I really cannot recommend this location enough! I enrolled my boys when they were 7 and 5 a year and a half ago. Finally enough time has passed to leave an honest review. My 9 yo was behind 2 grade levels and my 7yo was behind 1 grade level in when we started Kumon due to Covid. As we started to get normalcy back from the pandemic, we looked into tutoring or enrichment centers so that we can get our boys back on track. My 9yo is now almost where he needs to be with his grade level (he has ADHD so seeing this growth is just amazing), whilst my 7 yo is on track to be above his grade level in both subjects. This is without a doubt a lot of commitment and dedication in partnership with staff. I am happy with the development of my boys. We started with just Reading for the 1st year and now have added Math to our boys' curriculum. Their concepts for beginning reading is based on phonics and understanding phonemes and graphemes then going straight into comprehension. Math is learning quick mental math to elevate math concepts of what your child's classroom is teaching. With that said, Kumon has enhanced my boys' experience in school within these subjects as they feel more confident among their peers. Miss Nibah and Miss Myriah have always been amazing to work with. Both will consistently communicate to me what support I can do to assist my boys in each level, goals they want to see my boys reach with an achievable timeframe, positive encouragement, and allowing me to be able to reach out at any given moment for additional support if needed. The rest of the staff are helpful to assist and very sweet and polite. I anticipate to keep them in until they outgrow this curriculum (through high school). We cannot thank you enough for all that you do here at Kumon in Natomas!

My kid is 8 and in third grade and has been excelling in school because of Kumon! The kid started Kumon when he was 3 because he wanted to read and preschool wasn't really teaching reading just yet for this age group and I'm no educator. Thankfully, Kumon was able to accommodate. At 4 years old we started the math portion of Kumon because he showed such an interest in basic arithmetic. Since then we've just been going. Thankfully even through COVID, which was helpful as there was no learning gap for the kid as he continued to work through reading and math while schools were closed or went online. Now that we've incorporated Kumon as part of his academic toolbox I do not have to worry about school. He's scoring 3 grade levels (6th grade) above his current grade level in reading. And he's scoring almost two grade levels (5th grade) in math! We literally call his school homework "silly homework". He is not struggling in school at all and can finish a week's worth of the silly homework in a day to focus on the Kumon work that's actually challenging. Disclaimer: this is hard work! Parent involvement is key!!!!! Kids receive homework everyday and parents should be involved with guiding, reviewing, and helping their child. It sucks! I'm struggling to remember how to multiply and divide fractions. Apparently it comes back to you! There were many tears in the beginning of Kumon, but now it's just something we do as part of our routine. I prefer the paper Kumon packets over the tablet work. It helps me with guiding and explaining to my kid what he got wrong, why, and what he should be looking out for. The tablet/app provides the work, the kid turns it in, but there's no feedback. Which if your kid is struggling you'd never know until they can't pass a test after multiple times. The kid has excelled so much and so quickly that I've had to slow him down bc I'm so scared he'll get too far ahead and forget. Instead of twice a week, we're only at Kumon once a week and I've requested to reduce his homework packets to also accommodate his sports schedule. Thankfully, Ms Mariah (my favorite Kumon instructor) has been with me every step of the way and has been incredibly helpful with how Kumon plays a role in our life.

Short Version: The Kumon center in Natomas is deceitful, a waste of money, and does very little to improve the learning and comprehension capabilities of a child. Unabridged Encyclopedia Version: I make it an effort to spend time on a weekly basis tutoring my partner's two children so they can excel in school and expand their knowledge beyond what their school can offer. The birth of our third child has been demanding, and has made it difficult for me spend the quality time the first two children need to succeed academically. We looked into an outside source to help keep the children challenged and engaged, but Kumon proved to be a costly mistake. The center itself is often crowded with a staff that is unqualified and often times outnumbered, making personal attention and the learning experience nonexistent. There is usually one instructor monitoring several desks full of children doing busy work. When a child has a question, as described by our two children's experience on multiple occasions, the "instructor" would simply give the child an answer with no explanation of how or why, and then instruct the child to continue with their work. There was also another person at the front desk that appeared young enough to be in high school. He appeared to be responsible for grading the children's work, and seemed to be a greater resource to the children for answers, than the supposed instructor. The students are taught math through repetition in their homework. They are given pamphlets to take home, answer, and have their parents score. When they arrive at Kumon for their next day of instruction, Kumon proceeds with the lesson plan based on how they performed on the homework. Unfortunately, the pathetic excuse of a lesson plan comes down to redoing the homework at the center if the child did poorly, or moving on to the next pamphlet of busy work. No actual instruction is given, simply answer the pamphlet and hope for the best. Once again, if the child had a question about a problem, the answer is given without explanation, and the child would be expected to simply move on. Children are expected to progress on their own efforts and abilities... but not really. The eldest child has very poor math and reasoning skills. He was having difficulty with multiple number subtractions, and naturally fared worst with word problems associated with them. The "instructor's" solution was to simply progress him to the next level and start him on multiplication. It was obvious in the many errors on his work pamphlets, lack of word problem comprehension, and likely poor test scores that the center "lost" and could not present, that the child was not ready to progress. Kumon is franchised out throughout North America and Canada. Naturally, I complained to the parent company after having little success seeking improvement from our local (lack-of) learning center. Several phone calls, email, false promises, and much inaction later, we decided to cancel the service. We followed proper cancellation procedures, but the company still billed us the two following months after cancellation. We have been reimbursed the funds thanks to some help from our Credit Union, but based on our experience it seemed like the center was trying to gauge us additional fees in hope we would not notice the charges. They did claim after all that they never received a cancellation notice even though we made them sign an acknowledgement of receipt after supposedly not receiving a cancellation after the first two times!

Our daughter is 3 and after more than a month here, she has learned a lot!She is recognizing words and reading phrases. I am sure some of it is memorization, but when words are mixed into new phrases, shes knows them too. Considering some of her play friends who are 6-8 months younger than her can barely even talk, I am impressed. They wouldn't take her for math, but I hope as my daughter learns numbers better, she will be able to take that on too.I think in a few months, she will be reading her own books! She gets one on one tutoring while she is there. You really have to keep up with the homework. The manager was very nice.

The benefits that I have received from Kumon are better than I expected. During the pandemic I was struggling with ELA in school so much and I was falling behind. My parents started looking for a solution and one of them was Kumon since they were familiar with the program. I started with low confidence of being successful but after some time I realized that I was improving quickly, my comprehension and vocabulary expended greatly to the point where I was above my grade level in ELA, and I was able to finish the reading program in 3 years. I highly recommend Kumon to any family looking to improve their child's success in school. Thank you Ms. Nibha and Ms. Mariah for all your help!

My child started Kumon at age 4. Within 4 months she was able to read K/1st grade level books. We took a break from Kumon to enroll her in preschool. After a a few months in preschool and not learning anything academic, we enrolled her back in Kumon for Math. Within 4 months she was adding numbers in her head and not using her fingers. She's 5 now and will be enrolled in Kindergarten in a few months. I know she will be confident and prepared when it comes to math and reading- all thanks to Kumon. I plan to enroll my younger daughter when she's old enough as well. I highly recommend patents with young children who want a strong foundation in math in reading to give Kumon a try. It's such a great investment in your child's education.

My daughters have been coming here for nearly 6 years! We have been so fortunate to have found this location. The owner and her staff are the most caring teachers, they always go above and beyond. They even help with my oldest daughters schoolwork when I don't understand it. I can tell you that there's no other Kumon that you'd be able to text after hours and they will be there to help. I don't believe my daughters would be so far as advanced as they are if it wasn't for them.
