One of our daughters was attacked at her job so our family decided to gift her some self defense (and fitness) lessons. I reached out to sensei Chris to see if he could help. Sensei Chris could not have been more helpful and sensitive to her issue. He provided us with a plan, we purchased a gift package for our daughter, and she attended her first lesson this week.Wow! Was she ever thankful. The workout was hard, I mean really hard, but sensei Chris and the entire staff and patrons there made her feel comfortable and like she was part of a team. When she was struggling, everyone, even strangers there, were more than willing to help.Thank you sensei Chris. Our daughter is learning so much and building her confidence along the way! I highly recommend King Krav Maga & fitness!

I'm relatively new to any sort of martial arts. The trainers are very welcoming and skillful. The students are also welcoming and respectful. I felt safe but also felt challenged and pushed to learn and give my all for a phenomenal workout. Family vibes and kid friendly.

I am so very grateful for Sensei Chris and Angel! They have encouraged my son from day one to be his best. Sensei Chris will motivate, pay attention to, encourage and support your kids to bringing the right energy and attitude. The program for kids is amazing to say the least. The discipline, vibe, strength and conditioning fits all ages and doesn't matter if you're athletic or not. Definitely promotes self confidence, sense of accomplishment, working as a team, balancing between setting and meeting goals and having fun and being a kid. It has made a very positive impact on my son who is only 4, but needed a positive outlet, a place to let out all the energy he needs to burn, focus and pay attention and be exposed to older kids as well.I honestly wish I'd found this gem sooner but glad we are here now! GET YOUR KIDS OFF THE SCREEN AND GET IN HERE, You'll be SO glad you did.

I just started training at KKM after spending a couple of years on and off at another Krav Maga class. I signed up immediately after my first class. Sensei Chris's classes are like taking guitar lessons, you can practice for years on a mid-range Epiphone, but you really don't know what you've been missing until you pick up your first Fender Strat. KKM is the Stratocaster of Sacramento Krav Maga. The classes are mixed-level, and there is a dynamic element to the class in that everyone is working at their own level. My previous studio separated the classes by level, and after moving up in rank I discovered that my lower level skills had gone stale and whenever I popped in to work on them I was completely lost. After moving up to the third level at the last studio I was still woefully unprepared for a real-world confrontation and only had a false sense of security. I picked up bad habits that were never corrected. When I signed up I was provided with a KKM shirt...with a white patch, which is deserved. I have a lot of work to dSensei Chris has his head on a swivel for one-on-one guidance and you are never standing around waiting to be told what do do next. All levels classes mean that you are acquiring new skills while keeping old ones from getting stale. It is the perfect balance of chaos and order. I am fine-tuning the bad habits I've picked while at the same time not being babied. This class is intense, you are completely wrung out at the end of each session. OSS!

This review is specific to the Kid Tuff program run by this gym, and it is AMAZING. I've been bringing my daughters to the Kid Tuff classes since early December. This program is great! I was worried about karate and tae kwon do, which I had checked out. While they loved the classes (at bday parties, open days), I was very concerned about the cost (of uniforms, classes and potential costs for tournaments) and the focus on discipline. My girls are athletic and on other teams where discipline is important and cost is high. What I wanted? Were for my kids to be able to shock the hell out of a would-be kidnapper or bully by suddenly throwing a hard punch, possibly biting and causing serious damage, and being able to run a quick mile to get away and find help. And THAT is what I'm getting. There ain't no "art" in this martial. My 12 year old is faster than most of the teenagers and can drop flat and pop back up in less than a second and can also now punch ridiculously hard. My 6 y.o. can kick groins, throw some hard hammerblows, and then run a mile in about 10 minutes. The Kid Tuff program is a loose group, kids show up on MW evening and on Sat/Sun morning with parents (parents can work out too and help with the class, older kids get some leadership experience in leading stretching and helping get the younger kids worked out). Chris meets with the group, runs through some tough calisthenics and hard core training, and then often does a training exercise in perception usually (he will go outside and lurk while the kids run a mile around the building, and their task is to see him---even when they are getting tired, even when they are being passed by other kids---they need to make eye contact so that he knows he's been "seen", they get used to looking around themselves and being aware.) Also during these runs, they may have some stations where they kick and punch pads. Chris is CONSTANTLY calling out drills and the kids will stand at attention to hear the next direction. He's also very kind. Once, a dad yelled at his son because one of my "girls" was beating him, and Chris called out that girls can be just as tough and just as powerful speed-wise. It was nice to hear an MMA fighter talking about girl power and physicality! (Also, my daughter was dusting the other kid. Proof is in the pudding.) Yes, your kid could get injured (jammed finger, fall hard on mats and get abrasion, bump head, glove hits eye---my girls have had all of these happen) but safety, proper stance, all of this is focused on so that muscles are trained and core is very strong.Later in the hour, the class focuses on hitting and kicking and strength training, as well as coaching for danger. Example: hammer punch, straight kick combo with a sprawl. Usually there are many "stations" where the kids rotate and the parents get involved with this. Lots of drills to improve muscle memory. Lots of safety concepts introduced and body awareness (for example, executing break falls, knowing where to position hands at head/temple level before throwing punch, using the voice to call out warnings to would be "bullies" and attackers, and mirroring an attacker's moves and anticipating their next one.) One of the drills I was MOST impressed with needs a trigger warning: the dads and older brothers hold the strike pads and hunker over a kid (for example, my 6 y.o. daughter) who is on their back. Like a dog pile. When Chris calls time, the kid must kick and punch to escape with people grabbing and blocking. It would be scary if it wasn't in such a safe environment (I would probably have a panic attack.) But it is the idea of strangers holding you down and fighting through them to get away that is being demo'd. Where to strike (on the pads, which are held in front of chests, groins, and faces), how to aim a kick and push off, and how to find a way out. It's not always going to work, but it helps stave off panic if trained gently. Do I think someone will attack my kids? I hope not. But if someone does try, that person will get QUITE the surprise. A pretty good one, too.Things that make me happy: 1) watching my 12 y.o. 74 # daughter fight her way across a gym mat throwing punches that knock back large dads. 2) seeing my 6 y.o. daughter complete 10 perfectly executed military push ups like a frickin' marine. Makes me want to cry, as I'm the most non-athletic person I know.Yes, this is Krav Maga, essential basic moves for kids. Yes, the gym is smaller. Yes, the gym smells like weed (but that's legal now, fyi, and people use it medicinally.) Yes, the instructor is great with kids.

KKM is a great place to get physically and mentally tougher. I've been training here for a few years. The program meets you at your level while stretching you more and more for greater growth of skills and toughness. When you can take a hit and keep thinking straight while defending yourself...it's a great feeling. Chris is a great instructor who gives you real time sparring and technique experience.

I have been coming for 7 months now. It has changed my life. I have lost weight and gained muscle. There is a great group of people that help each other learn, practice and get in better shape. I have learned skills I hope to never have to use, but in the process developed a real sense of confidence. Sensei, Chris, really knows what he is doing and what his students are capable of doing. I can't praise this place enough!
