I was on a work trip and I wanted to train at school that was close to my hotel. After sifting through some schools I found one, Capitol Jiu Jitsu. This school looks exactly how it feels, welcoming! When I walked in Coach Justin welcomed me and showed me where to find things. When I was stretching, I spoke to a few of the members and they were all great. The class was lead by the owner and Gibran Maciel and he too was welcoming and we had a great roll. I highly recommend this school for locals AND visitors. If I lived here, I could see myself at this school and it is my hope that when I do return in the future, I can visit Coach Gibran and his team at Capitol Jiu Jitsu! THANK YOU CAPITOL JIU JITSU!

I've gone to a handful of different schools as a visitor while I travel for work and Capitol was one of my main highlights. I e-mailed before hand if I could drop in and was referred to the schedule and to come when I could. I figured I could drop in for an hour, call it a night and get some food before my flight home the next morning. I saw they had a beginner class from 5-6 and I figured I could jump into that and leave. I walked in a little early-always a good idea just so you could get the admin stuff out of the way so you can be fully ready when class starts. Professor Gibran walked me through the facility and the waiver process. He had another student ask a question so he left me to change in one and jump into class. The instructor for the beginner class walked me through the beginner curriculum, it was pretty thorough and organized well; so much so that I took a picture of for my own review later. I was paired with a student who was pretty new so it was nice to be able to slow down and go over the finer points of techniques. I figured I would head out afterwards but there was another class right after and Professor Gibran somehow convinced me to stay. I think it was something like, 'come on, you won't regret it.' During the drilling part I asked if it this was a certain position. His response still rings in my head, "from my understanding," and then he showed me the difference between what I thought we were doing vs what we were actually doing. the humility he had in answering though was what got me. On top of that he was a very tough roll and he got the better of me when I thought he had given up an advantageous position. He baited me into it masterfully. After class, I asked about a drop-in or mat fee and he just waved me off. I ended up buying a t-shirt which I proudly rock from my visit. If I were to move to Sacramento this would definitely be my training home.

Full disclosure - Capitol Jiu Jitsu has been my first exposure to martial arts; and this place has made me seriously regret waiting so long - the experience here so far has been incredible. Gibran and Justin (Muay Thai) have made me and my son feel so welcome. The instruction that my son receives is top notch and he feels like he walks away from every session having learned something new and full of joy. The sense of community here is outstanding. I'm not sure how other Jiu Jitsu/Muay Thai gyms are, but this place is awesome and I am looking forward to getting involved myself and to being members here with my son for years to come. I can't recommend this place enough!

Had a wonderful drop in this morning at Capitol Jiu Jitsu in Sacramento. One of the nicest gyms I've ever seen, with brick walls, wood paneling, and even stain glass windows. This gym is fully equipped with showers, changing rooms, sauna, and fully setup weight room. Most importantly, it's just a great place to train. Nice folks, great teaching, sharp technique, and awesome rolls. I couldn't have had a better start to my day. Everyone treated me like I was part of the gym.I emailed ahead of time and the owner, Gibral, was super responsive and professional. The waiver was easy to find and to complete. Also, my Achilles heel.....their merchandise is so sick. I ended up getting both a rash guard and a T-shirt (I used our designated grocery card so that Wendy hopefully won't notice). If you're living in Sac, or even just visiting, check this place out. #traineverywhere#traineveryday#trainwitheveryone

During my recent visit to Sacramento, I decided to drop in for a few no gi classes. The facility itself was clean and well-maintained. Upon arrival, I was greeted warmly by the staff and fellow practitioners, which made me feel welcome right away. The no gi classes I attended were well-structured, starting with a comprehensive warm-up that included both solo drills and partner exercises. The instructor was knowledgeable and had a clear and effective teaching style. During the technique portion, we focused on a series of leg locks and submissions that built on one another, ensuring that everyone, from beginners to advanced students, could follow along and grasp the concepts. The instructor took the time to correct individual mistakes and offer personalized feedback. The sparring sessions were at a good pace and controlled. Overall, my experience training at Capitol Jiujitsu was fantastic and I was glad I could find somewhere to train while away from home.

I went to a couple open mats and all the guys are kind and welcoming. Stopped in one day I had off and told them I was just coming because I had the day off. They let me do a session no charge. Also I prefer this gym over a couple of the other gyms in the area. They roll with consideration and are still tough. If I where in the area regularly this would be my go to BJJ gym!I was in a time crunch after and even allowed me to use the shower with no issues.

Had an opportunity to attend the Friday night open mat. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. The rolls were well paced and partners matched intensity to keep them challenging and safe. Saw a lot of high level grappling and the members had a great range of skill sets. The gym is beautiful and has a long list of amenities. If you're looking for a great place to train checkout CJJ!

White belt review Went to visit because my home gym was closed due to sharing space with bingo enthusiasts. It happens, l guess. Capitol Jiu Jitsu was incredibly welcoming, with a professional and kind atmosphere. Owner/coach was extremely approachable, and intensely knowledgeable. Got thoroughly beat up in the nicest and most gentle ways, and every one was so collaborative and helpful in their complete destruction of me. Enthusiastic thumbs up. The gym also looks slick, has more amenities than a boutique hotel owned by IHG, and is located in a convenient part of town. Please give Capitol Jiu Jitsu a chance if you are even remotely close.
