So, we haven't been back in like...10 years. Service 5 star. Ambience 5 star. Food...well it's 5 star. My wife had the prime rib which was perfect. We asked for rare and they found it. I had the Ahi special, tuna roll, deep fried batter while the tuna was perfectly rare. I'm not sure why folks are giving this place a less than 4 star rating - it's so good and consistent. Even after 10 years, this is one of the best places to eat in the area (Alexander Station RIP), this is the goto place to go!

Absolutely love the vibe with brick walls, dim lights, the large bar area, good music with musicians in the evening and the tree in the middle of the restaurant. We came on a busy Saturday night and sat at the bar. The music by Jay Tausig was enjoyable. His guitar skills paired with his voice made for a great combination. We were also fortunate to listen to Jasmine Janai and her voice is absolutely beautiful. We got the prime rib and NY strip foand both were delicious!! For dessert we got the Maui pie and loved it! Vanilla bean ice cream on an Oreo crust with hardened chocolate on top with fudge on the side!

After 30 years, plus we have eaten at this restaurant. And we have recommended people there constantly as a local business. The ownership and staff cannot give a darn. The menu changes daily and makes no sense. Will not recommend anybody again. And we will not go back again unfortunately

A week off the grid by the Yuba River, went into Nevada City several times for food and ice cream. We came across FT's and loved the food so much we went there twice in that week. Stand outs: - Tuck's Onion Bread - un-believable. The bread was dense, hearty and full. I'm so used to the same (sorry, boring) sour dough bread popular in SF that this bread was such a new and satisfying taste and texture. We loved the way the dish simulated a French onion soup with the creamy melted cheese on top. - Escargot - served with the same delicious bread. So flavorful! - Tempura Prawns - light and full battered. The house made batter makes a huge difference in the quality. The chili aioli dipping sauce brought out the flavor of the prawns and batter nicely. - Salmon with Sweet Potato Au Gratin was my favorite! The potatoes were sliced perfectly and with a hint of sweetness.... I could have had several servings of this as a main. - The Smoked Burrata salad had a nice smokey flavor- We also had the ribeye one night, which was good, but not too outstanding. Every single person in the bar works hard. One night we went, it was near closing time and not too many people there. Got great service from the bartenders and Ken, the owner, who greeted us and talked with us for a bit, which we both enjoyed. The second time we went in, they were absolutely packed and every server, bartender, food runner, busboy and kitchen staff were on the floor helping each other out, even Ken was bussing tables, greeting people and handing out menus. It's a good welcoming vibe. I can't wait to go back again!

Service was perfunctory. Food arrived within five minutes of ordering which was a little suspicious. Food was ok, nothing special. Nobody came to check on us to see if we needed anything else so we paid and left. Overall, disappointing.

We came down from Chico to Nevada City for Victorian Christmas, and happened upon Friar Tuck's by chance, and I'm so glad we did! As you can imagine, it was BUSY with the streets shut down for vendors and people swarming the small downtown area, but we were able to be seated on the patio almost immediately. Even with the extraordinarily busy nature of the evening, our server (Yoav?) was attentive and charismatic. The food, unsurprisingly, was phenomenal... and a welcome alternative to the food truck vendors. Between the three of us, I was able to try the wedge salad, French onion soup, sausage & peppers, prime rib, and creme brulee. I'm kicking myself for not ordering the cheese fondue, but I guess that just means we'll have to return. A dog friendly patio and clean washrooms were icing on the proverbial cake! I've always known Nevada City is charming, but I had no idea what a gem we'd find in Friar Tuck's.

This restaurant had a really fun atmosphere. They had a small band playing old school music - which was really fun. We were sitting near the bar area so we could see the singers. The Moscow Mule was good, but the dirty martini that my father-in-law ordered was not. He asked for it to be extra dirty, and he was not pleased. So we ordered extra olive juice, and that didn't taste very good. The spicy jalapeño drink was delicious. The onion bread was delicious. The hors d'oeuvre with the fig wrapped in bacon was absolutely one of the best hors d'oeuvres. I've had. I would definitely order this again. Salty and rich and flavor. The beet salad was delicious. My father-in-law states that the pork chop was delicious. I myself shared a porterhouse with my fiancé. That meal was not good. It came out sliced and was not a good piece of meat. I'm used to a porterhouse coming out, not sliced up and nice and thick. my meal came with the sweet potato au gratin. That didn't taste very good. But asparagus that came with our meal was delicious. I would not order my meal again. The service was great. They were very kind and they all had smiles on their face. I would recommend this restaurant for the atmosphere and for some of their delicious food.

The main reason I went to Friar Tuck's was to enjoy their well known regular (not cheese) fondue. They had a variety of seafood and meat. They no longer have it on the menu and I was so bummed. We went during Victorian Christmas and they indicated they had overbooked. Luckily we had reservations. That was my last visit. It was a bit loud but it was very crowded as well.

We had the Valentine's weekend special menu last night. I had the petite Filet Mignon and Lobster with Bearnaise sauce and my husband had the Ahi special. Both were excellent! I wish I had taken pictures, great presentation:)
