Manzanita Bakehouse

My bay area friend who recently moved to Sacramento was lamenting the lack of good bread. I attempted to stop in Davis on my way to visit her, but the two bakeries just didn't have anything up to par for this former food industry professional. I pulled over and started digging deep, researching anything that would satisfy her search for a good, crusty sourdough. Manzanita Bakehouse popped up, but alas, I could only order bread for the following Friday. Desperate, I called and texted, and a few minutes later, a text message popped up from the owner Greg, he could accommodate selling me a couple loaves! When I brought the loaves into my friend's house, first thing she did was take a big whiff of the loaves and sighed! We quickly cut into a loaf and knew from the sound, hefty weight and crunch as the bread knife made its way through, that this would be an exceptional loaf. The delicious crispy and chewy crust has a savory depth to it. The tender innards so pillowy and chewy with a bright sourdough flavor are so delicious slathered in butter, but can't wait to try making a slice of toast or sandwich with it! And did I mention the browned butter, chocolate chip cookies? We are saving those for dessert and will report back! So thankful that Greg is pursuing his passion and bringing real bread to Sacramento!

Bought at Pocket Farmers market last Saturday. Whole wheat Sourdough. Excellent. Took home, slathered with butter, or blueberry, or strawberry jam. So sour: prebiotic! Ate half the first day, and have been working on the remainder since. Unfortunately what's left is now a door stop hardness, but that is totally expected. Due to its authentic ingredients. Honestly, the only man I'm getting out of bed early for on a weekend. I never cared about sourdough until I tried his wares. All of the other vendors just can't come close on Sunday market days. If you aren't there by 9:30, you are out of luck! Try the co-op on Fridays for the limited selection, but Sunday farmers market is where it's at. 7/5 stars

A must support local small business in Sacramento ! His sourdough bread is fresh and comes in differ varieties! The chocolate chunks cookies was delicious especially popping it in the microwave for a gooey center!

This bread is insane. It's beautiful. And it is as delicious as it looks. You might think $12 for bread? I did. But I splurged. Then I realized...It's worth twice that. So so good. Thank you for baking this!!

Amazing fresh baked bread. I highly recommend stopping by whenever you have a chance.
