Also known as the "Twin Towers" of Sacramento, this is the central headquarters of the California Department of Social Services statewide. The buildings consist of OB8 (southeast tower) and OB9 (northwest), both of which were renovated very recently. Social Services recently centralized most of the Sacramento Staff including a portion of the Information Systems Division that was sitting out at the Pink Palace a couple blocks away. The buildings are very comfortable, clean (because of the renovations), and pretty up to date for state buildings and offices. The OB8 tower has a child care program which recently opened, and the OB9 southeast tower has Cafe 744 with a pretty simple straight forward menu and operating hours of 7 AM - 3:30 PM. The cafe does not require badge access and is a good place to grab a bite for breakfast and/or lunch, especially in that particular area as there aren't that many restaurants nearby. Capital Athletics is diagonal to the "Twin Towers," and one block down is Roosevelt park where the Farmer's market appears on Tuesdays. There's a Golden1 ATM in the lobby, useful for most Sacramento-ans, and Regional Transit is block away on 7th/8th and O St.People are for the most part pretty nice in the department, and depending on the atmosphere and division you reside in, work can be pretty laid back. For the most part, it's not a suits type of place like some other departments and agencies.

Thinking of applying for a job here? Have you taken a look at their recruiting brochure? It says they're looking for talented people. Now take a look at yourself in the mirror. Ask yourself, am I talented, hard working, qualified, confident? If the answer is yes, then you need not apply. Yes, to repeat, you need not apply. Because if you do, you'll be scr$&%d. You'll waste many days interviewing, days you could have done something more productive with your life. Now ask yourself this, are you unqualified, unmotivated, lack confidence? Do you think that you're not worth being hired anywhere? If the answer is yes, then by all means apply to work here. Yes, apply. You'll be glad you did. Because you're exactly the type of applicant this agency is looking for.

I was referred to this agency to be on LEAP program for state employment and I was certified however the counselor told me if I did not know anyone important in the State then I would not really get a chance for any job. He then told me that my job goal would be customer service which I have no background in. Then I was sent to an employment assistance agency that would help me create a resume that was really basic. I was then sent on job leads to Temporary agencies that were having job fairs at minimum wage. I then got a part time job at a on my own and never heard back from any of them for the remainder of the 90 days that they activated my Ticket to work thru SSI/SDI. This Agency DOR is a waste and not a true resource to finding employment for a living wage. There are already County job services that have offices all over Sacramento that do the same thing. such as SETA. This was disappointing and proved why so many people get on SSI/SDI and will not try to get off. What makes it stupid is the counselors Lie and say they know of potential hiring companies that are looking for aggressive job seekers. Also they claim that they know who is hiring and that they will send you to their employers that they have ties with. They never do, if you get a part time job for minimum wage then thats good enough for them. They probably take the credit on Jobs you found without their services. Accepting part time work is the worst thing you can do in the Ticket to Work program. Do not use your 9 months up on non living wages. Do not believe these people when they say they know recruiters and have employers for direct hiring. The whole thing is a sham to get you off disability that you qualified for so maybe you are disabled and will end up in a situation by losing it for low wages trying to be productive again. In a nut shell they are Crap or BS however you want to see it. The State of California has no excuse why a County Seta program is more in depth and assertive at finding people employment. just not the DOR sends you to an Employment Network. They Network will tell you they do not have the resources to find you employers that they have a relationship with. The other thing is they are wasteful for time and development. You can get all these services from Google for free that how primitive it is. GOOD LUCK
