Mattywags ain't your ordinary gift shop. It's for folks with a sense of humor and a desire to purchase all sorts of fun fripperies. By the way I didn't make that word up. Frippery was the word that the shop uses to describe themselves. It's a fun word to say. It means an unnecessary ornament in architecture, dress, or language. The shop is on Main Street in Historic Placerville, CA. The shop is filled with fun, frivolous fripperies that you didn't know you wanted. Just stop on in and take a gander.

On Saturday while exploring old town with my sweetheart I came across this small business and I gotta say it's probably my new favorite shop! They had a little children's section, a jewelry case, greeting cards, quirky socks, vintage decor, candles and even a fun little pet lover's section! This would be the perfect place to purchase gifts for anyone on your list and during the holidays I could definitely see it as a place for some fun stocking stuffers! Or something for yourself, it was hard to resist buying them out! I purchased a velcro insulated lunch sack since I was in need of one to pack my lunches for work, I brought it today and it works great! I just might have to return for their cute mini reusable bags for a party in the near future as well! Placerville is my favorite old town and I love cute shops like these, so I'll definitely be back! Debbie who was manning the fort was both personable and helpful and the store was nicely laid out! During this time we should shop small when we can, stop in and show your support!

A few funny items in here, but quite expensive.Also, the lady working just sat at the front counter... not welcoming, no greeting, nothing. I thought maybe it was just me, but same thing for the next couple that came in.

The man working behind the counter was so kind and helpful. I had a lot of fun during our conversation and the shop was lovely to browse. I was buying Christmas gifts for my family and friends and I found a lot of great gifts! Everything was reasonably priced and I loved the diversity of the shop stock. I will definitely be back here again! My best friend especially loved their novelty soaps.

If you're in downtown Placerville, this is a great gift shop to go into. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. Cage has a wonderful selection of products including vintage items mixed in with new gift items. Everything is well displayed. I loved that she had a nice selection of lotions/soaps etc for men. Definitely one of the best shops in Placerville!

Tops my list of Main Street stops for fun gifts, cute home ware and, notes, cards, books and more. I always see something new, funny, and super cute every time I visit. Go-to place for gift giving, for someone else or yourself!

I LOVE Mattywags! I always stop here when I'm in Placerville. There is so much to look at and always a new treasure to buy. This is a great place to find unique gifts for almost anyone!! My favorite are the little gnomes made by a local artist. I have 5 now!!!

I want to live in this store. Went here on a nice afternoon with my MIL and mom. So many cute gifts and stationery! I had to decide what to get so I didn't leave after spending $500. Not to say the pricing isn't completely reasonable--a rarity for many such "cute" shops. The owner was very nice and friendly, and helpful. She sure knew her stuff as well, when I asked about various items, including vintage goodies. The cards she sells are very artsy and hip--I found a lot of winners, including some that I just bought for wall decoration! All the displays are well-thought out and very cute as well.

What a rotten deal! I bought a purse for my daughter's birthday. She didn't care for it and the owner refused to exchange it for something she would like! It was still in the bag new with tags! Buyer beware!
