Chicken King has some real potential. This Shell Gas Station used to sell Crispy Crunchy Chicken and I love me some CCC. So when I arrive and noticed that this other chicken was being sold, I just had to try it. I arrived around lunch time and ordered a 3-piece Chicken Combo for $7.99. I was told I could pick any three pieces, but limited to only one breast as a selection. I ordered a breast and two thighs and it came with a Honey Butter Biscuit. I took my order to go and found a nice shady spot to eat. Chicken only has a spicy chicken on their chicken sandwiches, so my order consisted of the only option of 'regular' or 'original' or non-spicy. I was amazed with the seasoning, it was salty, it was peppery and definitely had a hint of spiciness to it. And the CRUNCH, boy was this chicken crispy. I instantly became a fan of Chicken King. One week later, I felt like fried chicken again and decided to drive back over to Chicken King to satisfy my cravings. This chicken was for dinner and I ended up arriving about 4:30pm. There was a lot of chicken under them heat lamps and the guy behind the counter told me they had a new cook and he made a little too much for the lunch crowd. I asked how long that chicken was sitting under them lamps and he went to the back to look at the ledger and returned to tell me that some pieces have been there for two hours. Their policy/process is to throw out four hour old chicken. So, if I wanted any chicken, I had to take what they had. I deal get a deal on what I bought that day, but it wasn't worth it, as my wife couldn't eat the drumstick with a fork. It was too dry to pull the dark meat off of that chicken leg. I tried another drumstick to find it inedible. This was strike one.Just yesterday (one week later again), I wanted fried chicken and arrived at 1pm, during the lunch hours or what should have been their lunch hours. I ordered a 16 piece chicken only and received an assortment of two breasts, four thighs and the rest drums and wings. Once again, the drumsticks were terrible. Every other piece of chicken was hot and juicy with each bite. Not them drums though.....Like I said in the beginning, Chicken King has some real potential. It can't be easy to offer quality fried chicken at a gas station at all times of the day, but their process needs to be adjusted for overage and maybe just make the chicken 'made to order'. It may take longer, but those that buy your chicken will appreciate the special effort, quality and integrity of your fried chicken. I'll keep coming back during lunch hours, but I'll stay away from your drumsticks.
