Kaido is our go-to spot for sushi between Nevada City and Grass Valley. As a third-generation Angeleno who moved to Nevada City a few years ago--and a self-proclaimed sushi snob--I know good sushi! While I understand why people love 'Sushi On The Raw' (it's great too), if you're looking for quality sushi without breaking the bank, Kaido is the spot. Chef Kazuhiko's sushi is traditional, with generous cuts of fresh, delicious fish. If I'm in the mood for a little more fusion or a wider range of fish options, I might go to Raw occasionally, but Kaido is truly a hidden gem, especially for Grass Valley.I highly recommend their toro cuts--whether it's salmon, hamachi, or albacore. The hand rolls are also generously portioned, and the Ikageso appetizer (deep-fried squid legs) is a standout with its curry and red pepper salts. As for rolls, I love the Rays, Bali-hi, and Sunset Dream. Even their miso soup, made fresh in-house, is something special!

I know that this is a well respected restaurant for lovers of raw fish so I bow to their reviews. I sorta like raw fish but , gasp, I really wanted a Bento Box...the horrors! We were invited to dine here but it wouldn't have been our first choice because of the limited menu.Did I say "limited"? You bet!! So while the server was lovely and the clientele was top shelf, I think I'll skip returning because I don't love it.

Great, attentive service, great sushi. Kaido offers a full sushi menu and service that makes you feel welcome. There's some other options around but Kaido nails it. Thank you!

We've been eating at Kaido's in Grass Valley CA for about 10 years and enjoy it very much. The waitress(s) are fun and provide some of the best service. Kos & Kaoru are the most humble and caring owners you will ever meet. We went on a 7500 mile vacation this year up North into Alaska and decided to eat Sushi out as often as possible, some of the cities were Sun Valley ID, Missoula MT, Whitehorse Yukon (twice), and Prince George BC. The flavor of the different dishes are sometimes hard to compare, but we found Kadio's Sushi Rolls and Tempura to be the best. The Miso soup was fairly easy to compare and our favorite is still at Kaidos. If you like Japanese food, then give Kaidos a try your next time out. Vic & Joy

Food was really tasty and good quality. A bit on the small serving sizes such as the seaweed salad and the tempura but so good and tasty. Service was good - friendly staff. Yes would recommend if wanting sushi and Japanese food if in the grass Valley area.

Tried this place twice now, and I will say I am not impressed. Service was fine, but food was mediocre both times. Their rolls are nothing to be exited about and their fish does not seem to be too fresh. Ambience is nice. Will not be going here again.

I love this place. I want it to stay small and quant so I don't want to say too much! Anything fried is masterful. We go often for Ikageso.
