A bright, beautiful gem recently celebrating its 20th anniversary as our local LGBT Archives and Cultural Center. I could easily spend hours in this 100% volunteer-run library located in the heart of the historic Lavender Heights neighbourhood in Midtown, Sacramento. It may look smaller from the outside but it's deceiving. Inside you'll find an impressive collection of works by LGBTQA authors, rental DVDs, and research materials. They have a couple shelves of items that are for sale when I come by on weekends, too. The folks who work here are friendly and helpful with information if you have a specific topic you're looking for. They sponsor and support community activism, outreach, and gatherings, such as the #StillHere Capitol March & Rally for Trans Justice, which I attended last Saturday with my dear friend and much of his family. There are also a variety of support groups to attend. This link will take you to the events page that lists them all:Community Groups: http://lavenderlibrary.com/events/community-groups/Website: http://lavenderlibrary.comCheck it out if you are ever in the area. Hours are as follows:Thurs: 4:30pm - 8pmFri: 4:30pm - 8pmSat: 12pm - 6pmSun: 12pm - 6pmParking: small lot, street metered, often spaces are available in the afternoon on O & 20th.

It's a rare city that has a private GLBT library. It's a rarer city still that has one as vibrant and active as this one.Run entirely by donations and volunteers, this place can't even fit a portion if their archive into their display space; what they put out can be fun, historically significant, sexy , or possibly the last volume known to exist. It's a treasure beyond belief, and I'm proud to call myself a regular patron and supporter from Waaay out of town . This place must continue- it's that unique.

This place is truly a blessing. We walked in on a whim having never visited before. We were greeted warmly by Trevor and Elena who educated us on LLACE, it's story, purpose, and how it operates. Then we saw a Sacramento Walking Tour of historical LGBTQIA sites was being offered for free every hour. Of course we joined! It was fantastic! Having lived in Sac forever and only now discovering this kind place with a warm heart I feel lucky. We joined the library, checked out some great hard-to-find films and books and even ended up donating a graphic novel, leaving with more info on all of the great events they host there, like LGBTQIA Open Mic Comedy Night!Well, it's clear they aim to be a sanctuary & safe haven. They even keep cold bottled water on hand for visitors who might need it when arriving in from the hot summer with no where else to go. Bless these folks for their existence and time and love they offer to Sacramento's community.

They have a brilliant collection of books, videos, periodicals etc.I attended a meeting there and it was welcoming and well laid out.The only downfall was the extremely drunk person that kept coming in, the facilitator had to lock the door. - does not impact the review or the experienceI recommend a visit to the Lavender Lib.
