Is Buckhorn location is more of a grab and go take out spot or location to order delivery. They're conveniently located downtown and there are always parking spots around the building, including some spots right up front that are used if you're just picking up real quick.I ended up stopping in and ordering at the counter. There are a few tables and benches to hang out in, and if you're really wanting to eat there, there is communal seating between the businesses that customers can access. The person behind the counter was really friendly and we talked about some of their favorite items. The menu offers a wide variety of items, and there's a little something for everyone. I ended up ordering the fried pickles, a half pound of pulled pork, Mac and cheese with pulled pork, and the kids chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and the mandarin orange drink. The wait wasn't too long and they packed it in a mix of compostable and/or microwave safe packaging. Everything stayed warm on my drive home and the leftovers reheated well.I really liked that the fried pickles were spears and that they had a little bit of spice to them. The sauce that came with them was great. The Mac and cheese was creamy and the pulled pork was tasty too. I'm not personally a big pulled pork fan, but my husband devoured it. I really liked that the kids meal had options for a big variety of sides. The chicken was nice and crispy too.I would definitely consider Buckhorn if you're looking for something that will have something on the menu for everyone.

I slept on Buckhorn! This location is about a 15 minute walk from my workplace, so not bad at all. I always order the 4oz tri-tip sandwich and you would think 4oz is not a lot, however, I was surprised the first time I ordered it, how big my sandwich was! The price is very fair for what you're getting and I thought the sandwich was delicious and the meat perfectly cooked. I am also particular about my bread in these sandwiches as they sometimes get soggy, however, the roll was crunchy and held up well. The service is always pretty good as well. There always seems to only be one person there, however the food doesn't take too long. If you're in the downtown Sac/midtown area and looking for a quick bite, I would recommend Buckhorn.

It's a bummer that they had to close the place at 18th and L. This place is not as nice and the location isn't very good either. The food remains the same. As far as menu items, you know what to expect at Buckhorn. The tri tip platter is my go to. On this particular trip I ordered the tri tip platter (12 oz) with roadhouse onions and garlic mash potatoes. I have memories of going to the Buckhorn at the SF Metreon where food was served fast or more recently the Buckhorn at the Nut Tree in Vacaville. Here, service was slow. The counter person was very nice but the food took a while. The food was meh. Tri tip was very salty and the garlic mash potatoes were watery. Roadhouse onions were on point. Overall, I have to give them three stars because the food was not up to par for a Buckhorn spot.

I have been to a couple Buckhorn locations, including the previous one in the Handle District as well as the one on Freeport. I wish I could say that my experiences have been outstanding, but unfortunately I can't. I've had the tri-tip, ribs and the sausage and everything just seems to be overcooked and very salty. This last time I got a beef and mushroom sandwich which was dry was so dry, I had to add a ton of the horseradish sauce to even make it mildly edible. This particular location has seating in the back area. However it looks like they just put out a bunch of tables in an open space. I'm glad there is seating even if it wasn't a very inviting atmosphere. This location is next to a parking garage and a great spot to grab a meal before going to the theater, which is down the street.I feel like the prices are not comparable to what you get. I know barbecue is expensive, but at least give me a satisfying meal. I feel like I've given Buckhorn multiple chances at different locations to impress me and unfortunately they just haven't.

Took over 45 minutes for us to receive and there was only one other group of people (2) waiting for their food. Odd that there isnt a great place to sit and eat. Through some doors that do not look like customers should be walking through them and sit and longish temporary tables in a room that looks like it should just be for reserved large parties. Food was descent. I had the bowl that was a special and it was enough food for two meals

Service: amazing Food: hit the spot. I was nervous ordering chicken because it's usually dry, but not this one! It was very moist and juicy. Ribs are amazing, dipped the pulled pork in the sauce and it's fabulous! Ordered many sides: beans, mashed potatoes, cornbread fries, potatoes salad, Caesar salad, mac and cheese and it was all delicious. Location is great, downtown can be hard to find parking, but I was able to get a parking right in front of the building for an easy pick up. Placed my large order online and it was grab and go. There also a parking garage next to the building if you wanted to park in the garage but there were plenty of street parking.

Ambiance:Not much at all. Really simple. You go to counter order and pay for your food. Then you walk to the back to a set of tables with black table cloth in a room that is not decorated. But who cares; it's the food that matters. Service:On this night, 8/27/24, excellent service at the counter and they brought our food to our table (packaged to go; even if eating there). Loved it. Food:Hands down the best Pulled Pork Tacos I have ever tasted. The Cole slaw alone was amazing. The tri-tip sandwich was awesome and perfectly cooked medium rare. The bread has a nice butter and garlic flavor. First class all the way. The Onion Rings were delicious and not overly fried. I am from Texas and moved here 15 years ago and this is the first time I had BBQ, outside of my own, that actually tasted as good, maybe a little better, than mine. Well done! Do yourself a favor and try this place out. You will not be disappointed.
