Lake of the Pines (aka-LOP) is a PRIVATE GATED COMMUNITY 2000 custom built homes around a 233 Acre lake AND 19 Hole golf course in the beautiful Sierra's. You must be invited in by a member that lives here in order to partake in ALL it has to offer. We are fortunate enough to own a home here.

If you can, make sure you sit on the veranda. Sunday brunch out on the veranda is absolutely delightful. When you come for brunch they give you a complimentary glass of champagne or sparkling cider. I had the croissant club with potatoes which was delish! It was so peaceful sitting outside looking onto the lake. Service was also very good!I basically want to live here now. This is such a quaint little lake town. So peaceful to watch the ducklings and the paddle boarders go by. I will definitely be coming back here for a day out on the lake!

My buddy asked if I wanted to play here recently and to be honest with you I had no idea about the course. So needless to say I was I was in for a very challenging treat. His father in law lives there. So it is in a gated community so you have to play with the resident to get on the course. The lake that the course surrounds is beautiful. Everthing about this course was unique. Very rarely was there a straight look in to the pin. Either dog leg left or right, or shooting up hill when you cant see the flag or super high elevations. One shot was a 382 par 4 but you tee off from a couple hundred feet elevated. Felt like the ball hung in the air forever. Super cool. Tons of elevation changes. And TONS of deer everywhere and they don't give two shits about you while you are swininging away. Cool place that I am happy I got to play at.

What a challenging and fun course. It is a fine example of mountain golf. Unfortunately it is a private course so my opportunities have been few and far between in teeing it up here. Was able to snag a 2:10 tee time and got a twilight rate of $24 and it was a true bargain. Being private there was hardly any traffic and we were able to breeze through 18. The course plays 6140 from the tips but plays much harder than the yardage would indicate. There are a ton of dog legs and for the most part if you are not hitting uphill you are hitting downhill. A true mountain course. Also adding to the difficulty is the amount of blind approach shots that you must take. I found the course to be a nice challenge. The eighth hole is a blast. You tee off from the top of a ridge and you have a good 300 ft drop into the fairway and then your approach is into an elevated two tier green. Good stuf!!!If you enjoy golf and can snag a tee time you will be in for a treat.

**This review is for the residential aspect of LOP.**All these years of traveling back and forth to Nevada, always wondering why would a person want live in an area so isolated, undeveloped and rugged -man, was I WRONG!!! There is so much to Auburn then what you see off I-80, it's mind blowing!Lake of the Pines is a strictly enforced gated residential area with homes built as early as the 60's, to houses being built today, to amazing flips, as well as a country club with a golf course and lake. You need to know someone who lives there to be able to partake in the natural beauty. Deer roam the area, people watching. Residence always sharing a smile or wave, driving golf carts to get to A and B is the norm and the pure quiet of just being able to sit and watch a sunrise/sunset is why people move to this area. I GET IT!! It's truly like being on a mini getaway from the hustle and bustle of your everyday 9-5. We did not try the restaurant during our short stay but we did get to whack the heck out of some golf balls at the driving range. (Tip: $5 for 50 balls and you can use one of their clubs, they have an honor system.) Can't wait to come back...

Sports lounge atmosphere is nice however the food and service are greatly lacking. Most that frequent this establishment don't really have a better option as its inside the LOP and convenient. They need an overhaul.
