I've been to Blue Moon quite a few times in the past year and they've definitely upped their game. I was here years ago and they've redecorated and really pumped up the menu to offer a lot of great dishes. The rice plates are a great deal since you get house soup and iced lemon tea with refills included. It's just a few dollars more than a recent gourmet burger I bought, and you get a nicely sized portion! The steamed pork patty with rice is really great, it gave me the home-made feeling but had that restaurant flavor we enjoy when you go out. I've tried the ox tail, pork belly, beef brisket, and they were all decent. Oh you have to order the deep fried salt and pepper oysters, they are divine!Service is pretty good and the food and refills come out fast.

Tried this place based on a friends sugustion to try the oxtails. I was disappointed when they had "OUT" on all oxtail entrees.I tried the beef stew over noodle soup - it was pretty bland and not worth ordering again, I also ordered a wonton soup and a chicken egg soup to go.The two soups to go were very hot, and the broths were good. The price for the two to go soups were under 9 dollars each. I look for an unlucky homeless person(s) to give the hot soups.

I only come here once in a Blue Moon, and although the experience isn't horrible, it's likely not enough to keep me coming back more frequently. The reason why I've been out to this area more often of late is because I like to attend Chinese concerts at Thunder Valley, and usually pregame with some local Sacramentan friends at Chinese restaurants beforehand.Blue Moon was recommended by the local group, and since they also return to mother Hong Kong on a frequent basis, I figure they know the deal. The name of this place is likely in reference to the latenight operating hours, with supposedly wild karaoke parties. I'd be curious to check these out in the wee hours of the night sometime! As with many other Chinese restaurants in the Sacramento area, Blue Moon is located in a non-descript, run down strip mall, but it is still highly visible from the main street. Parking seems a bit limited, but wasn't a problem during the off peak hours when we visited. I can't speak for the prime time slots though.Blue Moon markets itself as an "HK Café," but it is more of a regular Cantonese restaurant. Even though the ubiquitous HK items (e.g. Baked Pork Chop over Rice) are shown on some of the older pictures above, I didn't see it on the menu on my visit, so perhaps they are only available at certain times of the day? Or maybe they aren't offered at all anymore? Instead, we had to choose from family style options or rice plates, which were perfectly fine. Here are some of the items we sampled on a recent visit:Chicken Bitter Melon - C--The chicken was stringy and not very fresh, but bittermelon was fine. Flavor was decent.Spicy Green Bean - B-It's hard to go wrong with this, and although a tad on the greasy side, it wasn't bad at all. Spicy Black Pepper Beef Udon - C-Since I don't eat flour, I avoided the udon, but others in the group said it was adequate. As for the beef, it was certainly not the freshest, and quite chewy.Pork Neck - B-Flavorful and meaty. I don't see this offered at many places, so this was refreshingly satisfying.Oxtail Clay Pot - B+-This was by far the star of the show. While as expected, it was quite greasy, flavor and portions were quite ample.Drinks that usually would be charged for at other establishments (HK milk tea, lemon tea, etc.) are included for free, which is a plus. My HK milk tea was passable, but I'm relatively certain it was premade, and not brewed fresh in house. The decor pays slight homage to HK cafés (with reference to 3:15, which is HK afternoon tea time), but other than that, it is quite simple, with big windows to let in plenty of light.Service is typical for any Chinese restaurant, which is to say it's not the friendliest, but they aren't necessarily mean either. They do their job efficiently, and that's all you can ask for.So, the question is... will I return to Blue Moon the next time another blue moon appears? Perhaps I would, but only if my group elects to come back. I wouldn't exactly suggest it myself, but I certainly wouldn't reject it either.

I've been eager to give Blue Moon another try since the change in ownership! the restaurant was empty but it was because I went when they just opened. I decided to share a few dishes: Green Beans & Chicken, hot oil wontons, chicken chow mein, and chicken gizzard. Before our food arrived, they surprised us with a complimentary corn soup. The chili wontons were a highlight for me; I loved the sauce and the filling. The green beans were delicious. The chow mein was a little salty to my liking. The chicken gizzard was alright. They have a diverse menu, so I'd be interested in coming back to try more dishes. However, I do find myself missing the food from the old Blue Moon.

Decided for a quick lunch at blue moon, we knew that it's under a new management but with the same name as the one that used to have her ehk baked pork chop over rice. The staff was super friendly, gave us free lemon tea and also soup of the day. We ordered egg and beef over chow fun and curry pork chop over rice .. their price is $13.95 pretty decent for what we got! Their flavors is similar to the Daimo from Bay Area!! But with half of its price lol. The menu is small comparing to other Chinese restaurant but at least the flavors are good. When we came in, the place smelled a little off like a Smokey smell.....Overall, worth visiting or as to go. Definitely, will come back to order other dishes!

We've been wanting to try Blue Moon again since the owner change! It was around 11pm on a Sunday and this place was empty. We got a couple of dishes to share, we got the eggplant fish, hot oil wonton, black pepper honey ribs, and fries. Before our food came out, they gave us a complimentary soup! It was a pork bone soup with winter melon, pretty standard Asian soup! The chili wontons were really good! I really like the sauce it came with and also the filling of the wonton. The black pepper honey ribs were delicious was well! I loved the strong black pepper taste. The fries were a little too crispy but they gave us such a huge portion. The eggplant and fish was okay, not the best I've ever had. The fish wasn't breaded which was a little odd. They have a pretty extensive menu, I would come back to try their other items. I definitely miss the food from the old blue moon though.

Honestly I was a little skeptical when our friend said we are going to this spot since I checked out the review beforehand... But I'm glad to try this place out:We decided to do family style so we tried out a bunch of dishes:Sorry no picture because food came out fast and we ate it also very fast.First the ginseng chicken soup was a nice light starter. We were a party of 8 so it was on the small end. They decided to give us a free tomato beef soup to give us a little more. It was my friend's birthday so maybe that's why we got some freebies! We also got free ice lemon tea. It was soooo good .. I got a refill We all enjoy the eggplant with fish dish. Can't go wrong with the fried squid either. The long tentacle bit was battered right for a perfect crunch.Curry chicken was ok I don't like chicken stuff in general.Dried scallop fried rice was good , light to go with the other dishes. There was a pepper honey beef ribs , the flavor was good but it was a little chewy so use your hands to eat easier.Garlic yu choy was solid. Then we did karaoke for 2 hours and had a lot of fun. Pretty good place. The food hit right during our visit and the service was good. Not understanding the negativity

I haven't been here in years. We decided to check out how it now that it reopened with new management. We didn't see the clay pots and baked pork chop over rice on the menu. Definitely a smaller menu compared to before. Everything seems reasonably priced. I ordered the egg beef chow fun, which was saucy and delicious. Staff was friendly and gave us soup and lemon tea with our rice dish. We will definitely be back.

3.5 Stars! Blue Moon is under new management, so we decided to give this place a try. Came for dinner only, but they have five private rooms for karaoke. It was three of us, so we ordered the family special that included soup, one appetizer, two entrees and white rice for $32.95. Great deal! I enjoyed the homemade style soup! Food was average except for the chicken chow fun. The texture, taste and flavor all on point! I could have eaten the whole plate. Great service! Nice place to have dinner with family.

I got another photo from yesterday. This is what I chose from the menu is Spaghetti with Meat Sauce. It's a Hong Kong Style dish the same as Italian.
