This is the closest thing I get to a rave. The event was held at Cal Expo. Like many other cars, I parked on the streets to avoid the $10 fee. It's a fun run, so it was untimed. You can even purchase beer at the run. The race was held at 8:00 pm, but didn't really start until 8:30ish since they were waiting for the sun to go down. Afterwards, they had people cross the start line in waves to prevent overcrowding on the course. I think I was in the last wave and we didn't start until 9:00. The course consisted of lights and techno music but parts of the course were dark and quiet. It felt like we went off course towards the end because it wasn't well marked, but we were able to figure it out. There was also an after-party in a building. Even though it was cool seeing people dressed up, I wouldn't do this run again. It was the priciest run I've done so far.

The Electric Run was basically a 5k rave held at Cal Expo. With all the flashing lights, glow-in-the-dark everything, neon and black light, techno and house music blaring, you couldn't help but get caught up in the dizzying atmosphere. It was a lot of fun. First start time was at 8pm. But since there were 10,000 participants, my team's start was around 8:45pm. While we were waiting for our official countdown, the m.c.'s were throwing down some free stuff into the brightly colored crowd. I caught an LED ring. Totally awesome! Then we were off...into the darkness! What happenned to all the lighted arches and pillars? Where were the speakers blasting the music? I was expecting more of the route to be lit up in some way. And it was, but only at a few certain points along the way. Nothing as grand as I had hoped for. For a $50 reg fee, I guess I did expect more lights and music along the way. But it was cool enough, and just to look back at everyone behind me in their glow-in-the-dark attire was such a fantasmic sight. I really recommend this run to anyone who likes to have fun, and doesn't consider this a real "run". It's all about creativity, costumes, and bright lights. The route had us going through the parking lot, over bridges, through tunnels, and into buildings. There were plenty of background set ups for photo ops. One weird thing was that I didn't see any "official" finish line. Did I miss it? We just kinda ended up in an open space, in front of the building where the after-party was being held. It was a bit anti-climactic for a finish line. We didn't dare set foot into the sweaty mess of the after-party, although, if you're into that sort of stuff, it did look pretty wild. Can't wait for next year's run. GIves me plenty of time to start working on that glow-in-the-dark body suit!

Wow....This was an amazing event! The event was awesomely filled with over 10k people in bright green and pink, highlighter faces, and glow sticks all over the place. It was very organized with very little issues throughout the run from beginning to the end. The lines were short and getting information was a breeze. There were a lot of places of the run that were very colorful and great photo opportunities! At the end of the event, there is a party for all the people who still had energy for it! Definitely recommended for everyone and their moms.Pros: Organized, Fun, Lots of areas for photos, people, colors, temperature, end partyCons: Bubbles ran out, Hot inside the end party area, ParkingStars: 4.75

I took my then 8 year old son a couple of years ago. We had a BLAST. We walked a lot and that was just fine. The people were all hyped up and friendly. The theme parts were amazing. My son loved the giant gummy bears where they piped in a sweet smell. I loved the jelly fish. YES there is quite a bit that isn't completely lit and decked out....this is a MILES LONG course people. There is no way the entire course could be lit and themed. We only went to the after party for a few minutes. It was pretty crowded and rowdy and tbh we were worn out! The vibe for the run was amazing. People encouraged eachother and stopped to help take pictures and high five my so etc. Only warning - quite a few attention hungry teens wearing next to nothing. So if that bothers you, it could be a problem. Luckily most of the run in relatively dark lol.Bottom line - we had a blast. It is a once in a lifetime experience and we bonded. I highly recommend doing it even just once. But don't expect it to be a hard core competive run or to be a permanent - style amusement park. Tame it as it is. Take your time. You've never seen anything like it!

I was disappointed. The only feel-good that came out of paying so much was the fact that they are partnered with a non-profit charity.Going into this, I already knew that it was not quite a run, and not quite a rave. I was debating whether I should spent that money on a real rave instead. But I figured I try something new and opted for the "run". Besides, the gallery of the Courselands looked amazing on their website. What better way to get your workout than by running through psychedelic themed rooms?Let's start at the beginning. The starting line was awesome. Pounding beats, tons of people lined up in glow gear, free stuff tossed from above, the excitement and anticipation. But that quickly fizzled as the waves were being released so slowly. By the time we were able to run, it felt like 30 mins had passed. Once released, it was a dark, dark decent into the quiet parking lot, which wraps around and around until it hits the Rainbow Road. After that, there was another dark, quiet gap winding it's way through Cal Expo fairgrounds. The Courselands weren't as amazing in person as they were in the pictures. I'd say the best was Neffmau5 Land, but it was so tiny, it took only a minute to power through that place. The other themes were cool at first glance, but I wished there was more decorations, blacklights or LEDs. Something! Especially in between the courselands where there was the dark silent voids. It just ruins the experience when you enter such a decorated space, only to run through dark silence until you reach your next destination. The afterparty at the end was a nice attempt to mimic a rave, but the room was SO BRIGHT and it was muskier than a sauna. And with such a wide age range, the party should have been featured on How to Catch a Predator. Nice experience for a run. But been there, done that. First and last time I'd be doing this. Save your money for a better run like the Color, Mud or Zombie Run.

I was a little disappointed by the event. They advertise that the whole run would be filled with lights and music, which was not the case at all. They had stations set up with waves of music and lights and it was shortly lived. Majority of the run was dark and uneventful. Out of 3 miles I think only a quarter mile was actually light up and had music playing. I would rate the run part a two starThe after party was pretty fun and I would give the after party four stars. It was packed and had really good sound, The music was good and they had drink vendors in the back. It was a little short since it ended at 11 and they run "started at 8" but with all the different people we didn't make it out the start until 9. Overall: Good after party, Ok Run, Little pricey but I should have just bought my ticket earlier.
