Don't judge a book by its cover, like I did!! I have driven by this place so many times, and I'm sorry to say I avoided it because it's in a pretty sketchy neighborhood. Lucky for me, I read the reviews and trusted my Elite friend May A. lol she always writes such thorough reviews, and takes fantastic food photos so I finally went tonight and ordered takeout! I ordered the BBQ Mix plate (A1), 6 piece of pork lumpia, and 2 piece chicken a la carte. Everything was still hot and the chicken was SO crispy! My goodness, the fried chicken was epic..some of the crispiest and tastiest fried chicken that I have had in years. The lumpia was delicious, and the BBQ Mix was a generous portion! A friend and I shared everything, and still couldn't finish it. The short rib, bbq chicken, and beef were all so flavorful, and the mac salad was on point! I can't wait to go back and try more like the fried fish, chicken katsu, and the tacos. Excellent!!

DQ's menu looked promising so we decided to give it a try. As Hawaiian food lovers we had to see for ourselves. The location is not in the greatest area and the building needs a lot of TLC. We decided to eat in and were the only customers in the dining room. The drive-thru had a steady stream of cars. The dining room was dingy and had dead bugs along the window sills. The floor was sticky and it had no decor. It was a missed opportunity to liven the restaurant with some type of decor. The staff, all two of them, were working hard and quite polite. They really put in the effort. The food was a little bland. The Loco Moco meat was over cooked and the gravy was a little sparse and lacked flavor. The Short Ribs were good although I would've preferred the sauce to be a tiny bit sweeter. The Mac was okay. It was missing something although I couldn't figure out what was missing. The chicken Katsu was good. The portions were large and you definitely got your moneys worth. I also would've loved some more drink options aside from fountain sodas. Maybe some canned Hawaiian Sun or something. We also ordered the Katsu and regular Musubi which were good. Overall the food was fine even if it needed a little more flavor profile. I would eat here again if in the area. Just to give it a second chance since the staff was so friendly.

Are you also the type of person that has high standards to a "hot&new" place because you have Yelp friends that gave it a high star rating? That's exactly what went down for my first visit to DQ Hawaiian, I basically went into my meal with the highest of standards ;P b'cuz peeps like Mama May, Michael, Doug and others rated DQ quite hiiiiigh, so you know I just had to try this spot. Who doesn't love a GOOD fried chicken and Hawaiian food meal?! The best of both worlds if you ask me :D*DoorDashed - arrived within scheduled time. Thanks DD! With that said, the fried chicken was still crispy, crunchy and golden in all the right places. Peep my picture for evidence, this is probably theeee best fried chicken I have had in a while! Besides Jolibee's spicy chicken thigh, these fried chicken pieces are big and juicy AND bursting with flavor! The crispness can NOT be beat and the fact that they were still crunchy, as if they were fresh out the fryer after being delivered from the store?! Unbelievable, the fried chicken here is Legit, with a capitol L. Now onto the Hawaiian food, you know ya girl had to get the beef short ribs. All day, everyday! Kept the crispy chicken vibe alive and also ordered the chicken katsu since my plate was the "half & half" combo. Ummmm, if you're indecisive like me this is the puuuurfect plate for you because they have so many options of the most popular proteins. No more stress in ordering because they have it all available. Chicken katsu? Of course was delicious with the perfect crunch between every bite. The beef short rib, heavenly - marinated just right and grilled to perfection. Big portions for a nice competitive price. Now onto the Mac salad, because you know this is really the deciding factor on if a Hawaiian spot is good or not. The verdict? Creamy, flavorful and delicious. Passed! It is safe to say that my Yelp fam did good in giving this spot 5 stars. I stand behind them in giving a strong 5 stars to DQ Hawaiian Bbq & Chicken. Can't wait for my next visit, yummmmmm!Note: DQ may not be located in the best part of town but TBH some of the yummiest spots can be found in these "not so" places around Sac. Am I right? ;D

Sometimes come here for lunch, only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars is because i ordered a meal or 2 before i realized on yelp it said they come with a soda, i was never even gave or asked if i wanted one. Had to point it out to get one, food other wise Is really good. Just wish whoever works the drive thru gets more on top of there service.

Read some of my friend's reviews so I decided to pick up dinner here. The place is a little run down and located in a less desirable area. Everyone knows I try the loco moco everywhere I go. The hamburger patties reminded me of the frozen 1/4 patties at Costco. They were cooked very well done but ok. The gravy and Mac salad were ok nothing special. We also ordered a seafood platter it came with 4 prawns and 2 pieces of fish. This plate was very good. To top things off we got a 3 piece fried chicken. This chicken was super crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside simply excellent.Overall the place has reasonable prices, good service and tasty food. I am looking forward to trying their musubi, short ribs and lumpia on my next visit.

Hawaiian comfort food and more [Sacramento CA]We dined here with a couple of friends during the week and sampled many of their specialties. We met owner, William, who was very nice and generous to our party of 4. A Hawaiian BBQ restaurant that serves tacos? Heck yes! Beef, Pork, Chicken and Shrimp taco... so good! A Hawaiian BBQ that offers fried chicken? You know it! We tasted the best fried chicken... juicy and most flavorful golden crispy chicken. The BBQ Mix Combo Pack included a combination of succulent beef, chicken, and short ribs. The Seafood Combo included fried shrimp and fish fillet... all flavorful and delicious. Let's not forget the Chicken Katsu, French fries and the pork lumpia. And what's a Hawaiian meal without scoops of macaroni salad, yes please. Oh man, we were stuffed. Luckily, we all had a second stomach because we had desserts after that... chocolate milkshake, hot fudge sundae (for me) and our friends each had a banana split. JR and I enjoyed the company of Michael and Vince while we indulged in Hawaiian comfort food and then some... wish they had a location in Roseville because their fried chicken is fire! Review #3470

Wow! Just wow! Myself and a few of my top foodie friends had dinner here last night. We tried the fried chicken, bbq mix plate, fried fish, fried shrimp, lumpia, katsu and banana split/desserts. Everything was amazing. AMAZING! I reserve that word for the elite and this was definitely that and then some! Portion sizes were bangin'. My fav was the fried chicken. Better than Popeye's in my opinion. Moist chicken inside and a light breading. Oil was clean. No old oil here. Superb! Shrimp was breaded to perfection and slammin'. The fish is a cornmeal breading which was thin and light and tasty. The shorts ribs were good, the katsu was thin breading and great, the lumpia was not greasy one bit and delicious. Their mac salad was good and not overly mayo'd up. It was very good. Plus unlike other similar places you get 2 scoops of rice in the mix plate and not just 1 scoop. The banana split was fabulous. Fresh bananas! I absolutely LOVE this place and William, the owner is cordial and great to talk to. His pride in his food shines through and through. The area is a bit sketch but all the good eats here more than makes up for that. Just go there in the daytime. LOL. This is going to be my regular place for fried chix, fried fish, Hawaiian plates and desserts/shakes (esp. in the summer!). Shakes they make are amazing with real fruit in them! They also have burgers and fries too and get this...great tacos too! (we got a sample to try out). A one stop shop for mega drool-worthy food. No joke, DQ has it ALL!

DQ just opened up down the street from my house and I was a bit skeptical to check them out since the previous restaurant before this didn't look too appetizing. We stopped in today based off the reviews and I'm pleasured to say that they lived up to the hype!We walked in and were immediately greeted by the friendly staff - guy at the register and the older guy cooking in the back. The guy at the register gave great suggestions and spoke a bit about the menu items and pricing. We ordered the BBQ Short Ribs plate, Fish Sandwich and the 3 Musubi options. The short ribs were tender and flavorful and the Mac Salad on the side was some of the best that I've had. I'm a big Spam Musubi fan, so not only was I happy to see it on the menu, I was even more happy to see they also had a Katsu and a BBQ Chicken version! I loved all 3! The fish sandwich was also very good, I think it could have used a slice of cheese, but the fish was crispy and not greasy at all. Overall, I'm excited to have a place like this in my neighborhood. The inside needs some love, but there are plenty of tables to dine in, they also have a drive-thru! We'll be back soon!

I was in the area, when I got a craving for musubi. Rather than heading over to my usual spots, I wanted to give this new establishment a try. Selling not only Hawaiian bbq, offered are burgers, fried chicken, ice cream treats and competitively priced catering options. They have a convenient drive-thru, decent parking, and plenty of dine-in tables. Area is on Marysville Blvd, close to the Arcade Blvd intersection south of DPH neighborhood. Very nice owner, really funny guy and very proud of their food! You will love their fried fish if flavor is your thing. The perfectly cooked swai fillet was large with a highly seasoned cornmeal breading. Chicken was juicy on the inside & crispy with a fry breading that reminded me of small town country style diners of my youth. My spam & bbq chicken musubis were very good. However the katsu musubi was overcooked and dry. I love crinkle cut fries and the ones I got were good, could be crispier. My side of Hawaiian mac salad was really tasty. Noodles were firm not mushy. Dressing is mayo heavy like all island mac salads. I will be giving their other items a try since they left a good impression. Wishing them success and lots of customers!
