Crest Cafe

Have been a long-time fan of Crest Cafe in downtown Sacramento. Since I'm retired and living in the burbs, I thought I'd give this a try.The food was delicious!! I had the couscous salad and the lettuce was so tender and flavorful that I wonder if they'd picked it that morning. The couscous was perfect, and the garlic sauce was drizzled in a lattice pattern ove the top. My dining companion had the Chicken Schwarma Tacos and loved them!!The decor and furnishings were pretty and comfortable. It's nice to have a new neighborhood favorite!!

So yesterday, hubby and I was excited to try this place after seeing so many glowing reviews but was disappointed that the chicken kabob and chicken shawarma was dry. The sauces helped but needed a lot of it. I got the 'Build It Yourself' Chicken Shawarma rice plate (+added side of Chicken Kabob for $4) for myself and ordered a Chicken Kabob wrap for hubby. We agreed the Chicken Kabobs were more dry than the Shawarma chicken. There were a couple of other people who mentioned their chicken was dry but I didn't believe and wanted to judge for myself; well...they were right. However, to be fair I think it could be more of a hit or miss.I tried both the Chipotle sauce and Garlic Sauce. Chipotle has a slightly spicy kick to it but spices are strong (typical of chipotle) and reminds me a bit of a mildly spicy ranch-BBQ sauce. It was okay, didn't care for it much...I felt it was a little bit overpowering and I prefer more 'refreshing-tasting' kind of sauces like tzatziki or garlic sauce, but hubby thought the Chipotle sauce was fine since he generally likes that kind of flavor-profile. Though we both agreed the garlic sauce was definitely the favorite (it was mild, not too garlicky, perfectly balanced, refreshing and delicious).Next time I'll try the Mediterranean Nachos and will pick a hopefully less drier chicken option. I'll likely won't do the Kabobs again.Today however, I'm thinking of trying out "The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill" restaurant as comparison to see which I like better.

This would have been a 5 star review, but some consistency issues with food. I eat here frequently and will continue to do so! The food is great, the flavors are packed in and there is a great balance with sauces.I order the Mediterranean bowl with garlic chicken, it's a personal preference and a nice protein packed good fat meal. Mediterranean nachos are also a hit and shareable, the feta, tomatoes, onions and cucumbers make it so good but what really takes it over the top are the fried pita chips, crunchy outside and chewy inside Yum! Falafel tacos are excellent and sooo good, maybe the best I've had in the area. Everything has sauces which make the dishes. Always friendly service and my to go are also packed well. Cute decor and a nice spot for a lunch meeting or date.

This is my new favorite spot in Elk Grove. I've been here a handful of times and it has never disappointed. I have even recommended it to friends and coworkers. The chicken tacos are flavorful and filling but my favorite item on the menu is the Mediterranean Nachos. The ingredients are fresh and make you feel satisfied without feeling heavy!

Crest Cafe is one of my favorites in Elk Grove when I want a quick and healthy meal. The interior is nice and bright and the food is delicious. Really enjoyed their Mediterranean Nachos. The fried pita chips were amazing! They're crispy and soft at the same time. Mediterranean Bowl is a really healthy option. This is usually two meals for me. Veggies are fresh and their sauce is delicious.

I was looking for a healthier option for dinner and Crest popped up! It was the perfect option when you're looking for a quick delicious plate of Mediterranean food! The interior is decorated really nicely! The wall of greenery is a nice refreshing touch! It's very clean and decor is simple but gorgeous. The service was really good! The person who took our order was nice and gave us recommendations. We ordered a Mediterranean bowl with chicken and a make your own bowl with chicken kabob and garlic chicken. I was really impressed with my Mediterranean bowl it was a good portion for the price and was filling! It was similar to a salad with rice at the bottom. The chicken was seasoned really well and they use basmati rice. For the price I think the make your own bowl could have had more meat, especially when we ordered extra meat. Nevertheless, the meat was seasoned really well and was super tasty! We tried the creamy jalapeño and garlic sauce for the bowl and those were really good. I really loved the garlic sauce. Def would recommend if you're looking for a healthy option to eat! I need to try the nachos next time! They seem to be a really popular item.

Built my own plate with garlic chicken. Chicken had good flavor, not too salty. Salad with extra toppings was very tasty too. Places a phone order and picked up with no issues. Super cute decor inside!

Salad was good. Limited menu. Walk up and order at the counter, seat yourself. Definitely fast food vibe with a cute interior. In a busy shopping center .

Simply delicious fresh food. I mean vibrantly fresh. The cashier was friendly and welcoming. It's an order at the register and grab a table setup. A bottle of chilled water was brought to the table. Our food came in short order and the visual assured me that I was going to love my food. My eyes did not let down my taste buds. The food was served in a nice portion. It made for a very filling lunch. It looks like the menu is the same for lunch and dinner. I think it's a good thing based on today's lunch. Can't wait to get back soon.

Highly recommend! The menu is small, but the food is excellent - fresh and flavorful. And I found my new favorite food - Mediterranean Nachos! The place is clean and cute, the staff is friendly and professional. We ordered an additional item to go after we were done eating and they didn't put the side of tzatziki in the bag. The server ran out to the parking lot to bring it to us :).
