Decided on Frank Fat's for Dine Downtown 2025 for dinner before catching Hamilton at SAFE PAC on a Friday night. For $45 per person, all of these items are included (minimum 2 people):Appetizers: Pot Stickers (pork and vegetables), Crispy Spring Rolls (vegetable)Entrees: Honey Walnut Prawns, Saigon Crispy [Tangerine] Chicken, Garlic Green Beans, Cauliflower Beef Stirfry, Shrimp Fried RiceDessert: Banana Cream PieAdditional items ordered: wok-fried spareribs and a chow mein, drinks. The prawns, chicken and green beans were the best, fried rice good, and the cauli beef okay. The banana cream pie is always a great way to end the meal. Very good service, booth seating, mindful of the dining time to walk back for the show all worked out. Takeout boxes and bags provided too.

This ownership of Frank Fats has a lot to learn, starting with the manager, Zachary. Meeting him explained a lot. He most assuredly has to be a friend of the owners to have a job here. His go to is to be rude and full of attitude. He was more concerned with trying to brag about a "Michelin" rating than concern for the welfare of my husband or the quality of our experience. We love all the old world restaurants in Sacramento. We visit them frequently. We were treated very disrespectfully when my husband wanted to speak to the manager over his specific request of no mushrooms. He is allergic to them. His plate came out with a huge helping of slimy black mushrooms mixed into his entree. When asked about the order being not as requested, Carmen said she forgot to tell the kitchen about it. Really, your customer specifically asked for no mushrooms and you forget. Sad! What happened to good customer service and treating senior citizens with common decency? That didn't happen. He treated us poorly and threw a gift card at my husband. Not right.Basic manners are not that hard. Pay attention to details and care about your customers.

Service was great! We came in around 4 pm and the restaurant was already bustling; maybe that's the fame of having a Michelin Bib Gourmand title. All the staff who helped us were super friendly and agreeable. The restaurant interior feels like a tunnel of illusions. From the spacious first room to the crowded second room and into the quieter and dimmer third room, it's amazing how one restaurant/room can host a variety of different atmospheres for dining. My father and I shared the special course meal to try what the restaurant had to offer. Does the food taste authentic for Chinese food? No. Is the food still good? Yes. The same way Panda Express holds a place in my heart for its fast food mimicry, Frank Fat's Chinese food is very much so a nice dining experience tailored to the diverse tastes of the Californian masses. Every dish was seasoned well and hit a different flavor profile, so my father and I had a great time enjoying a balanced meal. Plus, that banana cream pie was light yet rich in flavor, cultivating a satisfying end to our intimate meal experience.

We got here with 5 out of 6 of our group at 5pm on a Friday. We had a reservation for 5:30, but figured if we got there early we could get seated sooner. We got sat at 5:10pm. We ordered some drinks while we waited for the last of our party to make it. She made it a little after 5:30pm and we were able to order our food right away. We all decided to do the Dine Downtown special (only available one week in January each year) and also added some Chicken chow mein and spare ribs to share. The Dine Downtown special was $45 per person and came with 1 egg roll, 2 Potstickers, fried rice, broccoli beef, honey walnut shrimp, Crispy glazed chicken, green beans, and a slice of their famous banana cream pie for dessert. Since we all ordered the same thing they brought the dishes out family style with enough to feed everyone (plus we had leftovers). Everything was so tasty and the service was outstanding. The honey Walnut shrimp was my favorite main dish and I loved the banana cream pie - a heaping mountain of whipped cream, fresh bananas, and unique Crispy crust. My friend was telling me that last time she came they had run out of banana cream pie so she had to settle for chocolate cream pie. Our server overheard our conversation and he brought her out an extra piece in a to go box to make up for the last time she didn't get a slice! It was so sweet.Oh also, they have a $30 supersized Mai Tai... definitely good for 4 people. My cousin got it mostly for himself LOL.I would definitely return here, even if just for dessert. A Gem of the city for sure. Bonus: I went to the Kings vs Warriors game on 1/22/25 and they were celebrating Lunar New Year at Golden 1 Center so Frank Fat's had a pop-up kitchen there. They ran out of their chow mein and egg rolls before the game even began and we made sure we got some banana cream pie before they sold out of that too! I got to have it twice within a week! I am so fortunate!

I wonder if Paul Fleming came here and then decided to make PF Chang's, everyone's favorite shopping center rip off of this 85-year-old classic Sacramento gem. Anyway, here's another Dine Downtown 2025 review! We loved how they served everything family style for this event - as others have said, it showcases the more popular dishes nicely. For our little guy, we also ordered the Yu Kwok, which is a very kid-friendly app, and a side of simple noodles, which had a really nice roasted flavor without being crispy. Pork fried rice had that smokiness that you hope for, the cook on the beans was spot-on, and both the chicken and broccoli beef dishes were lovely as well. The dish I was looking forward to the most was the much-celebrated honey walnut shrimp, and for me it was the weakest of the lot - not bad, but the next time we go, I won't bother to order it (too many better alternatives!), which is a letdown because it's one of my all-time favorite dishes. Our servers were knowledgeable about allergy stipulations and very accommodating. Unfortunately they ran out of both chocolate and the famous banana pie. They did their best to make up for the letdown by giving us a business card with a "good for..." note on the back, and a kids'-sized ice cream for good measure. It was a busy Friday night, and there were probably a half dozen people who dropped by our table at one point or another - it seemed like a well-oiled machine with solid collaboration. Love it when a good team can work together like that.We were happy to be seated in one of the booths in the back where it was a bit less noisy, but the two front dining spaces had a great art deco vibe that I wouldn't mind during a weekday lunch with fewer crowds. As far as value goes, I'd argue that Frank Fats toes the $$/$$$ line and is more on the pricier side, but the food is truly solid, everyone seems to get plenty of it, and the atmosphere and servers make for a nice experience.Excited to go back!

Frank Fat's has a lot of history for being around for a long time. I like the "old-school, upscale" vibe when you walk in, we were seated in the back booths, which I would recommend. They are more intimate. Cocktails were perfectly made, I tried the Asian Pear which was not too sweet. It was delicious. Came in for the Dine Downtown Event. This consists of 5 main dishes in a smaller portion which was perfect. My favorite dishes were the green beans, honey walnut prawns and crispy chicken. If you are thinking of trying Frank Fat's during Dine Downtown is the best time to come so you can sample these popular dishes. Luis was our server, he was great and frequently checked in on us throughout our dining service.

I've heard of Frank Fats for years but never had the chance to dine there. Finally got to try it during the recent Dine Downtown and everything was good. We had a set menu for $45/person which included potstickers and veggie spring rolls, honey walnut prawns, Saigon crispy chicken, garlic green beans, cauliflower and beef, shrimp fried rice, and their famous banana cream pie for dessert. All of the food (with the exception of dessert) was served family style. Every dish was very tasty and utilized quality ingredients. The service was friendly and the decor was modern with an Asian flair - similar to a PF Changs. Not sure if the pie lived up to the hype, but that's my personal opinion. I prefer a more pudding forward banana cream. All in all, I enjoyed the restaurant and was glad to be able to finally try it.

My family selected Frank Fats to celebrate my sisters birthday using the dine downtown deal. We were pleasantly surprised and impressed with the menu and most importantly the service and ambience. The selection of food was deliciously fabulous: appetizers (egg roll and potstickers); honey walnut shrimp, cauliflower (and broccoli) beef-the beef was tender AND the dish had ALOT of beef pieces!; chicken; green bean; shrimp fried rice, wrapped up with a slice of the famous banana cream pie (to die for-YUM!). We had so much food that we had to pack our left overs. It was my first time and definitely will go back! Highly recommended-Must experience

Been wanting to try this spot, so was pretty excited for it. We did order this for pick up, since we have 2 little babies and they can be unpredictable. I ordered quite a bit - there were a lot of dishes I was curious to try. When we pulled up there was a loading zone in front. I saw a few cars park there and people ran in so we did the same. The parking garage pricing was $10 at the time. Took longer to get our food than the quoted time, but assumed everything was going to be fresh. Food came in paper boxes, so food wasn't very warm when we got home and was pretty soggy already. Was unfortunate- we only live about 10 minutes away. We ordered- Orange chickenSchezwan beefSaigon crispy chicken Honey walnut prawns Sweet and sour porkYoung shew fried riceSang gai shee chow mein According to the description I was expecting the Saigon chicken to have more spice than the orange chicken but I think the orange chicken had a little more. Orange chicken had good flavor but they use breast meat so a little on the dry side. The Saigon chicken was rather tough. Schezwan beef also had good flavor and nice kick to it. Honey walnut prawns aren't your typical breaded shrimp. They were very light. Good but nothing on journey to the dumpling. Sweet and sour pork was average- they do have larger pieces of veggies with a nice crunch though. The fried rice was SO good!! It came with pork, sausage and shrimp in there. Super fresh. I would come back for just that. Chow mein was average. Again we ordered to go so I'm sure the quality wasn't as good as eating in. But the rating is more for the price and portion sizes. We spent about $200 with tip for "good" chinese food. I think you can get delicious Chinese food at hidden dumpling or journey to the dumpling for a little lower cost and you have leftovers for a couple days. We did have leftovers but only lasted until the next day. And if you eat in you have e to pay extra for parking... not sure if it is worth it.
