They provide a tour every hour and it is free! The building is beautiful and magnificent! It is a walking tour and no where to sit. They do have an elevator for accessibility. The history behind this building is amazing! We cannot take photos of the interior, but the furniture and the rooms are exquisite. Our tour guide was very informative and it was just me and someone else.If you are in the area, this is a great stop!

The Stanford Mansion is a very interesting location filled with Sacramento and California State history. The house is a great example of attention to detail in its architecture and gorgeous handmade wood carved details. There is beautiful artwork and furniture. I had a tour with a couple of friends this Fall when the house was decorated for Halloween as a haunted house. Our tour guide Margo was great. She was super knowledgeable and her energy was light and fun. She made the tour very engaging and everyone paid attention the entire time. This is important especially in today's age of short attention spans. It was clear that our tour guide took a lot of time researching and preparing the information she shared.I've been on many tours of historical places before, including a tour of the State Capitol. It's not easy to find a tour guide that is engaged and filled with energy. Frankly the State Capitol tour I had this summer in Sacramento was boring. The guide was a man whose voice was monotone and the information he shared seemed to be pulled out straight from the pamphlets. People were yawning, especially the kids. He never talked about the beautiful architecture and all the handmade details in the wood carvings and the gorgeous tiles in that building. He didn't have much information about the artwork in the building either. It's important to have tour guides like Margo, who go the extra step to provide a great experience for visitors. I highly recommend this tour and make sure to ask for her! Thanks and enjoy!

We attended the Halloween tour on Saturday evening. The mansion was decorated beautifully to match the spooky vibe. The tour started on time with the docent explaining the history of 150 years old mansion. Unfortunately, pictures and video are not allowed inside the beautiful mansion. The docent told spooky stories related to the mansion. The tour on the first floor started from the tea room then continued to the piano room, dining room, and final room with the wick coffin in it. All the rooms were decorated beautifully with light effects and skeletons posed accordingly. It wasn't too scary for us and the docent made some jokes to lightened up the mood. We only went to the orphan room on the 2nd floor and the docent shared some funny spooky story. The tour ended at the upstairs sun room. It lasted for about 15 minutes. I highly recommend to reserve the free tour.

What a fun little tour, stepping back in time, with a well informed tour guide named Eric. He was highly knowledgeable and entertaining. Unfortunately we're not allowed to take photos inside and there isn't a book for sale to help us remember the tour. Beautiful home, can hardly believe the craftsmanship for its time. Only disappointment was that it wasn't larger. Enjoy!

Walk ins are welcome but large groups of 10+ need to make a reservation, and it's free! Our docent Logan was awesome! Really cool guy and answered all of our questions!Even if you're not a big History fan, it was great learning about all the interesting facts about Stanford. Also inside the mansion is pretty cool. It's a bummer that you can't take pics inside to remember the awesome things we saw, I will just need to go back!

A nice addition to the many historical landmarks in downtown Sacramento. If it's your first time in the city, I recommend visiting the Capitol building and the Leland Stanford Mansion. Tours are free and docent led. No photography indoors but you can get some really nice pictures of the grounds especially at the double staircase outside. Tours are educational and a wonderful opportunity to learn about Leland's achievements and his family's impact on the state of California.
