Folsom City Lions Park is one of the biggest children's parks in Folsom. Spanning the entire space between East Natoma, Stafford Street, Folsom PD, and Lake Natoma, there is plenty to do here. The park includes the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary and Barnyard Experience, Folsom Valley Railway, Folsom Library, and Einstein Cafe. Amenities of the park include a very large covered picnic and barbecue area, an educational center, a baseball field, a butterfly garden, lion statues, a veteran's memorial, and more. Summer concerts in the park are played from the gazebo in front of the library. Folsom RodeoCross runs through the park, and shuts it down a few nights per year. Sometimes, there are food truck festivals in the park, although there haven't been many in the past few years, obviously. My favorite thing to see at this park are the peacocks, which roam about year round. I also really enjoy the ambiance of the RodeoCross, which lights up the forest behind the play area with string bulbs hung from the trees. The Johnny Cash Trail passes through the back of the park. To get to it, hike down the path between the accessible children's park and the restrooms. Alternatively, the trail can be accessed from the nearby Rodeo Park. There is, also, technically, a snack bar in the park, but I've never seen it open. Ever. And I've been coming to this park since I was in high school! This park has changed so much over the years. When my family first moved to Folsom, the old library (which was recently demolished) was a few blocks away. The park was sort of just an accessory to the zoo. It's main feature was a tall steel slide. Now, the multiple play areas, library, zoo, and bike trail are all within walking distance of each other. As time has gone on, this park has gotten better and better. My daughter and I have spent many hours here reading books at the library, riding the train, walking around the zoo, and playing on the playground together. Overall, this is a decent kid's park, with plenty of space to run around, and plenty to do.Update: Do NOT hike in the area between the playground and the Johnny Cash Trail, as it is now, apparently, off limits. Temporary fencing has recently popped up to seal off the area. The trail is still accessible via Rodeo Park.

"Children engage in [free] play because they enjoy it - it's self-directed. They do not play for rewards; they enjoy the doing, not the end result. Once they get bored, they go on to do something else - and continue to learn and grow." ~ Sheila G. Flaxman Such a beautiful park located right next to Folsom Zoo with a working train, 2 playgrounds, both for younger and older children with swing sets, fun vintage looking play pretend themed areas with a working front desk bell and more! My toddler really enjoyed playing on the playground yesterday in this beautiful weather and we all enjoyed strolling through the park seeing children play a game of baseball! I would highly recommend visiting this park, it's like stepping back in time with the theme and your kids will love it! Don't forget to mark on your calendar September 28-29 for this year's Folsom Renaissance Fair that's hosted at the park each year, complete with great food, games, crafts, vendors, live entertainment and more!

This is an awesome park....only problem is that the city has decided to allow a fairly large homeless population congregate here. The result is a park that isn't safe or clean for the kids anymore. Such a shame.

For Earth Day, my fiancé and our daughter had a nice picnic at Folsom City Lions Park located on the corner of Stafford St/Natoma St in Folsom, CA. This park boasts a library, multiple playgrounds, Folsom Zoo Sanctuary, war memorial, and a mini train ride to view things around the park. For the library, it was spacious for both adults and kids filled with books, dvds, and board games. For the train, it is $3 a person and the conductor was super nice and even took pictures for us. As for the zoo sanctuary, $7 per person over the age of 2. There were few spaces with signs of "bear with us" (meaning they are filling it) but we had a great time finding the other animals in the enclosure. Both my fiancé and our daughter loved the "barn experience" to see different barn animals like goats, donkeys and horses. We saw a war memorial that is behind the library that memorized war veterans' names who died in the wars that were from Folsom, CA. We had a great time today and will be returning time after time.

Folsom City Lions Park (FCLP) is a terrific ±40-acre park that's situated close-by the infamous Folsom Prison and the American River--in fact, there's even a trail that takes you alongside the west end of the prison itself! I originally arrived here to check out the Zoo and the Train, but was pleasantly surprised at what I stumbled upon. There is so much to see and do here at FCLP that I may have missed some of it. Here is a (hopefully) thorough list:-There is plenty of street parking available, if you can find it. Otherwise, there are two free parking lots: the primary one by the library and zoo, and there's an overflow lot also available by Rodeo Park at the end of Stafford St. -Restrooms-Picnic Tables w/ BBQ Pits-Folsom City Library-City Hall-Playground and Tot Lot-Lighted Baseball Field-Community Center-The (aforementioned) American River Trail access that can take you by the prison.-Gazebo & war memorial statues-Folsom Zoo Sanctuary (http://www.yelp.com/biz/folsom-zoo-sanctuary-folsom?hrid=ZsE6UTwDOf7grbtUX3VuTQ)-Folsom Valley Railway (http://www.yelp.com/biz/folsom-valley-railway-folsom?hrid=qJKeTb5U9lIZm8n9SQ42kA)-Well-maintained grassy fieldsI can honestly say that FCLP is the best City-run park that I've ever been to--granted, I don't get out much, but whatever... In a city that's known more for their prison and Johnny Cash, I'm discovering there's more to this place than meets the eye. "Far from Folsom prison, that's where I want to stay; And I'd let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away..." --Johnny Cash, "Folsom Prison Blues

Super spacious playground that's great for the kiddo. I like that we can come here after visiting the zoo and riding the train. There's two sections and plenty of place to run and have a picnic. Not much seating but lots of grounds to put down a blanket.

Great place to take the kids! We just celebrated my nephews 8th birthday here and had a great time. Lots of kids in our family ranging from 2 years to 8 years so it's great that they have areas designated for all ages. We did see one homeless man there but he was of no harm and was incredibly grateful when we offered him some hot dogs, burgers and chips from our bbq. Great clean place, we will definitely be back!
