"The curry was freaking delicious and fairly priced. Unfortunately the main problem here is, um well, how do I put this nicely. But let's just say your car may get broken into when it's dark, like high probability. This restaurant sits on the corner of Broadway and Stockton. There's just a lot of homeless people walking around. Me and my partner ate inside at night at like 6pm when it was dark, and straight up we saw some "sketchy" people. The parking lot is super small, so that does not help. Also next to this place is a "smoke shop." This area is just not good and there have been a lot of failed businesses on this corner. The food was good, but gosh the location is just SUPER SUPER sketchy. Also, I don't really like the Indian Afgan and Chinese options. I would say just choose a culture and be great at it rather than a jack of all trades master of none situation."
"Very delicious donair shop ran by father and son. The chicken donair was so good! It was packed with fresh veggies, chicken, hummus and sauces. I am a sauce-driven eater, so I thrilled when they dropped off squeeze bottles of hot sauce and garlic sauce with our meals. We loved the food and service. The indoor seating area was very clean and suitable for a fast meal.Highly recommend this fine establishment for a very tasty and fresh meal."
"Feeling like having some Kabob? Well, look no further! This place in my opinion has the best Kabob! It's so good that I forgot to take any pictures of it because we were so excited to eat. It comes with 2 large pieces of Kabob when compared to others similar places around Elk Grove. But it's not just larger, the flavor is on point. This place is located in the Post Office Parking lot. They don't do dine in anymore, so keep that in mind when ordering from here. This is a family run place. I usually see only 2 people taking orders and cooking. It's cool watching them cook their food right in front of you. They have nothing to hide. You see all your kabobs getting cooked right there, freshly made! When you want some Kabob, definitely try this place out!"
"Please give this place a try! Their samosas are the best I've ever had and the chicken kabob was excellent and so flavorful. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside, clean and the service was friendly and fast. Will definitely be back!"
"Family run and fresh food. We had the gyro and the afghani salad (which has a yummy cilantro and jalapeño dressing). The service and food were very fast as well."
"This restaurant is a hidden JEWEL in Sacramento! The food tasted like it was made in heaven. Humbling people, great portions, and affordable prices...It does NOT get better than this. Seriously, every Sacramento foodie must try this place!"
"This Afghanistan/Middle Eastern market and Restaurant has been on my list to check out for quite some time. I made it here to shop for some sauce for my chicken after finding the India-Fiji Market nearby is closed on Mondays. I didn't find the exact sauce I was seeking, but that's ok. I scored yummy bread and scoped out a new spot.Parking lot is small, but there were a couple of spaces available. The market's dry good shelving were in disarray and it felt a bit on the worn down side of things, but that's part & parcel for many truly authentic ethnic markets & restaurants so I take it with a grain of salt. On the other hand, the bulk dried fruit and meat counter were spick and span. Nice enough price for lamb, $6.99/lb, but I didn't try this time.Daily after 5:00 pm you'll find a solid gathering of people waiting for the fresh Afghani flat bread. Your wait will be about 15 minutes at peak time. The bread is absolutely delicious and it's similar to naan in shape but also has a sourdough flavor. Cost is $1.99. Be sure to let it cool before you place it in the giant plastic bag. Consider carefully tearing a couple of air holes in the bag, too. Consume quickly as it doesn't keep well beyond 24 hours. TBD if it holds up to freezing. My Iraqi friend says I'll likely need to toast it. That'd be alright.I'll update my thread once I've tried he restaurant in back. A former coworker of mine that I feel has reliable taste said she loves it. I look forward to trying it."
"This is my first time at the Afghan Ice Cream and Grill. I stop by this place on the way home. Food: is made fresh to order. I ordered the afghan burger with a beef sausage and fries, and the Bolani (a must get)I also ordered an afghan icecream - it was delicious; it was creamy with chunks. It has cardamom and nuts in it, which was a nice touch. Ambiance: very trendy and clean. Good amount of seating. Would be nice if they had music. Service: everyone was so nice and helpful!I would definitely come back!"
"I asked just about every question I could (which speaks highly of the service, they are happy to answer any question) about the menu and decided to go with the traditional Afghani cuisine. Everything we had, was absolutely DELICIOUS!"

To be sure, for me, the dicey parking situation is almost enough to keep me away BUT, I'm so glad I didn't let it! This is my second time here, but it has been a while. The food is tasty and well prepared and offers a great variety of options from snacks to entrees and desserts. The service was good and the room is large and comfortable and can accommodate small groups or families easily. There is also an electronic billboard that showcases some of the foods and is behind the counter. I began with panipuri as an appetizer. How does one describe these most delicious crispy cups of chutney, potato and chick pea? Just DELICIOUS and fun to eat! I enjoyed them so much. There are 6 pieces to an order and designed to share. But it was only me and I enjoyed each one of the six (maybe why I had so much of my entree to take home!)I ordered Lamb Saag. The portion is enough for a second meal, if alone. I actually ended up having 2 meals at home with the remainder. The lamb saag(spinach) was tasty and the meat was quite tender and spiced just right for me. I asked for less spice and was happy with what I got. The rice was separately priced but a large portion. I ordered the plain naan which proved a wonderful accompaniment for scooping the lamb. It was flaky, hot and tasty!I am already planning a return with my niece for our September monthly luncheon outing. They also offer Chinese and Afghani dishes. Perhaps I'll try their Afghani fare next time. I like Afghani food too. Do yourself a favor when in the area and enjoy a meal here. If you like Indian food, I don't think you can go wrong.

Ordered the mixed donair, somosas and fries. All were amazing. The donair is massive and well worth the price. Super clean inside and amazingly friendly owner. I'll be coming back soon!

How did I not write a review for this place yet?I live in Honolulu but my sister and her husband took me while I was visiting. In May and then again in June!Their Bolani Bread was awesome! I don't know what's in it but it's so good. They also have a dish with eggplant and a yogurt sauce that I really enjoyed. Their sauces are so good! And there's a dumpling that was good too. This place is on my must visit when in town list.I just ate there again. Please patronize this local small business. They are such nice people with great service! They don't have done in anymore because well, good help is hard to find and keep.

Came here last week with some friends. I did not know what to expect since I had never had Afghan food before. I had ordered the chicken Biryani. The food smelled delicious and was very tasty too. My friends had ordered the Bolani, a vegetarian flat dough that kind of looks like quesadillas and the Mantoo, which are filled dumplings. Not only did those dishes look good but also were tasty. Everybody was happy.I was surprised that the restaurant was quite empty for a Friday night. I really hope more people will try it.The food truly is a delight for the taste buds and eyes. Beautiful presentation and a bouquet of flavors!

I haven't been here since the pandemic. I was hoping it was still as good as before and as far as I know, it is still as good as before.I heard the ownership has changed but the folks I interacted with were all very nice and patient with our large group of 12.I even picked up a box of desert on my way out.

They have all things I needed. I like breads and meet. Customer service is good and they are polite. Store is big enough but maybe they need more organization. But like this store for shopping. Especially breed.

"Great place for inexpensive Persian/Afghan food! We ordered the mixed grill platter, lamb shank, eggplant, and ghormeh sabzi. Our favorite was the beef koobideh! They brought out a huge bowl of bread which paired well when dipped with the eggplant and sabzi. The lamb shank was tender and juicy. Service was friendly and welcoming. The place is a little hidden. The restaurant was clean and open. We would definitely come back again!"
"Loved Halal meat selection and other Eid supplies, very attentive and courteous staff, very clean premises. Some sticker shock on meat prices $2.49 per pound for chicken legs and thighs!"
"We dropped by for lunch and noticed that most people seem to take their food to go, and while they do offer the option to dine in which is what we opted for, I think take out would have been better. There is a nice lady at the register where people place their take out order and she also serves the tables. The way their system is set up she needs to go in the back to help with the orders and she wasn't around at times when we needed something, so service is something that can be improved. We ordered lamb kebob with rice which was good, expect a couple of pieces that had strings of fat and we hard to chew. The koufte was tasty and soft and the rice tasted great. The portions for the meat were small for the price in my opinion. I left with bittersweet taste, I wanted to love this place, but unfortunately it did not meet my expectations."
"Superb, authentic Afghani food! This evening was my first time ordering from the restaurant. I ordered mixed bolani (flatbread stuffed with spiced potato-leek filling, served with a distinctive spicy-sour dipping sauce I've never encountered before), qabili pallow (a delicate long-grain rice with carrots, raisins, and slow-cooked lamb), four beef samosas, and a chicken gyro. They will ask if you want your food spicy or not, and both the bolani and samosas had complex layers of spice and a nice heat (since I did request spicy - which they honored even though I am a white guy! ). The gyro was generously crammed. My wife and I stuffed ourselves and still have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow. All that came out to just under $50. When they ran my card, there was no tip prompt (and I unfortunately didn't think of it until I looked at my receipt later)!I got my food to go, but it looks like the dining room seats 40 or 50 people. It looked like all the tables and chairs (stackable auditorium-style chairs) were moveable to accommodate larger parties. No booths. The service was unique in my experience:When I first came in, the proprietor was in conversation with other customers in Dari (?) so I browsed the market: lots of semi-exotic spices, cookware, dishes, dried beans, noodles, dried fruit, rugs, propane burners (big enough to brew beer or deep fry a turkey), flashy cheap-looking jewelry (though I didn't look at the prices), dresses, sandals (men's and women's), and unusual (and ordinary) beverages (not beer, wine, or liquor, but Kvass as well as sodas with flavors like ginseng and basil seed) and potato chips (Tiger brand tomato flavor, among others).I was a little confused about placing my order: there is a sign saying "order here" over the soda coolers; there is a deli-style counter with a blank menu-board overhead and boxes behind it instead of a customer-service representative; and the kitchen staff (the kitchen is past the boxes behind the deli counter) don't speak English. But someone had posted a photo of a delicious-looking plate earlier in the day, so I knew the restaurant was operational.I confirmed with the proprietor at the market register that they were taking orders for dinner. He has recently ordered menus, which haven't come back from the printer yet, but thankfully they come up in Google Search. There are three pages, but I initially only saw two. I put in my order (they don't have all menu items available everyday, so be aware that you may need to have backups), which the proprietor delivered to the kitchen staff, then - after apologizing that it would take 20-30 minutes to prepare the order (although I recognize that making good food takes time), he SAT ME DOWN NEXT TO HIM FOR A CUP OF TEA AND A CHAT, kind of like an old-school barbershop! (He shared that this is a part of his cultural tradition, but verified with me that I wouldn't prefer to wait in silence with my smartphone to keep me company.) His citizenship interview is coming up, and he and his family have found Sacramento a welcoming community. I was pleased to hear that from a new American, who helped our troops in the "war on terror."Once the food was ready, he walked it out to the car with me. He also pointed out that the parking-spaces were newly-repainted (they are marked nice and clearly!).DoorDash and UberEats will soon be available, but honestly I enjoyed the change of pace of having a cup of tea and a chat. And once again - most importantly - the food was delicious and affordable!!"
"I got a beef/lamb gyro bowl and it was delicious!! My boyfriend recommended this place to me and I was a little skeptical at first because I read some of their reviews beforehand, but I am so glad I still gave it a try. Not sure why this place has a few low reviews for their service and food. Their customer service was great to me because an employee welcomed us in loudly and clearly. The food was fresh and came out fast. I like how they have small descriptions for items on their menu because it is nice to know what it comes with. The gyro bowl was filling and satisfying, just like how they described it. They gave a lot of perfectly cooked meat and rice. I tried a bite of the chicken gyro bowl and the meat was a little dry because they use chicken breast, but it was still good and had enough flavor. Their tzatziki sauce and mint sauce really brings the whole dish together. I want to learn how to make it!The inside of the restaurant has dim lighting, dark walls, and a white floor, which gives it a modern and classy ambiance. They also have some cool lights hanging down from the ceiling. This is a great place to eat at for Mediterranean and Halal food!"
"Aria afghan is delightful! Tucked away in an not-so-fabulous part of town, aria afghan serves authentic, nourishing, and delicious afghani food. I love the chicken kabob, and the lamb kubideh. The service is very friendly and you can tell they really care. There isn't much ambiance inside, more a place to get food to go"
"Delicious food, friendly staff and all the groceries! A must visit. Will recommend to all family and friends"
"Went back here a year later and the food is still GOOD! Maybe better than what I had last year. The service is always great. I will continue to come here again and again :)"
"For Christmas, I task my sister for gifting me with a meal from restaurants I have yet to try. I am glad she chose this one, as I believe this is only the second Afghan restaurant I have dined at.I ordered the saffron chicken, which came with spinach rice and a pumpkin puree. The rice was seasoned perfectly, and both the chicken and rice mixed amazingly with the puree. I don't believe I left anything on the plate. I started with a basic Caesar salad, and although I had to ask for some extra dressing, once I received it, it was a good salad. The dressing was homemade. I finished with a mini cheesecake, which was complimented well with its berry sauce. My server was respectfully attentive, in that I got to relax with my food and my thoughts, but my soda was refilled without being asked.A little expensive for a weekly dining experience, but for a special occasion out with family or friends who want to taste something different, then I think you should try this place. Enjoy!"
"My wifes grandparents were Russian but lived in Persia pre Iran and fled to the US back in the day, so that being said we tend to check out places from that region every so often. Most are pretty good, but this was the first one that made her start to cry, as soon as they brought out the plates and silverware she noticed the spoons. Apparently in that culture they use large spoons when eating with family (I had no idea, I just enjoy large spoons) she said those were like the one her babunia (grandma) used to have and the way everything looked said it was how they did it when she was a kid over at her houseThey had complementary green tea and milk tea which was a nice touch, the portions were huge, what you see in the pictures were only 2 individual orders of Chicken Malai with a half and half order of bolani. The is a garlic naan off to the side. And when the yogurt came out, there was another set of tears, we have never been severed yogurt in that way in any of the places we have visited. It was home made and unlike anything we have gotten at any restaurant before. And check out the little charcoal grilling station outside, As soon as we walked in we felt welcome, the staff was super friendly and checked on us multiple times, we are already talking about when we are going to come back and try so of the other options."
"Wanted to try something different and authentic Iranian / Persian cuisine is definitely something I don't see every day.I'm not sure how long they've been open, but I get the sense that they haven't been open very long. They weren't busy at all when I got there early in the evening - I was greeted politely and offered my choice of seating. My entree (Kobidah Lamb) turned out to be very familiar to me since it was similar to Greek and Mediterranean dishes I've had. The dish included a lot of rice... far more than I could possibly eat (I took some home). The lamb and rice were both very tasty... and on that note, I don't recall calling rice "tasty" in a review before, but this was some of the best rice I've ever had.Since the goal was trying something new (to me), I picked a couple appetizers that looked interesting - Sambosas and Arabic Bolani. In a way, these dishes have some similarities... Sambosas are essentially meat stuffed deep fried dumplings and I would loosely compare Arabic Bolani to a cheeseless meat filled quesadilla. Of the two, I preferred the Sambosas... the Bolani was pretty bland by itself, but served with accompaniments that optionally added some flavor.Overall, very happy with my experience - good food, service and the place was clean (including the restroom). Thumbs up."
"Kabul City Market truly impressed me with the bbq style food. The restaurant's chicken kebabs and lamb kebabs were nothing short of amazing, leaving me with a craving for more. The tender and perfectly seasoned meats were a testament to the afghan style of cooking. What stood out even more was their freshly baked Afghan bread, which complemented the kebabs beautifully. The warm, fluffy bread added an authentic touch to the entire experience. The ambiance at Kabul City Market is an ideal spot for enjoying a meal with friends a true hole in the wall. The friendly staff further enhanced the experience, providing top-notch courtesy. If you're looking to indulge in flavorful Afghan cuisine, Kabul City Market is a must-visit. The combination of delicious kebabs and delightful bread will undoubtedly leave you with a lasting impression. Now for the con part :) menu is short which is not a bad thing but this is not a fine dine kind of place so be prepared to get your own water and find your own table in the back of the market."
"We ordered food from here for Thanksgiving, and I am very glad we did. First, I think ordering kabob from this place wasn't the best thing, because neither me, nor my husband enjoyed the kabob, and that's why I deducted a star, but now we get to the good part: the beryani. The beryani here is MUST TRY! it was so so so good, that I didn't even care that the kabob was not good. We had gotten both chicken beryani and mutton beryani. They were both so so so so good. I can't say enough about how good it was. the meat, and the rice were both cooked perfectly, but what did it for me, was the spice level. It was perfect! it was just the right amount of spicy, and it was so balanced. As far as which beryani to order, I can't even decide. I think the chicken was my favorite (and I'm picky with chicken so that says a lot that I loved it) but the mutton was my husband's favorite. Oh! BTW! the leftovers were somehow even more delicious, this place is definitely a must try, just have to order well. I can't wait to try them again soon."
