Carmichael Academy - Family Taekwondo

I just joined the kickboxing class and absolutely love it. Everyone there is so kind and welcoming. Kim made sure I would be able to participate and I really appreciate all of the help from her and others. This is a wonderful place to workout with wonderful people.

Love this place. We are learning so much. Confidence is boosted. My son and I both go to the same class and love that they are so family oriented. I highly recommend this establishment. All the instructors are friendly and knowledgeable.

Thank you Tavern for creating a place for us women to enjoy not only getting toned up and fit , but also a place we can let steam out on the bags . This place doesn't make you feel judge but empowers you to take control of your health. Great place for everyone.

As I'm posting I see the negative reviews. What was i thinking always read yelp first. For new parents:Cost Transparency. You pay $20 for a uniforms and 3 lessons(we got 1 lesson).You sign a 1 year contact for $199 monthly fee for one childPlus you pay a $294 Deposit.(If you want to cancel you give a60 days notice to cancel.)In order to kick boards the last part of each class you must join Blackbelt program which has an additional fee or you don't level up (you don't advance if you don't pay)and that costs $850. We lasted 2 months before being asked to pay more and putting in our cancellation(another $400 to get out)Also it's $75 each belt yellow white, yellow, green white, blue white, blue, red white, red, black white, black.According to their staff you get an emailed a manual with all the fee information. Well if there is nothing to hide post the manual on your website. And i should not have taken information from another parent on fees instead ask the one person in charge.I felt guilted into paying and it doesn't feel good. I had no problems with the staff until it came to money. Wait i did have a problem receiving a phone call that i should have known about the money through email. I was clear that I didn't want my daughter disappointed because i choose not to pay additional for blackbelt but it happened anyway tears and all. I find it hard to believe that no other parent had issues with the fees. Hey live and learn you want your child to do taekwondo in California be prepared to fork out $4000 a year.(not including tournaments) Because tons of families love their program after all family is in there name. And other families pay $1000 a month. Did not appreciate them telling my daughter maybe if you behave and do extra chores your parents can pay for the blackbelt program. We left feeling disappointed.

I agree with some of the other reviews about the high-pressure sales tactics and lack of transparency around discounts.We signed up for the basic package (without being shown other packages required to progress in class) for our family of four at $5,976. They immediately offered a 20% discount if we prepaid, so we paid $4,780 for the year, which included a clause for a 60-day cancellation notice.We initially felt good about the purchase and attended for three weeks. After earning a couple of stripes on our belts, they invited us to a meeting where they revealed new pricing plans and paywalls. To get equipment for our kids, we were required to commit to a 3-year "blackbelt plan" for $21,528 (as shown in the attached picture).After facing pressure to upgrade to a $21,528 plan in less than a month, we submitted our cancellation request, hoping to honor the 60-day notice and receive a refund for the remaining amount. However, they refused, citing their policy--quite surprising!We would have been happy to pay the $4,780 for the year and buy the equipment separately, while staying at the yellow/green belt level. Unfortunately, the equipment is locked behind the blackbelt paywall.I'm sharing this for transparency, as we've heard that two other families had similar experiences. They are good teachers, but their business model is misleading.

Been coming here for a year and a half for the kick boxing classes and I love it! It toned me up fast and everyone is really nice and professional. I actually look forward to coming in each time, I have a lot of fun and laughs while I work out... it's pretty great, I recommend it!!

I've been here 3 time now with my granddaughter and seen a lot of happy people. Awesome place

Children and adults were grouped together and pressured us into making a purchase. Thankfully we didn't.

Hi pressure sales. I was super disappointed that they did this on the first lesson, made me for SURE not want to return for the remaining 2 weeks. Not a comfortable experience.

All the amazing individual benefits of Martial Arts along with a wonderful community of friends and families! My daughter absolutely loves going to her taekwondo classes. I love that they have given her a growth mindset that's made her confidence in her self, more focused at school, and even more respectful within the home. I did not expect all that. Plus we have so much fun at their community events! I highly recommend everyone to enroll their child in Family Taekwondo too
