El Cantaro Vegan Taqueria

What a gem! Great service. Friendly attentive. We bought several things being our first time and they were doing a dog rescue fundraiser. I got the crispy potato tacos. Topped delicious with fresh tomatoes, lettuce and cabbage. The taco shells were beautifully crisp. Order came with 4 and a bowl of beans. I chose black beans abd they were seasoned well. That was a lot of food by itself.I also got the jalapeño ranch salad. Topped with generous slices of avocado. It was a salad 2 could share. I loved their house salad so much I mixed it with the dressing and poured it over the salad. Wow so good. Hubs got an order of burria tacos to share, which came with a bowl of spicy consommé for dipping. They were outstanding and spicy. So tasty I ate half a taco despite being too spicy for me. Hubs also got combo plate one. It had a really good enchilada, pinto beans and some rice. The only disappointing part was the rice. Very bland, BUT stirred together with the beans and enchilada sauce the rice fit right in.Loved the art hanging on the walls.

Hubby Tom S. decided to try this place as he knows I love Bambi's Vegan Tacos so much! This was quite a drive for us but we went anyway. It's in a non descriptive shopping center tucked in the corner. Sort of a run down place. Acoustics really bad with lots of people, so very very loud inside and no outside tables to get away from the noise. You order at the counter and they do deliver food to your table. We ordered 2 potato and 2 "steak" crispy tacos. It comes with a bowl of pinto or black beans.Tacos were ok but potato taco very bland. I added their salsa to it for more flavor. Steak taco a little more flavorful. Shells were very hard and crispy. Two shells were completely broken as served to us.Eh, won't go back.

Lunch of 4 crispy taco combination. Comes with 5 ounce side of pinto beans.Okay as an animal lover I do appreciate that all products here are vegan, even though I am omnivore. I am acquainted and experienced with home based vegetarianism (my previous wives were both vegan). I swear that we did not divorce because I eat bacon. We never argued about food. I ate what they cooked and ate meat when I was not in their presence.Anyway back to this review... The dining room is completely charmless. Kind'a beat up. The furniture has seen better days. The concrete floor and walls loudly echo'ed the incredibly noisy capacity crowd of 30 people during my visit. Headache city by the time I finished and exited.The $18 quad of tacos were simple at best. Not well crafted. Two of the tacos were served to me with broken shells, I mean completely each was broken off on one side. Grin and bear it. Writing here 3 hours after the meal. Feel fine.The bowl of liquid semi-squished pinto beans were fine. No additions to them except maybe a little salt. But the side of vegan sour cream is a salt bomb. So a balance was struck? My Yelp review of Bambi's Vegan tacos in midtown Sacramento is a five star exclamation, even though that dining room is frowzy, too. I think my accolades of Bambi's is positively influenced because they serve booze.3 stars here at El Cantaro is a generous rounding up from a more precise honest 2.5. For what they serve and how they serve it the relatively high prices are not warranted.

I had the nopales taco and the memelitas for lunch today. I'm not a vegan or even a vegetarian, and so I tend to not go for faux meat when eating at vegan/vegetarian establishments. The food was great and honestly, I'm still thinking about how good it was hours later.

This is my 4th UYE that features a vegetarian/vegan menu, and another restaurant that I can proudly place on my "favorites" list! This time, only 4 of us devout Yelpers could attend, that included myself, Bridget W., Janelle M., and Nancy M. I just wish this place wasn't so distant from my house, or I would be eating here regularly! The wall menu is amazing! They offer just about every kind of Mexican dish you would find at standard Mexican restaurants, but it's strictly 100% vegan with some gluten free options also. I had a hard time trying to figure out what I finally wanted to eat! I was very hungry, and wanted to try several things at the same time, so I chose the Combo plate #1: one crispy potato taco, one chickin' rolled taquito, enchilada with lettuce, salsa fresca, sour cream, cheese, guacamole, with a side of rice and my choice of black beans. I also ordered a bottle of sparkling apple juice as my beverage. The food was so delicious, that I cleaned every scrap of food on my plate! Everyone else in our party of four really enjoyed their meals also! After one visit, I just can't stop thinking about what I want to try next when I'm back in the area!

You simply must get the chile rellenos. No wait, the enchiladas.Or actually, the pozole...While it's almost painful to make a decision between all of these power players, the good news is that you can't make a bad choice. There's not a single dud on the menu, and yes, EVERYTHING is vegan. If you want real-deal Mexican food, this is it.

This is the 2nd time ordering from here. The food is so good, the vegan options, plenty! The shakes, horchata, tacos, vegan enchiladas and burritos have amazing flavor. The food is always fresh, warm, packed carefully and professionally. I love all the sustainable packaging as well. Would highly recommend.

The Best VEGAN taco spot in Sacramento If only I knew about it sooner! So I came here with a vegan friend and we ordered so many items, all the taco were very delicious and flavorful but my favorite item was the soup! My gosh such a great replica! The lady attending us was very nice and friendly and answered all the questions I asked, the ambiance was peaceful with great music and a clean space, everytime im Around this area This is my number one taco spot

At the assistance of the staff I decided what better way to experience what a restaurant had to offer than a combo. I ordered combo No. 1 enchilada with vegan chicken topped with their green sauce. I won't kid you and say the vegan chicken tasted like chicken, I knew I was enjoying vegan, but it was very flavorful and satisfying. The black beans and Mexican rice tasted as you would expect traditional rice and beans to taste. The combo also came with a vegan chicken taquito with salsa verde and a crispy potato taco and chips and salsa. For $21 the amount of food is good value for the price. They also had a soda Ice not enjoyed for several years, Sidral Mundel Apple Soda. If travels ever bring me back to Sacramento, I'd definitely return. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.

Poor service? No, actually no service. They don't wait tables or give you water. I was doing of thirst, about to have a panic attack from how desperate I was for water and not a single check in. Mind you I saw water behind the counter. So once you order the food, you're on your own. For this reason I recommend getting it for take out only. They have the best pozole I've ever had!! The burrito was caloric dense and greasy, but if you like Mexican food I'm sure this isn't an issue for you. I love that there's an option for vegan food out here in Sacramento. I will def come back for the soup.
