If you are looking for the right martial arts studio, look no further! I found KSMY on Yelp actually. My son has been attending this studio for two years and believe me when I say that his confidence has grown. He always thought of himself as "not athletic" because he wasn't into what some consider more traditional sports. Joining this martial arts allowed him to understand his potential and he's learned so much both physically and mentally. Ma'am My is an absolute gem and she REALLY loves her students. I'm so grateful we found her and KSMY!

KSMY is a wonderful studio. I enrolled my daughter to start training via Zoom during the pandemic nearly 1 year ago per my neighbor's recommendation. We've been back in person for a couple months now and my little girl absolutely loves it. She's always excited to see Ma'am My, the owner/proprietor, who is truly a gem. Ma'am My is a master martial arts educator who provides precise feedback, but I particularly appreciate her excellent social-emotional skills--my daughter is a bit timid but has grown in her confidence in no small part due to ma'am My's care. She demands attention and respect but also makes the experience fun for kids, as she provides positive and uplifting feedback throughout the class. The culture in the studio is growth-oriented yet cheerful, and ma'am My is an exemplary leader and role model to my little one. My wife and I are very happy we found KSMY Martial Arts for our daughter.

You can go a lot of places for martial arts training, but what really sets KSMY apart is the instruction of Ma'am My. She has a gift for meeting people where they're at, whether young or old, very athletic and flexible or not so much. She is firm with her critiques but always encouraging and positive.One of the best things about KSMY and Ma'am My is the expectation of respect and care for the other students. This is not a confrontational martial arts school, and even in sparring the focus is foremost on learning from (not beating up or hurting) your opponent. Injuries, when they happen, are taken seriously, and Ma'am My modifies all the forms and techniques to accommodate injuries.If you're looking for a fun and empowering place to work out, or training in the martial arts that is respectful and positive, definitely check out KSMY!

When we moved from East Sac to Land Park a year ago, we were looking to find a new martial arts studio for our daughter. She had attended another studio that we weren't all that happy with. I'm SO glad we discovered KSMY. Not only are you treated like family, but their structured classes instill responsibility and having to earn their belt -- something that we found many studios are not very adherent to. I can't say enough great things about My Mora and KSMY.

KSMY is AMAZING and Madam My is REALLY WONDERFUL with kids & teens. Her commitment to her students, attention to detail, and level of excellence motivates her students to excel during training, as well as at school & home (she regularly checks in with parents). From the moment you join you become KSMY Family. We are SUPER excited about her new school opening in SAC, and this time the whole family is joining. I know she (and Sir Patrick) will make me laugh as she makes me work hard and sweat! Madam My is truly a Sacramento treasure :-)

KSMY Martial was tons of fun!I've have some martial arts experience in the past and I felt kind of neglected when it came to learning new forms and understanding what we were doing at my previous school. Last month I took a few trial lessons at KSMY and I think I found that positive and supportive atmosphere I've been looking for. My is very knowledgeable about all the forms and history of what she is teaching. Unlike my previous schools, My is very supportive and hands on that I feel comfortable to ask her anything! The lessons were fun yet challenging, fast paced for us adults, and My really made us feel great. Finally the nice thing about KSMY is that it is in a convenient local near my work! My wife and I are super excited to start regular lessons after the New Year!So in conclusion, I would recommend KSMY Martial Arts to anyone who wants to have fun, get a workout, and learn traditional martial arts from someone whose been teaching and practicing for years!

KSMY has now earned 6 stars!!! Just read the one star review. I knew right away who it was from, even being from "Annoymous N". Everyone who's been lucky enough to experience these parents and their out of control children can start enjoying sessions without having such disrespectful people in close proximity. Thank you Ma'am My for finally letting that family go!!Sitting there watching Ma'am My have to pause her lesson to her students and basically babysit this parent and sibling was absolutely pathetic. Ohhh, so relieved. Now a little review for KSMY... Just read all the other reviews, spot on. Ma'am My is what makes this place so special. Its not the waiting area, clean bathroom, or Home Depot sized parking lot. Ma'am My has skills you have never seen before. She will have your child learning respect and discipline from the minute they learn to bow before stepping on the mat.My daughter would sometimes say "nah"...that only happened once in class. Ma'am My quickly tought her, it is "No Ma'am or Yes Ma'am". It was magic! I can't say enough good things about KSMY and the positive things I have seen in my daughter after a couple months of training. It is very clear that Ma'am My's heart and soul are poured into this wonderful facility. Very hard to find such a kind loving, gentle, powerful and respectful mentor these days. What a gem.

KSMY does provide superior instruction in Hapkido. What they also provide is a safe, supportive and encouraging environment to learn. From the first introduction to class, kids and families are welcomed. Every adult interacts with the kids and each other in a respectful and kind manner. There is a palpable level of respect and caring when you enter their space.

Where the heck is the 10-stars button when you need it, Yelp??When I first moved to Sacramento by myself in August, I knew I wanted to get back to martial arts and needed the right school to coax me out of my hermit ways. After calling several schools in the area, I was immediately taken by Ma'am My's enthusiasm and warmth. What's more, she's a strong woman of color in a sport that tends to be male-dominated, which impressed me even more. She allows new students to take a trial class to see how they'll like it, and I was hooked after that first class. The other students are just as friendly, and it felt like being welcomed into a family.Fast forward to over six months later, and I couldn't imagine being anywhere else. The adult classes are the right blend of fun, welcoming, and challenging. If you're looking for a dojang that enhances your physical and mental well-being, this is it. Aside from learning forms and techniques, one is reminded of the value of hard work, self-care, teamwork, and discipline. Her weekly body conditioning classes are no different. Hubs drives up from San Jose as often as he can just to attend these classes, and they're worth it!Ma'am My goes above and beyond for the school. The waiting area has books/games, snacks, and water that she provides out of the kindness of her heart. Promotions occur every few months, and she also organizes family events to encourage the students and their families to bond and get to know each other. On an individual level, she also remembers each student and their challenges; I've had her text me when I've had job interviews just to wish me luck and ask how it went! I've seen students come out of their shells under her wing. These are not things one would expect from a martial arts instructor, but she has an amazing tendency to bring out the best in people.To speak to the children's classes: As a soon-to-be licensed psychologist who's worked with kids and families for over seven years now, I can see that Ma'am My's teaching style and class structure is top-notch. Her classes are age-appropriate in pacing, level of difficulty, and structure. She praises students when they deserve it, challenges them when they can be better, and disciplines promptly and fairly. Kids are in school 30 hours a week, in martial arts 3-6 hours a week, and at home for the majority of the rest of the time. As much as someone learns from martial arts, it is not a magic solution to "fix" anyone. Teaching respect and discipline begins at home; all other settings are meant to reinforce the structure. To more specifically address the 1-star review: Others have already pointed out some of the flaws in the review's reasoning. I will add, it's mighty suspicious when you have an "anonymous" account that seems to only produce 1-star reviews. Just sayin'.

Our daughter started with KSMY in September, and she absolutely loves Ma'am My, Kuk Sool and all the KSMY students and family members. Our daughter has worked hard, g her first promotion this past weekend, and we could not be more proud.KSMY is one of THE BEST martial arts schools I have ever seen, hands down. In my 20+ years of experience with friends in Kempo Karate, myself in two schools for Taekwando, and others visited, KSMY instills the discipline, respect, hard work, encouragement and last but not least the LOVE and CARE by Ma'am My to our children and students. You just CANNOT grasp this until you visit KSMY in person. Do not let one Anonymous bad review dissuade you from your interest in KSMY. Respect and trust can only be earned and mutual when all parties involved give their full attention and support.
