Food is good, though I feel it used to be better and more portion size wise. Managers, servers and bar tenders aren't as snooty as they used to be. Big plus. Cocktails are top notch! Always always so good. Happy to support this place and I bring folks from out of town here which they seem to enjoy.

Had friends visiting from out of town - H&L allowed us to make a reservation for a larger party on a Saturday night. I haven't visited in a few years, but remembered the food being pretty good. Fun ambience/decor, could see this being fun for a date night. They do seasonal menus, so we ordered off the winter menu. Fair selection of food, we tried the Pauly Pizza, carrots, brick chicken and ricotta dip. Friends ordered the burger - a little disappointed that they said it's a pre-made patty so you can't order it medium/rare/well etc considering the price they were charging and how they were advertised as a "farm to table" restaurant. The real pitfall of our experience was the service. Server wasn't rude, but was no where to be found. Our entire table needed drink refills, and we had to flag our server to ask for more water/sodas. Long wait for the food and the check, which I get it the kitchen gets busy but no one checked in on us or updated us. Honestly a bummer - this type of restaurant is usually my vibe, I just feel there are so many other places in Sac that offer better food and service for the same price and ambience

Well.... Such a disappointment. WARNING. Do not order the $60 NY steak. It comes out on a scorching hot plate, but room temperature. The steak was coldddddd as were the potatoes. How?!!? Okay. We had to flag down the bartender 10 minutes later who was not attending patrons fully because they were just too busy Sent it back. She graciously apologized. Great. Ok. Good. The steak came back out five minutes later same situation room temperature not hot at all like it had been left out overnight. Our server again ignored us for 20 minutes. Never checked to see how things were. I did not eat the second steak. They didn't comp us. The plate of food sat uneaten Didn't offer us a to go box. Obviously it's gross. However. Clearly there is an issue!!! She told me we were gracious and gave us a $10 discount for our inconvenience. Like what kind of service how awful. Of course I was gracious. I was ignored all night. She never came around to see how the food was or attend to us. don't come here. A manager never checked on us and never made sure we were OK. There are far better places for the cost. We never got our waters refilled. We never got asked if we wanted additional drink. We didn't get asked if everything was OK, if we needed anything extra. We didn't even get our check we had to ask for that. We didn't even get offered dessert. We were so nice about the whole thing. We couldn't even complain at all because the server was nowhere to be found/ not attentive.

Dine Downtown 2025. $45 per person: First course (amuse bouche) was a parmesan arancini. Second course was choice of either kabocha squash soup, tempura cauliflower, or prosciutto cheese/olives/sourdough plate. Third course was choice of salmon, cavetelli, or pork loin. Optional wine pairing was additional cost. In the past the three courses included a dessert, which I did miss.We also shared an order of the grilled Nantes carrots small plate to start. The arancini was great, too bad you only got one each. For second course I got the kabocha squash soup which was very good! My main was the pan roasted salmon, which came with beluga lentils, root vegetables and mustard greens. The skin and salmon were pretty salty, but I managed. The veggie accompaniments were much better, saved the dish. The prosciutto was just okay, the pasta was great, the pork loin a letdown according to the rest of my party. We had reservations but were seated in the back patio. The heaters were either too hot or ineffective against the January cold. The server was good/present up until the third course. They mistakenly brought a tempura cauliflower when prosciutto was ordered. One salmon dish was sent back for being too salty, and replaced with pork loin, but no good. As for the wine pairing, there should have been a choice but my party had to ask. The main dishes took forever to come out, the server disappeared, and overall didn't feel happy/satisfied with my $45+ spent for such an experience. Also, there's also a 3% Kitchen Equity Share added to all checks. Can't do separate checks but they do take up to 3 forms of payment.

Found this cozy spot located in Midtown. I really wanted to place for tots and they had them lol. Those were the first things we ordered and I thought they lacked flavor and were pretty plain. The also ordered the kale Caesar to start, and I loved loved it! Packed with flavor, light, and absolutely delicious. We asked the waiter for what they recommend and they explained that the brick chicken was a fav. So I decided to get that, the crispy chicken sandwich, and we also tried to fish of the day. I would personally pass on the brick chicken. It was very heavy and dry. Lacked flavor besides the sauces, and just a little disappointing. However the crispy chicken sandwich was a SMASH! I would come back for this! The seafood of the day was also pretty good, but too much beans (my guest really had to use the bathroom the next day). Service was great!

This place is a great little spot in Downtown Sacramento. They have lots of indoor seating for various size groups as well as front and back patio outdoor seating areas. I went here for brunch with a group of 9 ladies and the food and service were wonderful. Our waitress and the food staff were very attentive to our table and checked back to see if we needed anything. The food was yummy and I would definitely recommend this place. I will be telling my friends and hope to come back again soon!

The is return trip #3 for us. We really enjoy the burger. Good meat, cooked the way you want. Just a good solid burger!! Tonight I have an old fashion. It's been a little while since I had a drink, but tonight it is deserved. Our first seat was next to the door, but it's winter, so it's cold. Immediately asked to be move and of course the accommodated. Actually it's was a better table. Tonight food review to follow...Ok, I'm back! The burger was excellent as always. It's just the safest thing to have for me. Don't get me wrong, the other dishes I've seen all looked great, and I encourage you to try them. The business is clean and trust they will do a great job. About $35 per person with everything. One of our favorite spots. Good job Hook & Ladder!

First time customer. I ordered the garlic shrimp & tater tots. Absolutely delicious! The cube-shaped tater tots were perfectly seasoned & crunchy. I was pleasantly surprised at how many shrimp came with the small plate. There's bench seating & tables. My waiter wasn't super attentive but I was chatting with ppl at my table, so it didn't bother me...this time. I'll definitely go back.

This is me & my friend's usual go-to restaurant when we're on a night out to go to a concert at GoldenOne. You HAVE to order the garlic shrimp appetizer that comes in a sizzling pan with two slices of bread for dipping - it's the best app on the menu. As for the main, I tried the fried chicken sandwich & it was alright. Slaw isn't my thing but the sandwich on its own was good - my friend said the sandwich as a whole (with slaw & pickles) really complimented each other taste wise. Inside the restaurant, it has a cool feel to it & can get a little loud when the bar gets packed. As for the service, it is a bit on the slow side, as it has been consistently every time we come, but the food makes up for it. I'll definitely be back again for dinner!

Vegan rueben was absolutely fantastic. They really know how to make veggie options just as amazing as meaty food. I might not ever stop dreaming of the vegan rueben. I mean there was so much flavor without it being overwhelming. Heck yeah
