Trying out various taco trucks as potential wedding reception vendors, I was referred by several people to Masa Guisería. After about the fifth referral, I decided to look up their schedule and go give them a try. They happened to be at a brewery down the street from where I live so I went for dinner on a Thursday night. My fiancé was sick - so my foodie sidekick, my Dad, tagged along to try.We met chef Alex as he was pressing out some of the freshest, most delicious tasting tortillas I have ever had in my life. We placed our order to sample their tacos and patiently waited. I ordered one chicken tinga, one pork, and one Carne Asada. My Dad ordered two chicken tacos and one Carne Asada. After trying all three, which were all very tasty, we both agreed that the pork was the most tender and flavorful of the tacos we tried. My fiancé and I are super excited and looking forward to having Masa Guisería for our guests at our wedding reception.

I was really looking forward to these tacos that were catered for a work event. I was drawn to this taco truck because they hand-make their tortillas. You can definitely taste the fresh texture of the pressed and charred tortillas--super delicious! That's about all the good I have to say about Masa Guisería unfortunately. We had four options to choose from, and I tasted one of each: chicken tinga, pork chile verde, mushroom and potatoes, and black bean. The toppings (queso, salsa roja, avocado salsa, and crema) were self-serve and not part of the actual entrees. The tortillas were delicious but the fillings were just off in flavor. The only one I remotely liked was the mushroom and potato, and even that's a stretch. It tasted more like a stewed curry than tacos, even after heaps of salsa. It was yummy but just sloppy in presentation and texture. The other three, the meats and beans, were a complete fail. Way, way overly salted and no dimension in flavor. In the pork and chicken ones, I couldn't taste any spices other than salt. The pork was a little better than the chicken, but that itself was SO oily that I had pools of oil pouring out every time I went in to take a bite. Super unpleasant. The chicken was inedible. I've never NOT finished a taco before, but this was a first. I asked for an extra tortilla to cut the saltiness and they wouldn't accommodate. Usually street tacos have 2 layers of tortillas, so I don't think that was such an outrageous request, but okay...It also shocks me that something as simple as black beans could be messed up. Also extremely salty and almost sour in taste. I have nothing against vegetarian tacos (as made evident by my praise for the mushroom) but I really didn't enjoy this one. The service was friendly otherwise and quick. I think everything was pre-made, but they were able to keep up with the flow of demand. I'll dream about these handmade tortillas, but really hope they cut the salt on their meat fillings.EDIT: Changed my rating from two stars to one after I got an anonymous compliment from "Ron L" who appears to have specifically created his Yelp profile to tell me he wasn't a fan of mine!"You received free tacos and yet you complainI was there and i noticed you made no effort to address those issues to the server. When I [sic?] my tacos, (which were free) you didn't even ask for an extra tortilla. Stop putting out misinformation."I've never met this man. I'm guessing he's the owner if he was "there" even though I didn't specify my event location, date, or the employee I interacted with. I also never interacted with a server. And, it would have taken a lot of class to go up to the free taco truck that my employer was paying for and tell them it tasted bad. So I accepted my food, ate only what I liked (the mushroom tacos) and moved on.Not only is he accusing me of lying, which I have no reason to--the majority of my reviews on Yelp are 4 or 5 stars--but he's also insinuating I'm ungrateful for not giving his salty-ass tacos a glowing 5 stars LOLTo be clear, I am very thankful that my employer generously hired this taco truck to provide us with free food. My employer still paid, from department funds, to have these tacos catered--it's not like Masa donated them to us out of the goodness of their hearts. And even if they had, that does NOT change the fact that they were not tasty to me (everyone is entitled to their own opinion) or that Ron had to create a painfully obvious fake profile (made in December 2019, when my review went live on 12/5/19 with 0 reviews and 0 friends) to message me with the intention to intimidate rather than accept the critique graciously and attempt to do better next time. No, that would require a semblance of professionalism. Per FTC guidelines, receiving free products does not require the reviewer to submit a positive review. No business is entitled to a positive review either--they should earn it. It's shady that he would use that as a chip to my credibility. If I'd paid for these tacos, I would have still given them the same rating. Now knowing what the service truly is like and how resentful and tactless the people behind this company can be, I will no longer be supporting them. Stay away--if not because of the lackluster tacos, then so you don't have to deal with this kind of childish behavior.

MASA Guiseria has the taco art on lock. You've notice the quality of the handmade tortillas and braised or stewed meats. I've had the braised beef, chile verde, and tinga tacos at GATHER: Oak Park. Most of the time elote is sold out, but make sure to get that if you can. I've seen the truck at Track7 too. Recently I attended at wedding where the MASA crew's taco catering impressed everyone. There was even a vegetarian taco option and, yes ELOTE. I put alway 5 tacos, but you probably shouldn't because they are on the heartier side for street type tacos. Oh well, YOLO. Anyway, check MASA out. Peace.

Getting food trucked!!My coworkers shared big yummms all around. We all loved the thick, homemade tortillas. These were perfect for all the stewed meats, which were super juicy. The chicken tinga was delicious, and so was the green pork. My coworkers all got the tacos and their hands were all a mess. I got the quesadilla with chicken tinga... the Oaxca cheese was perfect in this. My hands were mostly clean, but hey this is the price you pay for deliciousness. For a quesadilla, it's smaller than most, but still pretty filling. Definitely would get again!

I thoroughly enjoyed the authenticly Mexican prepared tacos at a Masa held event at Triple Voodoo Brewery. Masa showcased their cooking talent and I was very impressed with three flavors. Their tortillas are also handmade, filling and made from corn. I ordered the chicken tinga, pork and steak poblano. All three were bursting with flavor. The steak flavor was extremely rich. I liked the flavor of the pork taco slightly more than the other two.Alex, the proprietor, doesn't skimp on the meat. They gave generous portions. I would certainly recommend Masa to taco lovers.

Masa has elote slathered in chile crema. Slathered so perfectly, in fact, that it does not fall off the elote as you are munching on it. Let that sink in for a moment, please. I mean, if you're having second thoughts on whether or not you should give in to your taste buds on that one, remember that corn is a vegetable and therefor good for you, meaning elote is a healthy snack. Please note Jenny P. is not a dietician, nor is she Mexican, a food critic, an expert, or even funny half the time. In addition to elote, they had handmade corn tacos (they're only the second place in the area that I've found that makes them this way. It's definitely not something every taco joint does, and you can taste the difference.) that came in chicken and chile verde when I came across the Masa Taco Tent last night at Bottle & Barlow during their "Sad as Fudge (only I didn't say fudge.) Sunday" event. There were also chips & guac and quesadillas on the menu.Let's check it out. Maybe Dr. Steve Brule likes tacos. You would be crazy NOT to like these. If you're lucky maybe the beautiful masa maiden will even be there to take your order.

Look out, Sacto food truck scene. There's a new kid in town and he serves up delicious new takes on classic Mexican cuisine. I've tracked them down twice now and am slowly coming to terms with my growing addiction for their freshly made tortillas, flavorful meats and creative combinations. My first experience with them was on a whim at the Concerts in the Park announcement ceremony. I tried their quesadilla and was excited to try more but had to leave. Well, I tracked them down again at Track 7 brewery. The chicharones in their fresh tortillas was to die for. The potato and soy chorizo tacos were tastier than real traditional chorizo. They had a steady line of customers but skillfully put out the food at a speedy pace. Before we knew it they were out of most of the good stuff, and I could understand why. Anythign you eat from this truck will be amazing. Really, just eat the tortilla and prepare to be wowed. 5-stars for this food truck!

Yesterday my daughter and I picked up a 3 taco plate each for dinner. I honestly was expecting some of your standard two bite street tacos that need to be drenched in salsa to add flavor. What we received was incredible. I asked to have the taco condiments put on the side as my daughter is still getting used to spicy. They were able to accommodate and did so in great fashion. On to the food. DELICIOUS!!! We got one each of the Chicken Tinga (OMG!), the Carne Asada (so tasty!!), and the Frijoles taco (this may be the first bean taco I have ever had, and it has inspired me and my daughter to learn how to cook beans). I so enjoy food trucks and giving my money to local businesses. They earned every penny. I will be back!

Out on a recent beer drinking outing we came across these wonderful folks at Flatland Brewing. We arrived as they were setting up and had a quick conversation on the way in to grab a beer. They were very friendly and gave us a quick rundown on what they did. It sounded like we were in for some solid tacos and we ended up with that and so much more. At first I was a little taken back at the price. Three tacos for $10.50 seemed steep. I confess I love tacos on the cheap like anyone else. Looking at the menu it was clear these weren't your average pedestrian mass produced tacos. We ordered up and headed back to our table when the nice young lady said she would be happy to bring our meals over to us when they were ready. In short order we had two taco trios to go with our tasty beers. They make their own tortillas and press them fresh to order. My first bite was the braised beef shoulder with pickled onions and fresh cilantro. I was expecting a flavor explosion, but it wasn't there, instead the savory goodness of a well braised meat, properly seasoned with judicious use of the pickled onion and cilantro totally wowed me into submission. The fresh tortilla was excellent in taste and texture and provided the perfect foundation. I could hardly wait to take my next bite. In short order that taco was polished off and it was on to the next one. The shredded chicken with chipotle and chorizo was another delicious taco. The avocado salsa and the queso fresco all married together in a way that once again, no component shined above another. A perfect balance of flavors. I was excited to get to the final taco, and again was very impressed. The Chili Verde was very nicely done. The dice was more fine than expected, which worked out exceptionally well for a taco. The tomatillos, onions and garlic wove to another excellent balance of flavors. The cool crema was a nice contrast to the filling. Not sure where the recipes come from, but they were all so delicious. It makes me wonder if they are recipes that were handed down and subsequently elevated just a bit. Whatever the back story, trifecta of amazing taco goodness for the win! I looked these folks up right away on social media. They are very active on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. The currently operate in a pop up tent but there truck is nearly complete. They know what a quality taco is all about and I could not be more excited to check them out again when the truck is rolling! Then again I may not be able to wait that long. I could not recommend their tacos any more highly. Do yourself a favor and get some soon!
