Great Farmer's Market Right *SMACK* In Front Of City Hall!SITREPSacramento has been pretty lucky in recent years to have such a healthy diversity of Farmer's Markets scattered throughout the Downtown / Midtown areas, and even off the grid near UC Davis and under the Freeway.THE SETUPI have to admit that I DO miss the "romantic ideals" of the farmers markets, and when they close down at the end of summer / beginning of Fall, there is something missing from our great sidewalk landscape as we head into the colder winter months.BUT REALITY SETS INNowadays, though, I am very much less enamored of Farmer's Markets in general though because in all practicality they are not at all the deal they once were:* There was the assumption at the inception of these downtown markets in years past that buying direct from the "farmers" would bring some substantial savings in buying produce and other fare; however,* In recent years, the vendors (if even farmers now) are merely cacheing on that notion, hoping that we downtown-workers will just buy for the "glorious outdoor market experience" (and which, in all honestly, is still fun if grabbing a bunch of grapes or cherries to nibble as I walk along); and yet,* But a prudent trip to Bel Air, Raleys. Safeway, or even Nugget Market will demonstrate pretty convincingly that the prices the market-vendors are charging really are ripping us off.THE LOWDOWNAs a practical reality in which to actually "BUY" significant produce for my weekly cooking extravaganzas, I'm pretty much "over" these markets. But as a nod to the markets & bizarres of public squares gone by, I DO still enjoy a literal romp around the park, checking out the vendors on the sidewalk.

This farmers market was such a pleasant find on an aimless Wednesday! So many cooked food options, will try one next week. Loved the inner circle of food options and wide outer circle of produce options. Produce was priced okay, not as expensive as the big Farmers Market on Sundays, but not as cheap as the Asian farmers market...And parking was really difficult as others have stated. :( But this is definitely my new stop on Wednesdays!!

When you look up the term plain and bare, a picture of this farmers market should show. Unlike other farmer's markets in Downtown on Capitol Mall and Oak Park, which features more a more diverse selection of food, veggies and culture; this farmers market seems to be watered down and bland. Maybe the move to the old Sear's parking lot in Arden is to blame. I would love to see food trucks and more vendors added to all of the empty space between vendors.

Wonderful market! Temporarily located at the Sears parking lot at Arden Fair mall while construction going on by regular location under the freeway. Still lots of vendors there. Lots of parking.

Cute farmers market right on 9th street on Tuesdays. It's right by my work so that's a huge plus. They have fresh fruits, nuts, veggies, flowers, and some food vendors. Wish there were more food vendors at this location compare to the FM on Capitol on Thursday. But I guess that would be hard with the limited space. Still a great FM to stop by during lunch to pick up some fresh fruits.

This Farmer's Market is seasonal on Wednesday at Cesar Chavez park and is only open from spring until late fall. I always look forward to the Farmer's Market every year. My favorite things to get here are the peaches, beets, and kale. There are some things I get here that I can't get at a regular grocery store such as different variety of kale and spinach. I come here every week to get my weekly supply of fruits and veggies. Tips: - Prices are marked down as it gets closer to closing time as vendors are trying to get rid of all their produce. I got a 5 lb bag of peaches for $2.50! This would normally cost me at least $7.50. SCORE! - Walk around and compare prices. Most of the vendors sell the same produce. The vendors with prime locations at the ends are usually the more expensive ones. The cheaper vendors are usually in the middle- Although these are locally grown, not all of the produce are organic. The vendors will usually display a sign that says certified organic. - Most if not all vendors do not use pesticide. This is great for consumption but also means that the produce does not last that long. I only buy enough for the week as most of my produce do not last longer than this. - 99% of the vendors are cash only so bring cash and change! Food: - Juice bar stand: They have a few flavors and sizes. They also offer samples- Hummus stand: They have a variety of different flavors. It doesn't last as long as hummus from the store because they don't additives. Not necessary a bad thing but keep in mind to consume it within a few days. - Food trucks: there are so many food trucks here. From kettle corn to Chinese food. There's something for everyone. Compared to all the farmer markets during the work week, this is the biggest farmer's market with the most variety of vendors.

For what it is, a midweek farmers market in downtown, I like this one. Firstly, I love buying the bounty that our central valley has to offer. We are so lucky to live in the fruitbowl that is California. From what I can recall the last time I went yesterday, I saw:* Pluots* Peaches* Plums* Grapes* Eggplants* Green beans* Apricots* Apples* Squash* Zucchini* Nectarines* Blueberries* Blackberries* Cucumbers* Carrots* Lavender* California native plants* ...and other stuffYou can get food for lunch too! I bought a platter of Indian food: two curries, rice and naan for $6. There is also gyros, Mexican food, kettle corn, ribs, etc.Is it just me, or does this place seem like a meat market instead of a fruit and veggie market? Lots of people checking out the wares, ifyouknowwhatImean.

The sun is shinning and the birds are chirping. . .Farmer's Market time!Every Tuesday this Certified California Grown Farmer's Market is open from 8 am to 1:30 pm. This is a smaller outdoor market, the vendor's circle only half of Roosevelt park. Roosevelt Park is conveniently located near many state buildings and businesses. Whether you walk over on your break or lunch, the vendors are ready and eager to assist you in your shopping needs.Fruit, vegetables, cheese, herbs, fresh bread and tortillas, various nuts and jams for everyone's enjoyment. New additions have been added for the lunching state workers which includes; BBQ, Indian, Chinese, fresh fired grilled pizza and Mexican food stands. It's always nice to get out of the office, chat, view all the inspiring treats and taste test fruit.

I'm spoiled and don't have to worry about finding parking for the Cezar Chavez Farmer's Market because I work across the street from it. Thanks to getting older, I've discovered a love for fruit that I've NEVER had so the market is like heaven to me. I think the prices here are pretty fair, and it makes me feel great to buy/support local. Some highlights for summer: the yellow nectarines, blueberries, and dates, OMG!Also, last week my sis and I were fortunate enough to experience the most monotone and loudest "Hells Bells" rendition from a unique wandering soul. And I witnessed a grown man finish his popsicle treat and then literally skip across the entire park. The Market just makes people THAT happy.
