"I came to this place to try a free women's self-defense class and liked it so much, i ended up signing up for their 4 week self defense series, which they offered for $69. The teachers for this class are all women, and they are all bad-ass. Really liked what they taught and while I hope I never have to use it, thought it was a good investment. Hope they will continue to offer the series in the future. As part of the package, I was able to try out their Boxing class and Gi Jiu Jitsu classes, both of which i really liked. I've never done Jiu Jitsu before, it was pretty intense cardio workout, and The gym is very spacious and offer diverse classes from Crossfit, Muy Thai kickboxing, yoga, etc, there's something for everyone! The bathrooms are clean and there's a sauna room available."
"My grandson attends classes at least twice a week and is progressing very rapidly. The teachers are excellent and great with the kids. They enjoy learning and it is evident that they are having a lot of fun while learning. I recommend that if you have a child/grandchild that wants to learn martial arts, bring him/her to one of the classes and check it out. Classes are held daily. Call for available times."
"This place is awesome for kids who want to learn how to wrestle. I have 2 daughters who have improved tremendously since coming here. They have a new location, which is much nicer with a lot more room than before. We checked out two other kids' programs in the area. MatTime hands down has more kids and better coaching. I wish there was more consistency as the assistant coaches seem to rotate a lot. However, this program is still the best in the area."
"What shall I say? This is a great place to have your child build social skills, confidence, coordination, good health and culture. The traditions of the modality is very authentic and also people that learn are from all likes of ages. From early toddlers to older adults. You have a choice of Choi Li Fut or Tai Chi. You can simply learn both if you want.I have seen children in a few months become confident and also focused. Meet the teachers and they will assist you any way they can on any questions."
"If I could give this place more starts I would. Joining Joes Fitness Revolution has been nothing but greatness. We love that we can make it a family thing. The kids get to take Karate while we get our work out on with the trainers. If you join JFR you won't be disappointed."
"This review is for the Safe in the city series - it's a 12 week series self defense class for womenThey also occasionally offer 2 hour free class (check on eventbrite) if you want to get a flavor first.Sensei Oliver is a great instructor, going step by step, we practice with other classmates and then with him so you get a more realistic sense. Not only does sensei Oliver teach self defense, he also talks about what predators are looking for and how to present yourself so not to be a weak target.Studio - awesome space, good lighting, plenty of street parking nearbyI highly recommend the program."
"I've always feared of being put in a situation where I'm unable to defend myself or my family. I came to this school through a recommendation of a coworker after sharing my interest of wanting to learn self defense.I was invited to participate in a trial lesson and was hooked immediately. All the teachers are very respectful and patient with all the students no matter the age. Every teacher seems to have this calmness and confidence about them that you just have to admire. They emmitt this very positive energy that is very contagious and just makes want to be part of the team. They really take the time to encourage every student and commend them on every accomplishment. I can see myself doing this for the rest of my life, which is why it really didn't shock me when I found out that they had students that had been attending Reid's for more than twenty years. This place is a game changer and I highly recommend it to anyone that has a interest in starting self defense."
"A little bit of time has past. A ton of progress and life's changed. I am profoundly grateful for Professor and his beautiful and inspiring atmosphere he creates for his students. For the Young, or young at heart. His guidance is spiritual and at times hypnotic for my son. His teaching brings joy and a bit of peace to my lovely little family. I do not participate in his classes, but his impact on my son has been remarkable. My son is more confident, focused, and smiles. Looks forward to class, reminds of the dates and time. I am Passionate about this beautiful art because it is helping repair damage and lends hope that all will be ok in the end. And if it's not ok, it just means it not the end."
"Our son started karate here toward the end of this last school year. He has always been reluctant to try new activities and can be quite the handful at times when it comes to consistency. He ended up enjoying it so we signed him up for the summer camp as well. He was the same way with summer camp, and it was rough at first but he kept saying how much he loves karate. Today, weeks into the program his behavior is at an all time best. He responds "yes ma'am, yes sir" - his social skills are blooming more than ever. EVERY day he is excited to go here. He talks so highly of his coaches and sensei Johnny as well as Seh ssung Doyle. He has made a lot of new friends and is truly thriving. I highly recommend K3Maga. It's worth every dollar and the positive behavioral changes, self discipline and self defense are all added bonuses for your child! This place has even taught me a valuable lesson as a parent, never let your child quit and don't give up. Staying persistent is key. Thanks K3 for all you do!"
"My daughter continues to attend WOTW and is now a grey belt in ji jitsu. She continues to thrive and is on the sparring team, and participates in different tournaments, most recently doing kick boxing. Highly recommend WOTW to help develop discipline and focus."
"So pleased with our experience at Kuk Sool Won. We joined while they were offering daily Zoom and weekend distanced in-person class offerings and were instantly welcomed to the Kuk Sool Won family. Teacher Tiffany is just amazing, and the whole teaching staff is great with the kids and they are able to get the class to listen and focus but still have fun. My son absolutely loved punching the bags and learning the various combinations. He feels comfortable and confident, the teachers are reassuring and go out of their way to encourage him, I can't say enough about KSW!"
"I've been training in Aikido around 8 years. In that time, I've trained at and visited a number of dojos. There's definitely a gamut of styles. While it's not my primary dojo at the moment, due to living in Berkeley, there's nothing like training at Tenshin Dojo with Sensei Calderon. I try to make it once a month. The training is fun, challenging, intense and illuminating. I say "illuminating" cause the techniques are more effective than what is taught at a lot of other schools/dojos and the training teaches one a lot about himself/herself. You want to deflect or respond to a punch effectively? You'll learn that at this dojo. And one of the most beautiful things about Aikido is that it helps you learn to stay calm and relaxed. Strength and anger are actually hindrances to the art form. That's why it is called "The Art of Peace."I can't say enough about Sensei Calderon either. He has a unique style he is passionately sharing with the world. Those who are able to train with him are truly fortunate and lucky. He is as talented an Aikidoka as I've seen and a nice guy and human being, as well. Get on the mat and give it a try."

I absolutely love this gym! It's so good, I drive all the from Elk Grove just to come here ! It's very CLEAN, which Is important to me . Everyone who comes to workout is respectful of putting their equipment away and wiping it down after use . They offer sooooooo many classes for parents and kids ! If my work schedule didn't conflict with the kids classes , I'd definitely bring my son to train for BJJ. LaQisha, Britney and the other staff who work up front are super friendly! The coaches who instruct the classes like Darren , Sandra , Jordan , Nick , Avery and Joel are extremely helpful ! I know I look like an idiot, trying to keep up but they ALWAYS help me with proper form and keep me motivated with no judgment ! Thanks UF!

These guys moved to a new state of the art facility and the atmosphere is outstanding. My son went there for his wrestling all season this year, and actually enjoyed wresting for the first time! They mix it up and do a great job keeping the kids engaged. The BJJ is top notch as well. They have a little more emphasis in the no gi, but also have traditional gi classes as well (taught by Cassio Werneck black belt Mark). He's elite, and you will have fun while learning, and dare I say.... getting in shape!

I can't say enough how wonderful this dojo is. We started a few years back when my son was 4 from the recommendation of a friend. We took a bit of a break due to scheduling, but I always knew when we started up again, we would only come back to Zen Martial Arts with Sensi Oliver. Sensi Oliver has an amazing way with these kids focusing on respect (for yourself and others), composure, how to handle bullying, how to make sure you're using your karate skills correctly (not on others), etc. He also encourages kids to do community outreach projects, helping them to think outside themselves. Along with the traditional aspects of this dojo, Sensi also really has fun with the kids. With the younger classes (my son is 6, so I don't know about the older classes) there are games played that the kids love. He really gains the respect and admiration of the kids and parents. If you're looking for something flashy, this isn't the dojo for you. But, if you want an experience that can be traced back to original traditions, this is what you want.

"You can go a lot of places for martial arts training, but what really sets KSMY apart is the instruction of Ma'am My. She has a gift for meeting people where they're at, whether young or old, very athletic and flexible or not so much. She is firm with her critiques but always encouraging and positive. One of the best things about KSMY and Ma'am My is the expectation of respect and care for the other students. This is not a confrontational martial arts school, and even in sparring the focus is foremost on learning from (not beating up or hurting) your opponent. Injuries, when they happen, are taken seriously, and Ma'am My modifies all the forms and techniques to accommodate injuries. If you're looking for a fun and empowering place to work out, or training in the martial arts that is respectful and positive, definitely check out KSMY!"
"An amazing place for traditional martial arts. I received my first Dans in Tae Kwon Do & Hap Ki Do from Grand Master Lee and Master Alex. I strongly recommend to anyone who is thinking about trying it! (:"
"This family owned establishment is Amazing!!! Jung and his lovely wife Anna are the owners of this Martial Arts School, they are very welcoming and loving. They are very knowledgeable, professional and very friendly.I love how they motivate the kids they keep them engaged by incorporating fun ways to learn karate, the front of their establishment has big open windows, the lighting is great a big and spacious floor planed area to spar and the kids have lots of space to kick, punch without having to be to close to each other, they also have one restroom. We came here for a Birthday party and it was so much fun, all the kids had a blast. They played games and did an obstacle course, the Birthday Girl and Boy gave a wonderful demonstration on all the karate moves they learned. Their form was impressive and you can tell their instructors taught them well, I will be bringing my kids back for a trial they offer to see if they are a fit for your family and let me tell you they already felt like they were after meeting them just once, Im positive my kids will want to sign up and become students for sure lol. With such upbeat personalities and kindness you should definitely give this Family owned business a try with the 2 week trial i say it's worth it for sure and if you don't feel it's a fit no strings attached, but i promise your Family will love it!!! Support this small family owned business they are great people."
"The team at Warrior Martial Arts have really helped our son grow so much over the past year and a half. Not only are they teaching martial arts they are teaching life skills, how to handle bullying, and overcoming obstacles in life. Shun Shifu Smith, Mrs. Kristie, Shifu Lindsey and all the helpers, truly care for all of the students and want to see them succeed. If you are looking for a martial arts school for your kids, this is the place!*updated review*We have been with Warrior Martial Arts for 2 years now. My son is in the legacy class and competition team. I love how there are opportunities for him to grow and learn new things! He is now a Jr. Coach and the skills that is teaching him are priceless!"
"I've trained with members of Aikido Institute Davis several times and have been impressed every time. There is always something to learn from their members. YouTube them and you'll see what I'm talking about."
"A dojo where students and Senseis are honored with respect. Great camaraderie, supportive families, and teaching discipline and commitment. Students of all ages are encouraged from early grade school to the mature adult. Classes are offered according to skill level Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Training for competition or for your personal best inspires students to work hard, never give up, follow through, and strive high. The physical, mental, and emotional commitment goes a long way beyond the work out mats. Students take these lessons through life in their studies, jobs, relationships, and personal growth. Come out and experience a lifestyle that is time honored, internationally recognized for the physical and mental attributes, competitive and great fun."
"I felt more family vibes in this gym than a Fast and the Furious movie. From the very first convo with the trainer, Iggy, to joining and finishing my first class, the respect and welcome in this gym is 10/10. Will definitely be coming back regularly."
"I train there and the instructors volunteer their time and are focused on traditional karate training. They encourage students and push to show their students that they can achieve their goals."
"We moved to Rocklin around a year ago, and Joey and the team have been fantastic for my son. They've really helped him gain confidence in a new environment all while maintaining a great level of fitness. He has also enjoyed the fun days they throw and has taken both my daughter and some of his other friends. I couldn't recommend them highly enough."
"I love DFMA. It's a family-friendly, LBGT-friendly, supportive, encouraging environment with skilled, compassionate, and challenging instructors. If you're looking for testosterone-cage-fighting-ubermacho-peeing-contests, you might be happier at another establishment. If you're looking for a fun, hard workout with interesting folks, this is your place. If you're looking to give your kids basic self-defense skills to keep them safe from abduction or other harm, this is your place. Before I started my training at DFMA, I hadn't been able to stick with a workout for more than one or two months. After four months at DFMA, I feel stronger, safer, and more confident. I've lost weight. I've gained muscle. And I have a great way to work off stress at the end of each day."
"My family had been looking for an authentic martial arts studio for awhile and we're very happy to have found G-Elite. They specialize in Korean Kuk Sool Hapkido and adds in other styles Sir Glynn (master) has picked up along his decades of learning including self-defense forms, joint locks, breathing, flexibility, and forms.G-Elite teaches their students to defend and fight and this is not just to look fancy and build up false confidence like many other schools these days. Furthermore, Belt progression is based on skill and knowledge and not how much the student has been paying. The parking is plentiful and the cost is reasonable. My family appreciated the lessons and found them useful and concentrated. It wasn't convenient for our own hectic schedule but maybe in the future we'll return when we have more time in our own lives.Note: the studio is in a warehouse and it could get very hot in the summer and cold in the winter."
"My son has been attending Savage Roots for approximately 1 year now and he enjoys going each time. Slowly but surely he's progressed for the better from his initial practice. I encourage you to attend a practice with your son or daughter and see what it's all about."
"I love love going here. Always a good workout and Gil works with me, on every workout I do even not just boxing also teach me how to proper do the workout. I'm always here Tuesday and Friday. It's a bit far from my house but I never regret going here always going home happy and accomplished. I recommend this gym to all looking to be strong. It's been a month and it's good so far. Gil is a good coach and made it fun to workout. So far so good . Next time I'll update and post a video of it next time."
"This place changed my children for the better. They learn about the importance of discipline, self confidence, respect, hard work, and more. My boys love it! They only need to go twice a week but the small human would go every day if we had the time. The messages of the week are great and I always smile when they recite them or talk about the messages at the dinner table or with each other. I haven't even touched on the actual martial arts training. It has been great for their overall conditioning and strength. If you have been curious, go during one of their trial/buddy weeks that happen regularly. I can almost guarantee you or your child will want to join soon thereafter."
"my little girl has been going to this dojo for a little over a month now and both of us are extremely happy with the sensei and the overall environment.they really do focus on the spiritual aspect of aikido and i like this a lot. it is very relaxing each and every time i watch my girl practice and it keeps her grounded and adds a positive balance to our busy and sometimes hectic lives. i waited a while to get my daughter involved in an extracirricular activity, mainly due to my finances, but also because i always knew that i wanted her to be involved in something that taught more than just physical skills, i want her to pick up some life skills as well, and this center has delivered in that particular department. we will be coming here, i predict, for a long time to come.thanks for reading, all:)"
"I find myself in the area often enough and I wanted to learn something different. I checked out a few other places and settled on Red Dragon. The atmosphere is nice and the people are genuine. I appreciate everyone's patience since I'm a total newbie. If you're concerned about being embarrassed, don't. They take the time to make sure you learn rather than just going through the motions."
"This gym is a great place to train and learn the history of the art. The instructors are very motivated and knowledgeable. The intensity of training depends on how hard you choose to push yourself. The tuition is very reasonable compared to other martial arts establishments. The gym has a very family friendly atmosphere."
"I'll keep this review brief:TAKE ZUMBA WITH V! I have done Zumba all over the country and V is, by far, the best instructor I've ever had. She doesn't really break down the moves for you, you just need to jump in and try. But expect high energy, professional level choreography, and hip-shakin' music. I love the diversity of students, including a range of ages and body types. There is no shame in this room! And the class is only $5!!!i don't live in Sacramento, but whenever I visit Sacramento, I make sure to attend a class. LOVE V!!"
"We have been NorCal Sport Jujitsu and Judo for 2 years now and are more than satisfied with the training we get. The instructors are accomplished and experts at what they do and teach. They're enthusiastic and patient. What they teach is practical and very applicable. I can see my son's confidence and skill/technique improve with each judo tournament he competes in. I would highly recommend this school to any that ask."
"I've been a member of this school since 1998 and my time there has been incredibly rewarding. They offer both adult and children's jujitsu classes throughout the week, as well as an annual course in massage certification. There are no contracts associated with attending class and the monthly dues are extremely reasonable for the high quality instruction that is given. I have my own kids involved with the children's program and they can't stop talking about how much fun they have when they are there. The adult classes are focused on learning basic rolling and falling technique, then progresses to learning joint manipulation, escapes, and throwing techniques. If you want to learn a little bit of everything in a traditional martial arts setting, this is a wonderful place to do it at."
"To be perfectly honest, this place kind of looks like a dump, so if you need your jiu jitsu school to look shiny, squeaky, and like the cover of a magazine, turn around and look elsewhere, because you won't find that here. Facilities are minimal - just a run down room with some mats in an old industrial complex. What you will find is one of the few black belts awarded in America by Rickson Gracie. Rickson was big on the basics, so we try to focus on traditional, fundamental Brazilian jiu jitsu and self defense, not the sport/tournament style. (Not that's there anything wrong with that, it's just a different approach.) I've been training here 6 years now, and we've got a really solid crew built up. As long as you have a good attitude and are willing to put in the effort, the mats are wide open for you. We're also very informal here, no titles, no bowing, lining up in ranks, etc. Respect, definitely, just not through formalities, and I prefer it that way. Lastly, rates are very affordable, lower than any other BJJ school I've seen, plus discounts for doing automatic transfers, and no contracts or fees."
"August 9, 2014To Whom It May Concern:My two teenage children, ages 16 and 14, have been active participants at Academy of Marital Arts in Sacramento (AMAS), CA and under Sensei Emil Valdes' instructions since September 2008. There are six colored belts before reaching the first degree black belt rank, but it takes nine dedicated levels to get there. After four years, my son was able to reach his first degree black belt, or DAN ranking, and took my daughter five years. As a proud parent of two black belts, I am happy that both of my children have endured persistent and consistent training that Mr.Valdes provides daily. Both have learned what it takes to study as a black belt and continues to learn everyday thereafter. When my children first started, I knew this Shotokan karate is different and more traditional vs. most dojo studios out there. Mr. Valdes was always patient and explained why Shotokan is not as "commercialized" as other places. Therefore, my children not only learn discipline and values that are expected from martial arts, but I felt confident that they were learning an authentic discipline. Another important factor to choosing AMAS was that I wanted my children's belts to be recognized outside of their own dojo. Mr. Valdes confirms that AMAS is also part of ISKF, or International Shotokan Karate Federation, where they are recognized internationally. Lastly, AMAS dojo has a family-style atmosphere where I feel safe for my children to grow and thrive with confidence."
"Eagle Claw is a rare and complete system of Kung Fu. By complete I mean that it has everything from striking to joint locking to throwing and takedowns and forms training. What is great about the Sacramento School is that classes are taught based on a traditional approach that is tested and true. You will get stronger, more coordinated and learn self defense skills at the same time. If you have interest in martial arts for health or self defense, Eagle Claw is a great system for you and Sifu Melliza is a great teacher."
