Raising a child has so many benefits, one being that they challenge you as a parent to retreat from becoming too comfortable and doing what you deem to be "safe." A perfect example of this is my son's recent request to go skating to celebrate his 12th birthday. As a child I absolutely loved skating, so much so that every other week my mom would take my sister and I to the now defunct Cal Skate that was located in South Sacramento. As I became an adult with a career, I stopped skating out of fear of injuring myself. However, when I saw the excitement in my son's eyes when we confirmed our plans to visit King's Skate Country, I dusted off my skates in anticipation.Prior to visiting the skating rink, I called to confirm their hours. A very friendly and patient employee explained to me that the skate times are as follows on Saturdays: 10:30 am 1:00 pm, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, and 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Since I called at 2:15 pm (45 minutes prior to the end of the second session), we opted to participate in the third and last session at 3 pm. Upon arriving at the establishment, we were very fortunate to find a parking spot as second session customers vacated the premises. The parking lot is very small; therefore, if you may have to wait quite awhile to secure skating rink parking or park near one of the surrounding businesses.Upon entry we were greeted by a friendly cashier who processed our payment for three admission tickets and two pairs of skates (I brought my skates from home). After lacing up our skates, we put our shoes in a locker (lockers are 50 cents- don't forget to bring change) and proceeded to hit the rink floor. Since the size of the rink is fairly small (something that I saw mentioned in a lot of the other Yelp reviews), it does feel fairly congested when busy. However, I didn't see this as a negative. I feel like the smaller size made for an intimate skating experience that encouraged patrons to interact with other patrons (community).Although two hours doesn't sound like a ton of time, I found it to be appropriate. It was just enough time for my wife and I to work through the rust (it had been almost 10 years since we last skated) and eventually get our skate on a la the movie "ATL." My son had a great time skating and like me couldn't hide his excitement. To break up the routine, every so often the DJ/event facilitator would organize participants for a game (i.e., Limbo, Four Corners, Red Light/Green Light). The music here is REALLY good; so good that I often got so lost in it that all worries of falling subsided as I grooved to the beats! If you're looking to disconnect from screens, have some fun, and burn some calories (I burned 471 calories) I recommend visiting King's Skate Country!

We were invited here for a child's birthday, the place is old, but kept very clean and organized. They have a mini arcade and food. The music was fun and they provided games for all the roller skaters. This place was a great a place to bring our kids with no experience skating. We felt very welcomed the staff were friendly and helpful. We can't wait to come back with more skills.

King's Skate Country has been an amazing place for adults and children for decades. My grandparents moved to Elk Grove in 1986, and I remember beginning to go to the rink shortly thereafter. Parking is typically fairly easy to find in their lot or on the street. Prices are fair for admission and the snack bar. Employees are friendly, and there's great vibes here. The snack bar serves typical skating rink fair, candy, chips, nachos, pizza, and fountain drinks. They also have a few vending machines if you're impatient. We've also attended a birthday party here and it was very well managed. The skating rink is pretty clean and well maintained given its age. It's wonderful to see it thriving decades later, and we hope it's successful for years to come.

Great place for family fun, definitely brings back memories growing up spending the entire weekend at the skating rink. Both skating and snack bar are reasonably priced.

Very old school roller rink, definitely needs an upgrade. Came here for my niece's bday party and boy was it packed and a hassle to get her party ready! My sister reserved the party package and we were 15 min early before our reserved time. As soon at it was our window time they didn't even have the tables ready. A previous party was still sitting there and the area wasn't cleaned. So pretty much delayed the party while we had guest waiting to place their items down to go skating. We requested to give extra time in our reservation for this inconvenience and they couldn't allow since there would be a private event after our time. So that was frustrating! Not only that, but the place for sitting or party area is super congested, small and crowded. Not sure for pricing per person as this was a party, but I know $3 extra to upgrade to roller blades. The roller rink is ok, I've been to larger ones.Parking is horrible when it's packed, you have to end up parking on the side of the road.

Hours online says it's open but when I pulled into the parking lot it was empty. Should do a better job advertising their times online.

The skates they have for rent are as old as the establishment themselves. The materials on the shoe are flimsy and the thread on the shoe laces are all disconnected. The floor is more slippery than other skating rinks and there are no handle bars for those that need extra support. Putting your hands against the wall doesn't seems to be the best thing to do for beginners especially if the wall is carpeted. There's literally no grip. They do not have the walker that assists beginners, due to some reasonings I did not understand. The pizza slices are small; 2 bites and you're done. Parking lots is also small and in the main road, where it's dangerous to back into. The only reason I gave it two stars is because of the low prices. Definitely one of the cheapest prices on Sundays.

I came here for a birthday, the interior was okay, everything was okay, but two problems, 1: the vending machines only accept QUARTERS and I usually don't have those on hand. 2: They don't have walkers. You would think they would have them because they have been up for 75 years, and they would profit a lot.

If I could give zero stars I would! We went on Saturday to take my daughter and her girlfriend on a date and my daughter is new to skating(I personally am not) and I had to put skates on because they would not let me walk on in socks to help her.the floor is so uneven and messed up there are dips and uneven spots that even an experienced skater can and will fall.ive been skating since I was a kid at the rink(off Bradshaw) I got on the floor towards the arcade because they wouldn't just let me walk 10 feet in socks to the arcade area where she was stuck I had to put skates on and skate the whole floor to get her and I hit a major dip and went on my butt and BROKE MY TAILBONE!!!this establishment needs some major updates and recovery because not only are the floors crap their pizza tastes like it was microwaved and it was pouring grease off it will never go back again
