Cafe Bernardo

Cafe Bernardo is a casual cafe that serves a solid Brunch. I've been to Cafe Bernardo for drinks before but this was my first time trying food from their Brunch menu. I entered the restaurant on a Sunday morning and noticed that there was ample seating available both indoors and outdoors. The restaurant is very bright, spacious and there are actually two sides to the restaurant at this location on R street. My friends and I decided to find a table on the side closest to the bar area so that we could have table service vs just ordering at the counter. The side of the restaurant we selected also had plenty of big screen tv's which had the Sunday morning football games on. For my meal, I ordered the Chicken Apple Sausage Scramble and it was filled with scallions, smoked mozzarella and it was served with herbed potatoes, toast and jam on the side. I really liked the scramble and the herbed potatoes were well seasoned. My friends and I shared the Brioche French Toast which was topped with peaches, raspberries, almonds. The toppings tasted great overall but the French toast itself lacked flavor. Our waiter throughout the meal was attentive & kept our glasses full of mimosas. While they do not offer bottomless mimosas, my two friends and I found that we were able to share what we ordered at a reasonable price.

Cafe Bernardo is mediocre at best. I've been to the fair oaks location and their ambiance is a a lot nicer than the one on R street. The ambiance is nicer than the quality of the food. They did have plant walls in the back patio which we took photos with. The food was very mediocre. I paid $35 for a chai latte and a breakfast burrito. My friend booked a private room upstairs for our group of 12 of us. The chai tea latte was huge like a soup bowl and its house made and was pretty good. The breakfast burrito had eggs, black beans, and cheese inside and I didn't think was worth $25. There was no seasoning. It came with a side of potatoes which were not flavorful. I could have made it at home. My friend got the French toast and she barely ate it because it was too sweet and was not good. The drinks took forever even though they knew we were a big party and it had been booked in advance. The food probably took an hour or more to get. The service wasn't that great and the food and drinks came out at different times for all of our party.

The food quality and taste do not match the price point at cafe bernardo. It is overpriced for what it is. I give this specific location two stars because the food is inconsistent and a rip off basically. I asked for a medium burger, and for $18 i got a burnt overcooked monstrosity lol. I had the same burger at the other location in sac and it was very tasty, but for the prices i expect a medium burger on a toasted bun, not a burnt bun and overcooked meat for $18. My friend ordered a small Caesar salad with chicken one time and a large chicken caesar salad the next visit. They were the same exact sizes except the large was still small and $24. I won't be back to cafe bernardo and neither will my friend,

Similar to my favorite brunch plaza down in San Jose called Bill's Cafe.This egg Benedict was on a sourdough bread which was quite different than what I was used to. The overall taste of the dish was well seasoned. Need to get a table quick! Then you can order at the counter. There is a water refill station and some utensil. It really feels like a diner!

So disappointing. I've been looking forward to coming here all week and getting one of their juicy and tasty burgers. I ordered my burger medium like I did on my last trip here and it was lousy. It was over cooked, a little burnt on the edges and very dry. I was only able to eat half of it as it was so bad. My coworker also got the burger and his was dry too. I'm glad I wasn't alone in my. Misery. He only ate half of his too.They get two stars because the service was good. Our food was served quickly. We got there at 11am so it was early enough to get a few tables together for our group. They don't take reservations so you need to get there early to get a table. As it turns out there wasn't a big crowd today so getting seats wouldn't have been an issue if we came a little later, but you never know.

Ashley our server was phenomenal. Very friendly And thoughtful. The 3 type salad sampler never fails. I had the mushroom and cheese, Thai chicken and Farro and roasted vegetables!! Delicious. My friend has the butternut squash

This is a popular restaurant so I can run out with a couple locations. People seem to like it. I have a problem with the whole barcode menu and ordering from your phone and the people that drop off the food still wants a minimum of 18% tip not much service just somebody bringing plates from the kitchen. I've been at the restaurant industry, roughly 3540 years and I'm against the whole principle of paying separately for service. I really feel it's the responsibility of the owner to pay all of their staff adequately. We shouldn't have to pay on top of our price for food I'm tired of hearing the excuse of they don't make enough money to live on. They need tips. There's not many jobs out there where you have to pay the employees separately because the owners don't want to is there.

We have been here a couple of times in the past month or so and have loved every visit. The ambiance is so light and airy which I love - a great place to do work. It is always the same person taking our order and she is so kind and accommodating to all our questions and requests. The food is quick and delicious. Nothing over the top, but they do the basics well. We almost always get the bacon and avocado omelet and chicken apple sausage scramble when we go for breakfast. They have really good sweet potato fries too!

The food was great. This is somewhat of a self-serve place. Chalkboard menu, place your other at the register, get your own water, coffee, refreshments, condiments, tableware ... pay and then they'll bring the food out. I can't say much about the service l, because they delivered the did to the table and never came back. The ambiance would be better if the train wasn't running by every few minutes to rattle the nerves. It's a quaint big spot that's difficult to find due to lack of signage.

Definitely coming back! Okay first things first this was a spontaneous brunch trip turned my new hidden gem. After a morning at the farmers market my fam and I stopped by Cafe Bernardo for Brunch. I'm a first timer here so I had no expectations or previous knowledge which worked out better than expected. Ambiance is a classic downtown restaurant with an indoor / outdoor patio vibe. Modern interior decor, regular table and bar/ pub style seating options. I like that the restaurant provided lots of space and we were not too closely seated by other guests which is usually the case for downtown restaurants. I ordered the chorizo chilaquiles with my egg fried hard. Yes, I know the egg is supposed to be a little runny, just not on my plate. This was the best chilaquiles I've had in a while. Flavorful, cooked just right, and the salsa over the chips was sooooo good. I splashed a bit of hot sauce on top , but to be honest it was fine by itself. I washed my meal down with a moscow mule. Again, bomb! Refreshing and made just right. Yikes! I totally forgot our waitress name, but she was super nice, patient, and accommodating to all request. Overall, service was great. Food was not a long wait and prepared with no issues. Great job team! I'll definitely be back to try more items.
