My family and I always loved the Elk Grove location so we're very happy there's one in downtown Sacramento.Similar to the other location, the restaurant is not very large inside and not good for big parties but at the downtown location there is outdoor seating. I was a little confused about how to order when we got there because a server didn't come to the table at first and there is a cashier right next to where we sat so once we informed them we were ready they gave us menus and then a server came over. But they were nice just also very busy. Our food ratings:green beans: 5/5garlic noodles: 5/5general chicken: 5/5

Good ambiance and food. I love the interior, and the service was very quick! The only thing I was a little annoyed by was the fact that the pricing for the weekends seems to be more expensive, as in, you cannot get a combination plate on a weekend. The lunch and dinner combination is only available for the weekdays. It left me feeling a little scammed for paying $15 dollars for the Mongolian beef plate, with an extra $2-3 for a side of plain white rice. It doesn't make much sense to me, but I know rent is higher downtown, so they probably make more on the weekends to keep it afloat. The food was flavorful, but lacked seasoning and was a bit oily (as expected for Mongolian beef though!). Overall, will probably be returning with other people so we can pick off of each others plates, instead of just ordering for myself. Thank you!

You know, even though their name is Hidden Dumpling, they're hardly a secret given how I've never seen this place lacking for customers. Granted, the first time I drove by here, I wasn't actually able to see their signage nor could I figure out what kind of restaurant this was, but I definitely bookmarked them as soon as I did. I mean, how could I not? In general, I can't ever say "no" to dumplings, so I wasn't about to start after seeing how popular Hidden Dumplings seems to be!Now, I have to say - between the pretty murals on the walls outside and the color scheme and overall decor, I really like the look of this place (plus, you can even see into the kitchen!). As for the menu, their range of offerings is almost just as impressive. While it's not as extensive as the menus at some of the mom-and-pop restaurants I frequent in SF, but it's got a solid array to choose from - soups, small plates, entrees, noodle dishes, fried rice, and, of course, various types of dumplings. It's pretty cool how they also have an option to create your own combo plate (comes with rice, fried rice, and/or chow mein depending on whether you're here for lunch/dinner), but it's availability is mostly limited to weekdays.-- BEEF ROLL...$14.99I can see why folks might like this, but I thought it was just okay. On the one hand, the roll was pretty fat and there was a fair amount of beef in it. On the other, it was loosely rolled, a couple of slices of the beef were a little tough, and the skin/wrap was really oily and not browned.-- GARLIC EGGPLANT with Bamboo Shoots, Fungus, and Jalapeno...$14.99This wasn't bad, but I can't say I loved the dish either. The portion was super generous and the eggplants tasted bright and fresh. That being said, between the chili/sambal sauce and the jalapenos, the "spice" element to this dish overpowered everything else.-- PORK & CABBAGE DUMPLINGS (10 Pieces)...$13.99Pretty solid for the most part. Each dumpling was pretty big/pump, the filling had a decent meatiness to it, and I liked that the skins weren't too thick. At the same time, though, while they tasted good, the flavors were closer to standard than spectacular. As far as service goes, our server (the owner/manager?) was really really nice and I loved that the food came out of the kitchen so quickly. Even still, I can't say I was particularly blow away by our experience. Granted, their namesake offering was the best thing we had and this is based on just a handful of items (I would've loved to have tried more of their dumplings and a couple of their noodle dishes sounded really good). It's just that, all together, I'd be lying if I said the experience was uniquely different from most other places I've tried, though, I wouldn't be surprised if this would've been higher if we tried more.THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded down.

Ordered two things for lunch and was not over welmed by my order. The garlic noodles were okay but a little thick for me, the garlic sauce could of been more over the top, but it was average, the amount of noodles were very generous. The Xiao Long Bao (8) soup dumplings were not very good. THe soup within the pouch was boring and had an off flavor - for a signature dish it was disappointing.Xiao Long Bao (8 pcs). I will be back next time to try some other dishes.

Solid dumpling house! In addition to yummy dumplings, they have something for everyone. You won't be disappointed with this spot, whether you're looking for noodle soup or more traditional Chinese fare. I also really loved the pork noodle soup!

I love coming here for the honey walnut shrimp. I usually order pork fried rice and soup dumplings as well. Just know this is a very small space so when it's busy expect a wait. I do wish the waitlist method was a little more organized. We put our name and number on the list but watched other groups that were the same size as us get called ahead even though we were there first. Luckily the host recognized it after we brought it up and sat us down right after.

Stopped by to get some soup on a cold night. Wait was about 30 minutes but for the size of the place and amount of tables, it went by fast. Once sat service was great. Drinks brought out right away. Kids water served in a cute to go boba cup. Kids were also given a picture with some crayons to keep them busy coloring. Hot & Sour soup is a must try if you like spicy & heat. Loved it. Also ordered some general chicken, garlic noodles, and an order of Xiao Long Bao. General chicken came out hot each piece of chicken a good bite size. A little spicy but not too bad. Didn't really care for the flavor though. Garlic noodles could've been a little more softer and have more flavor. Didn't eat too much of them after first bite. The Bao's were good and came out Hot and tasted great with the dipping sauce. Restaurant & Restrooms were clean and overall well kept up for the small location.

I felt like a lot of the dishes were overly salty. The Singapore rice noodles and XLBs especially. The meat in the XLB was kind of weird. I think they use the same dumpling filling for it and the texture and taste was really off so we were kind of disappointed. The Singapore noodles tasted decent but pretty salty as well. The salt and pepper tofu and eggplant was probably the best dishes. The beef noodle soup is a tomato base. Felt like a lot of the dishes were too Americanized perhaps. Unfortunately, don't think we'll be coming back but seems like they do well and I hope it works out for them.
