The good news is that the long remodel of this lot into a public space is done. It makes it a perfect spot for a farmer's market, notably with a shed roof and attractive landscaping (both plants and pathways) and well-organized parking (for the most part). But the function is more like boutique farmer's market. There's not much variety of actual farmers, although there seems to be a pristine example of each category of agricultural goods -- honey, cheese, meat. But don't expect to get your green grocery shopping done here, and the variety within even basics like berries or greens is more limited than Sprouts or even Smart & Final. The food trucks are a sparse but typically mediocre and expensive. And the market is already too crowded. The big treat is the yard-long tube of popped corn that distracts the youngsters while mom and dad peruse the beeswax soaps. My biggest gripe is that the City likes these little demonstration projects, and makes no attempt to get real quality farm-to-fork food, or to coordinate it with the other efforts at Laguna/Big Horn or District 56. Good ideas, all of them, but pick one that works.

Thanks to my Elk Grove pals Ashley N and Judi M for giving me a great reason to drive all the way to Elk Grove ;) This farmer's market is great, and it's only getting better.Old Elk Grove really needed this boost. The setup on Sunday has your basics: kettle corn, a food truck or two, fresh veggies, local cheeses and honey and some arts and crafts. But the extras did it for me. The coffee vendor, the loose leaf tea vendor, the vegan mayo/spread vendor- all fantastic. The organic produce was also reasonably priced.Parking is not a problem. There's a small paved lot across the street from the market, or a large dirt lot directly behind.Bonus is that you're in Old Elk Grove, which means you are walking distance to a handful of good brunch and lunch spots too.

Hadn't been to Old Town Elk Grove in many years. Why? It's still so sweet and getting sweeter all the time. This new farmers market helping giving it a boost up the destination ladder. The market is finding its way -- just five months new -- it will get there. Allan D'Anneo, Market Manager, Living Smart Farmers Markets, is bringing locally grown, locally made, locally good to Elk Grove. Watsonville, Capay Valley, Sacramento, Lodi, Escalon -- all good things from the earth -- raspberries, apples, carrots, heirloom tomatoes, cheese, honey, peppers YUM! Bread, baked goods, tamales, good dogs (and I do mean tube steak) kettle corn (of course) and more! Delicious homemade goodies for your pooch, handcrafted soaps and body products, colorful tees, sea glass jewelry, and exotic goods, Yes, they're off to an excellent start. It was a bit quiet on this Labor Day Sunday -- okay by me but I know the vendors are eager to greet and meet you! Fabulous live music -- this time the incredible and so mellow Jessica Malone and Matthew Hevesh! More events coming to this corner including the 6th Annual Tomato Taste-off, September 18, 2016 and Pumpkin Patch and Paint, October 2nd and 30th. The fifth star is coming for this rising star on the ag-tourism, farmers market circuit. And Old Town, I'll be back sooner than later! Are You That Woman is the ultimate omni-local.

I am so excited about this new farmers market! This past weekend Old Town Elk Grove got its very own weekly market (every Sunday from 9 -1) and I have to say, they really did a great job incorporating not just fresh fruits and veggies, but local artisans, bakeries, coffee vendors...I was really impressed. My all-time favorite market is in Aptos and there they have fresh fish, a butcher, ceramics...plus a bunch of fresh organic fruits and veggies. Based off of the start of this market, I can easily see this going the same way. Locally we have a bunch of markets, but none of them seem to get it exactly right. Elk Grove's Saturday one is tiny with not a lot of variety. Fruits and veggies with a couple of flower vendors. Midtown is my favorite local one - lots of fresh organic fruits and veggies, bakeries, flowers, artists selling jewelry. But it also is tiny, and parking is a pain. The massive one under the freeway on Sundays is amazing. But with all of that variety comes ridiculous crowds and almost getting run over every time you walk over. No thanks. They also do not do much beyond grocery items - I want to buy some jewelry and crafts! EG's newest market is off to a great starts. A couple of things I wish they would improve upon is:1) Time - Opening at 9 is kind of late for a farmer's market. Maybe open at 8?2) Selection of fruits and veggies - I know we are kind of between seasons right now, but there were literally 6 different people selling only oranges yesterday.3) Artisan selection - I like that there were soap vendors, wooden toy sales and jewelry for sale, but there was not a lot of polish on the presentation or the products. The one exception was the cheese lady. That sage cheddar was amazing! But the beaded jewelry vendor, the soap people...I feel like they are catering to an older crowd and I wish I has found something I was interested in buying.

I see I missed David M. By 44 minutes. Too funny. I actually visited this farmers market by reading his review last week. My hubby and I really like farmers markets. I like this one because it offers everything I look for in a market. There is food to eat while I'm browsing, handmade goods to buy for myself and for gifts, fruits and vegetables. There is plenty of parking in the back and all around. Hubby bought bacon jerky. I bought goat soaps. We both had a pastry. I love talking to the people who actually grew or made the items I am buying. There is a gentleman with great paintings that show so much feeling and talent, very reasonably priced. Check it out.

Nice to have this market in walking distance but it is too damn hot! I loved it in E G park with shade trees and in the mist of family time walks, dog park barking and after an early yoga session or jog/run. The new location is too hot & the produce is expensive. The honey is great!

This was so disappointing possibly the worst farmers market I've ever been to it was more like a dog park I counted at six dogs in front of me no fruits and vegetables but one or two booths hands-down the worst.
