My mom and brother were in town and we decided to return here to visit. We had all visited before but 10-15 years ago. We happened in on a day that was a free day at the museum and came in at just the time to have a tour by a docent. The docent was polite and knowledgeable providing more detailed information on some of the exhibits and sparking thoughtful conversations. We also took some time wandering on our own and enjoying particular pieces we liked. They had added onto the original building since any of us had last been there and my brother suggested I come back for music and dj dancing which they host on Thursdays.I gotta get back here more often and suggest it as a place to take family visiting. It is also a good way to spend a relaxing day. It is also near Old Town Sacramento another fun place to spend time.

I really enjoyed walking around and looking at all the art. This was my first time in Art Museum so I enjoyed it. I would go back again without my kids so I can fully enjoy the experience and focus more on all the art and read the descriptions of each piece. Before we started, we decided to get a small bite to eat at the cafe. We didn't try any of the actual meals or salads but more like snacks and drinks. I wasn't impressed by the Charcuterie Box that so seen sitting in front by the cashier fridge area. My sister and her family actually met us at the cafe. They actually got the Charcuterie Box and it looked like it was moldy so it was returned. I'll give the cafe another chance next time for some coffee perhaps. Overall, It's a definite must see if you never been there before. I won't post any photos so go see it for yourself!

What a great way to spend the first few days of the new year--exploring someplace new! We have never been before today but my toddler has been asking to visit an art museum. After a quick local search, this museum came up and with great reviews! The kids (as well as the parents) loved it! What a great collection of different medias of art as well as ancient artifacts. It is a well organized (albeit smaller museum) that is clean, engaging, and full of lots to see in every direction. Parking was easy and affordable. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. We were advised to begin on the 3rd floor and work our way down and this was a great suggestion! The third floor houses most of the painting galleries and then there are artifacts and photography on the second. A cafe and scenic courtyard are on the bottom floor and was a great place to end where the kids could have a snack and run around before heading home! Truly a gem of a place!

Had a wonderful experience visiting the Crocker Art Museum! Admission was $15 per adult and I was pleasantly surprised with how large the museum was. My spouse and I took about an hour perusing the museum and were so impressed with the wide variety and style of art available. Metered parking was available directly across from the museum which made it very easy to access the museum without having to walk far at all.

Almost 10 years since original review. I like to visit every 6 months or so to see the limited exhibits. Even though I have seen all the treasures in the original house that is my favorite part just to marvel at all of the wood work, tile, marble and architecture. It's a short walk next to the river to Old Sac to make a day of it.

I got a free museum experience by being there on a Sunday so that's pretty cool. Every third Sunday it's free! I really enjoy a lot of the diverse collection. They also have live exhibition and events so you can come back one in a while to check out new things. Favorite thing was the David Cerny collection , really whimsical and thought provoking. Also you can check out their website for some upcoming project and exhibit. I'm looking forward to the Nuwa Hands.

See the attached picture. I really love this piece. Mary Thurman has a new ceramic exhibit. I love her motto. Parking is at the meter. The meter ate my money. Next time I'll park in the lot. It's only $5 all day on a Saturday. This would be a great place if you're seeing a show at the Golden One Center as the price is so cheap. The public lot next to the Golden One Center is $25 on event day. This is also the place to park for Art Mix. The Thursday night adult Art event at the Crocker. The cafe was open and they have salads, sandwiches, and drinks. It was noon and we only saw people drinking green tea and a person eating chips. No one had any food from the cafe. It sounded good, but we weren't hungry yet.The Crocker is a fun place to spend an hour or two, depending on how much art you want to look at. We go so often we just come for the new exhibits and stay around an hour each time. It's great living so close that we can do that. We don't need to carve out a whole day from our schedule to make a trip to the Crocker. This time we just returned our rental car and had time so we just swung by and stopped in for an hour. The big exhibit was still being set up so we only were able to see the new exhibit on the 3rd floor the small gallery. Soon as you come up the stairs on your left.

I liked this art museum for having such a wide variety of art. It was easy to walk around and pick rooms of interest. I used a Discover & Go pass from the library, which made it ok to try with a child (no risk if child is bored and wants to leave). We stayed about an hour. The person at the entrance was nice and friendly. At one point, we were staring at an art piece and pointing out aspects of it to each other, and a guard came and told us not to touch. I was polite and said thank you, but... We hadn't touched, nor were we close to touching. Then the guard kept watching us. That made me feel uncomfortable for the rest of our time there, like we were being closely monitored for no reason. Did he think we had touched it for some reason? Or did he assume that because I was with a child, the child wouldn't know not to touch? The gift shop wasn't great. Lots of expensive things. Nothing we really wanted. Note that the entrance isn't at the front of the building, you have to walk to a more modern looking entrance.

Sac's little gem. I often find myself here on ArtMix nights. They have different theme events every second Thursday of the month. You get to see entertainment, have drinks, food and also have full access to museum. When I bring my friends they usually have a blast.
