Delicious food, the service was friendly and fast! And the place was very quiet and peaceful. I've had Ethiopian food once before but it's definitely a rich cuisine and I do love the injera bread. The sampler says it's serves 2 people but it's more like 3. I came ravenous but we still couldn't get it finished off.Definitely want to come back to try some other things but definitely a great spot in Sac!

Some of the worst food I've ever had. I love Ethiopian too. I ordered from DoorDash and this place send food that smelled expired. I couldn't eat it. The injera smelled sour/fermented to the point of no return. The doro wot was oily and tasted rank. I couldn't even eat 1 bite.

I came here because of the good reviews. The only good things I can say is that it's a clean place and the people are nice/ friendly. But the food not so much. To begin with the injera, it was way fermented that it smelled unpleasant. The sides from the meat and veggie combos lacked seasoning, spices and butter, the main ingredients that make Ethiopian food unique.

PORTIONS: filling and heartyPRICE: appropriateSERVICE: order at the table, pay at the front - be ready for a LEISURELY pace...we were the only ones there and it took about 25 minutes from order to table..Even ordering baklava, which I didn't think needed much preparation, took 10 more minutes.AMBIANCE: clean and colorful FLAVORS:Ye beg tibs (mild) - 3/5 - I only had a bite and I thought it was good, but my partner said it wasn't as flavorful as he's had before?Gored gored with collard greens - 8/5!! - I loved it. It woke me up from this lazy summer heat Beef sambusas - 2/5 - not really anything, wouldn't get again, wouldn't recommend Baklava - 3/5 - it's not a Greek or middle eastern baklava for sure; a LOT MORE syrup but still tasty

This was my 2nd time ever trying Ethiopian food. The stews were satisfying, but incredibly salty. We didn't finish the injera that came with the dishes, so maybe we weren't eating enough of those? The beef was quite dry, but the flavors were pleasant. The chicken was a fair bit spicier but still completely edible and not overpowering (we are east and se asian). The chicken and egg were tender. I do wish it came with more veggies and the cheese seemed wet, although I still liked it. The injera was addictive, smelled a bit like cooked fresh pasta with just a bit of tang to cut the richness of the stews. For me the food was too hot to eat with my hands so the waitress gave me some utensils. Pleasant servers, not too long of a wait, effort was put into decor, and prices were reasonable.

I visited Abyssinia Ethiopian Restaurant twice; once for dinner on Saturday, 01/06/24, and once during lunchtime on 01/12/24. On both visits, I decided to order the House Combination Platter: Meat Combo. It came with Spicy Chicken Stew, Spicy Cubed Beef Stew, Cubed Beef Stew, Minced Beef Stew, Cabbage Stew, and a side of Injera. All of the meats were intensely bold in terms of flavor profile. All of the meats were palatable, however I favored the Spicy Chicken Stew and Spicy Cubed Beef Stew the most. The Injera was tasty as well. The Cabbage Stew was even fantastic. My taste buds were tantalizing through the roof because everything was well-seasoned and delicious. For a beverage, I tried a Strawberry Peach smoothie and it was refreshingly fruity. I love the indoor ambiance of the restaurant. It is decorated very nicely. The individuals that run the restaurant are extremely sweet and inviting. The service is great and attentive. I can also tell that the food is made with love. I will be returning here whenever I am craving flavorful Ethiopian food. This restaurant does not disappoint whatsoever.

WHY WE WENT HERE:- lunchTHE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE):- located in a plaza off Fulton Ave and Hurley Way- located in the same plaza as 24 Hour FitnessTHE LOOK (FROM THE INSIDE):- good amount of seating- brownish brick wall- decor is brown and orange- by the kitchen area (where the register is) there's some grass hut awning as decor- TV wall mounted playing Ethiopian music videos THE MENU:- has a QR code for their IG page- beef- lamb- poultry- eggs- fish- vegetarian/vegan- house combination platters- side orders- beverages- alcoholic beverages- smoothies/dessertsWHAT WE ORDERED (combined both of our orders into one platter to share):- kitfo (med spicy)- ye-beg tibs- split yellow peas- collard greens- cabbage stew- house saladTHE TASTE:- kitfo (med spicy) - was the biggest portion on our platter; wasn't as spicy as anticipated- ye-beg tibs (lamb stir-fry, mild) - good; not as well seasoned as I've had elsewhere - split yellow peas - mild- collard greens - I think these were the frozen ones that were just stir fried; it was good but not outstanding- cabbage stew - tender (cabbage and carrots); mildly seasoned- house salad - basic; just romaine lettuce and sliced tomato- injera - a lot thicker and more sour than had elsewhereCUSTOMER SERVICE:- we only dealt with one worker despite us seeing possible other family/staff members (mainly behind the counter); she was nice

I was looking for some lunch in Sacramento after getting off a flight. I did a search for Ethiopian food and Abyssinia was the closest by my hotel. The food in the pictures looked amazing.I headed to the restaurant and it was in a shopping center with a few other businesses. When I walked in I was the only one there. Usually I like to get take out but my hotel room wasn't ready so I decided to dine in. The young lady at the register greeted me and handed me a menu. I decided to get the Ye-Doro Tibs which is actually a chicken stir fry. The woman told me that this dish was mild which didn't have any kick. I told her that I wanted a little spice so I got Ye-Doro Awaze Tibs which is medium spicy. I also got a Spiced Ethiopian Tea.I sat down and waited for my food. I looked around the place and looked at all the pictures and decorations on the wall. I just loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. When I got my food I noticed that my food came with extra injera. I hadn't had Ethiopian food in a while so I didn't know how handy that would be until I started eating. For starters, the tea was really good. The flavor was so good. Then I started on my meal. It was probably the best Ethiopian food I've eaten. My forehead was sweating but the flavor wasn't overpowered by the level of spice. The seasoning was perfect. I couldn't stopped eating if I wanted to. I would come back to this place often if I lived in Sacramento.

Abyssinia best Ethiopian food in Sacramento! We have been dining at Abyssinia for more than a decade. The owners are recently back from Ethiopia and the food is fantastic. Every dish is delicious, made with passion, and fresh ingredients. If you are a vegetarian, the vegetable combo plate is a dream come true. We share that and doro wot in the middle for our chicken lovers. Also, be sure to try the honey wine (tej) as it is the perfect complement to spicy food. And the Ethiopian beer is great too. The owners ensure your dining experience is superb by coming by each table to check on you and ask about the food. The atmosphere is relaxing, welcoming, and for those interested in Ethiopian music, you can watch Ethiopian dancing on video while dining. Experiment with trying different dishes and bon appetite!
