Sarah S. "I have been taking my toddler here to the mommy and me class for a few months now. She has a great time. They have a pretty good variety of schedule options, and weekend options, which some other local gyms don't have. The teacher is consistent (as in, same teacher every time), and does a great job of working with the sometimes challenging toddler population. They do circuit style classes, so there is always a place to go and an activity to do. She does a great job of keeping the class moving. It is $62 a month for the baby class, and I think slightly more expensive as they move up. Make-up policy is reasonable - I think you have a month to schedule a make up class from your missed class. We have been happy so far."

The Sacramento Community Center maybe isn't as quaint as the theaters on Broadway in NYC but it still is a great place to see a show and it's all about the performance after all. The latest that I saw was Les Miserables, which is one of my favorite shows of all time."

Kenneth K. "Many thanks to our daughter winning tickets & inviting us to seeing Christmas Carol with them! It was both of our first time at this venue. We were able to park at the public multilevel parking garage across the street which was extremely convenient. We didn't take a chance on street parking which can be limiting bc of time constraints plus it didn't appear to be available anyway. The Main Street venue located on H street was perfect sized for this particular holiday show compared to other downtown venues. We highly recommend coming here. It was not a circular theater for the Christmas Carol show as this location used to be the former Music Circus location. The show itself was well done. It was a two hour show with a 20 minute intermission. There was a snack bar available although we didn't take advantage of that as we were limited on time. In fact our seats were in the back row in the left section & were all good for viewing the entire delightful holiday show! We would definitely return if we find another play or musical that would interest us. The Dorothy Puente one sounded fascinating. This large Sacramento Theatre professional company is actually nationally recognized. Can you believe it? This company has been founded since 1942 & has been organized officially in 1945. One of their STC alumni included Tom Hanks. We are certainly very fortunate & blessed to have this locally & not have to travel far for such local talent so support your local businesses!"

The staff is very friendly, helpful and personable. Shows tend to start on time which is nice, and no eating and drinking allowed in the theater, which helps eliminate external noise. Unlike many businesses, I noticed that Celebration Arts does an amazing job retaining staff (paid or volunteer). It's nice to come back for a new season and see familiar, friendly faces (good job Celebration Arts!). I hope A Raisin in the Sun comes back, and also wish patrons could submit suggestions on plays we'd like to see in Sacramento. Celebration Arts is my favorite playhouse, I try make every production each season. Sacramento, please support your local theater. It's a sweet gem we are blessed to have in the community."

Coffee is complimentary; if you want snacks (or if you're picky about your coffee), you should bring your own. They're friendly and low-key and you can usually stick around and talk with the performers if you'd like. For about the price of sitting in leftover popcorn at your average movie theater (if you factor in bringing your own snacks), you'll be able to see a live performance and brandish your feel-good badge for supporting local arts. Afterward, Temple Coffee & Tea - or Revolution Wines -- are just a 2-minute walk."

Michelle L. "Grateful to Broadway Sacramento and Music Circus for bringing national touring productions here. Yes, I will occasionally splurge on shows in San Francisco at the Orpheum, Curran, or Golden Gate Theaters but #HomeIsSacramento. Seeing Phantom of the Opera and Aida in NYC are what truly hooked me, but my first show in Sacramento was Les Miserables back in 2003/2004. I'm not a season ticketholder although I did tend to purchase 3-show packages when available or single shows via the $35 Under 35 Club. The best season ever was in 2008 when they still had 7 shows for Music Circus. A few times I was also lucky enough to have comp tickets to dress rehearsals of The Drowsy Chaperone and The Wiz as part of the Broadway Sacramento Ambassador program #InstaYelpaTweetaSnap or Wells Fargo friends (thanks, Gregg R.!). The Music Circus (summertime series) at the Wells Fargo Pavilion is my favorite especially because of the stage in-the-round audience layout -- every seat is a great seat and they're so creative with the sets and scene changes! It used to literally be a circus tent but it's a nice air-conditioned venue with plenty of restrooms, courtyard space, and subscriber's lounge. At Music Circus I've seen Annie, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, The Producers, Annie Get Your Gun, Miss Saigon, Disney's The Little Mermaid, South Pacific, My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, Sweeney Todd, Gypsy, Evita, Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act, Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Newsies, Singin' in the Rain, Swing, Hairspray, Dreamgirls...At the Broadway Series (fall/winter/spring, Community Center Theater/SAFE CU PAC) I've attended Chicago, Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, In The Heights, West Side Story, Wicked, Les Miserables, RENT, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Aladdin, Spring Awakening, Motown the Musical, Bodyguard the Musical, White Christmas, Disney's The Lion King, Kinky Boots, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Starlight Express, Avenue Q, Book of Mormon, Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton, Officer and a Gentleman, and Anastasia. Opening night is generally Tuesdays, and I'm partial to weeknight evening shows or matinee weekends if possible. At the Wells Fargo Pavilion, every seat is great like I said. At the SAFE CU PAC, you can choose the orchestra, lower balcony or upper balcony depending on your price range. Broadway Sacramento has wonderful offerings, a pretty good mix of older and newer shows, and I try to catch at least one show per season for Broadway Sac and Music Circus. Sometimes I will check out SF shows but also don't overlook great local community theater performances such as Green Valley Theatre Company, Davis Musical Theater, Woodland Opera House, or other venues like Harris Center at Folsom Lake College, Mondavi Center at UC Davis, Sacramento Theater Company, Black Box Theater West Sac, or Missouri Street (Fairfield) to get your fix."

I love that they have glass doors so you can see other students practicing everything from drums, to bass, to singing! As much as you'd think all of the noise could be a bit much, I actually found it relaxing and liked hearing all the different instruments. My daughter's singing coach (Cale) was very patient and kind and she left even more excited to join than when we arrived. When we left, the receptionist gave us a flyer with the pricing and class options for my daughter's age - I thought it was a bit steep at first, but it includes 8 classes a month - 2 a week - 1 one on one session for 30 minutes and 1 group lesson for an hour and a half. Everyone there was so nice and you can tell the coaches/teachers love their job and what they can offer to these kids! The coaches offer everything from bass, guitar, drum, singing, and even keyboard/piano. Between the acting and the artistic commitment of everyone who works here, this is a theater every local supporter of the arts must experience. I came down to watch "The Exit Interview," a "philosophical comedy" and mostly two person show. The setup is small and the theater seats roughly 40. You'd never know how small it is once the production begins because the expert staging, set dressing and acting make you feel like the venue is much larger. The show was a hit and received a standing ovation. Mama Kim's, an acclaimed restaurant I have yet to visit, is located right in front so you could easily make an evening out of dinner and a show. Sabrina B. "This is a tough venue for musical stage performances. The floor is one level (maybe VERY slightly inclined) so floor seats can be challenging for shorter people. Also, the seats on the floor are temporary and installed with no continuity - the space between rows varies from not even inches to almost a foot. The row behind us had room for people to place full handbags between the seats. Our row barely allowed us to shuffle sideways. The signage isn't great for floor seats since they aren't permanent. The acoustics were decent and the stage itself was well done. The set has elaborate screens and those were visible at all angles and done well. There were no ushers handing out programs so we actually sat down before realizing we would need to head back out to the lobby to pick up our programs. The bathrooms were a challenge too. There were multi-stall portables located outside of the building. When I stopped into them after the show (the lines were too bad at intermission) they were locked. Why would you lock a bathroom without allowing patrons a chance to use them before exiting? We didn't purchase any food or drinks so I can't speak to the quality but at intermission, when heading to the restroom, the lines looked long as usual. No idea how fast they moved. I can't wait until the remodel is done and we can return to our normal venue. I would hesitate to attend another performance here unless I had no other place to see the performance."

Grabbed a vanilla chai tea latte (although the spiced chai tea latte is just as good) from Cafe La Boutique (La Bou), which we were free to take inside the theater as well. The second floor boasted a Sunshine Deck and beautiful "Fluttering Canopy" glass art piece above the main stairwell. Restrooms downstairs with plenty of signage so you couldn't miss them very clean. The Black Box Theatre itself could seat about 125 people max capacity, seats were comfortable (but not the norm cushioned folding type) for the ~2 hour show. Very intimate setting, absolutely perfect for the puppeteering (should I say, Muppeteering?) in Avenue Q, with actors utilizing the onset stage as well as the aisles and exits. Not sure where the orchestra was hiding, although I'm pretty sure there was a live orchestra, hah. Two flatscreens included for the show, not sure if those are normally part of the performance space. They have new band performance groups every few months and that gives the students a way to explore different genres of music, as well as getting to know some of the other students there. The only thing that I would suggest is to allow the kids to suggest songs for the Performance groups that they sign up for to feel as if they have a little input on what they are playing. Michelangelo S. "Exquisite Creative Interpretation of Shakespeare's "The Tempest"SITREPI got to enjoy the show with my friend Larissa J. - a HUUUGE fan of the "Cirque du Soleil"-brand w- and what we watched, heard and experienced in total, was a very beautiful story of shipwrecked lives, but transformed by love found in an exotic paradise of wonders & whimsy.THE SETUPThis incarnation of "AMALUNA" is part of the touring show that started in San Francisco in late 2013 and has now migrated over the years until now here at Raley's field in West Sacramento (home of our AAA-team the "River Cats"). AMALUNA CREATIONFrom the great minds of Cirque du Soleil, AMALUNA premiered in Montréal, Canada, on April 19, 2012, created by Diane Paulus, one of the few Americans to rise high in the ranks of the Cirque de Soleil production realm. Diane became Artistic Director of Theater & Opera of the American Repertory Theater (ART) at Harvard University in 2009, but she is probably best know recently for her nomination for the Best Director Tony Award for her revival of the musical "Hair".Diane and her hubby Randy Weiner co-founded a small theater troupe in New York City called "Project 400 Theatre Group". Here they created avant-garde musical productions which merged classic theater and modern music, and their FIRST production was a rock version of Shakespeare's, "The Tempest". The scouts of Cirque de Soleil looking for good source material from contemporary theater stumbled upon this gem and - flash forward some years - had her make an entire AMALUNA themed Cirque de Soleil event also loosely based upon this Shakespearean classic!THE AMALUNA STORYThe AMALUNA story takes place on an island governed by moon goddesses ("Ama" = Mothers; "Luna" = Moon). During a storm, there is a shipwreck and several men are washed up to this beautiful Island Paradise. One of the divinity's daughter falls in love with one of the young men, and the trials that their love must endure make for the interesting chapters of contest that this production is all about.FUN AMALUNA FACTS* I loved how the central part of the AMALUNA stage platform was like a giant daisy wheel (lazy Susan) that allowed it to revolve like a suspended carousel. It is 25-feet diameter and weighs 6,000 pounds.* Other than the AMALUNA carousel, the set design has very few moving parts allowing for focus to be on the performers.* There are 174 branches in 534 sections (90 in the canopy and 84 upstage) making a total of 1.1 mile of branches.* The upper tent-top grid - that suspended all of the AMALUNA aerial artists and from whence wonders of light and shimmering beauty were dropped upon the staged - weighs 8,600 pounds and includes three acrobatic winches, each able to lift loads up to 400 pounds at 10 feet per second. And in fact, I WAS amazed at how fast those 3 beautiful AMALUNA Moon goddesses shot up so fast to the center of upward top! (There was also a cynical part of me that kept imagining, "Christ. What if that beast of a mechanism accidentally gets "unbolted" and crashes down to center stage?!? But luckily THAT never happened)* The center AMALUNA acrobatic winch in the middle of the carousel can lift up to 1,000 pounds at 10 feet per second, and this certainly was tested when the Queen Lunar goddess invited the vocalist-cellist to sit amidst with her in her"Sliver of Moon" and play for the Island denizons.* And how about that giant AMALUNA Fishbowl? The bowl part alone is 5 feet 5 inches tall, 7 feet 3 inches in diameter, and weighs 5,500 pounds when filled with water. But that was a beautiful scene when the moon daughter and the shipwrecked sailor acrobatically seduce each other atop, aside and INSIDE the fishbowl. I LOVE it all.LE COMEDYI almost feel guilty calling these talented individuals "clowns", but the talented duet - one a denizon female of the Island, the other the shipwrecked captain - find their OWN passion amidst very humorous scenarios that act as timed pieces to allow the aerial and acrobatic performers to rest up, grab a water, change costume, and than "have at it" again on the stage.REFRESHMENTS!You expect drinks and munchies to be a BIT more expensive when at special events, like games, shows and *pop-up* tents like this, right? But even with each of our $14 beers https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=wAuHQGXB5Wfyu05B6xxWbQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w..and our $6 gummy bears, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=iyCFy90JlxVVbsxnnIaAUA&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w..we were still caught up in the magic and whimsy of the moment and it was worth it.THE LOWDOWNAMALUNA is a beautiful, majestic, and exquisitely exotic themed event that will dazzle you with it's beauty and love of aerial performances, exciting dances & lively music!"

Erich L. "Good venue in downtown Sacramento. I went for the grinch musical. Fun performance! This place has a lot of seats and they are pretty spacious, which tall people like me can use and have some space. Everything is organized and clean including the bathrooms. Make sure you check for restaurant discounts if you're going out nearby."

Jenny P. "I've seen multiple shows put on by the Actor's Workshop of Sacramento this year and would absolutely recommend them for future shows! I haven't taken lessons from them personally, but my best friend currently is, and is benefitting from it tremendously. I just saw her as Peter Quince in their production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, which was delightful. This show still has two weekends left to go if you want to check it out! You won't see my friend as she's headed to NYC, but they double cast several of the roles, so no worries there. So why should you see this show? If you haven't seen it before, it's a must. It is the most enchanting and entertaining of Shakespeare's comedies. You don't even have to be a fan of or have a base knowledge of Shakespeare to enjoy this play. It has a ton of visual humor, gorgeous costumes, hilarious moments, and characters with big personalities. Their production includes people of all ages, including children. My favorite performances were those of Peter Quince (yes that's bias on my part), Puck, Oberon, Cobweb, and of course, Bottom. The entire company was brilliant and I laughed so hard I cried at one point. The costumer also did a fabulous job on the whimsical ensembles. Sooo many fairy lights!!! I'm glad I got to tell her so in person. :-)Tickets will cost you $20 if you want to see this show during its run through October. (Students and Seniors can get in for $18.) October 4-13, shows will be once a day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm. The Actor's Workshop utilizes a couple different theatres in the complex on R street, so do be sure you know which theatre your show is located in. If you plan to see AMND the next two weekends it's running, it's located on the California Stage that faces the train tracks on R street. I've also been here for Actor's Workshop Stay, Carl Stay and The Audience, among other short plays, and they have all been excellent. Parking is available unmetered on R street and on 25th and 26th streets as well. They sell wine during shows with a $3 suggested donation per cup. We had a choice of two reds and two whites today. Very nice touch!"
