I recently celebrated my birthday during San Diego Comic-Con and was in the mood for some delicious Asian food. Sab Lai Thai in the Gaslamp District caught my eye with its excellent menu, and as a Thai food lover, I had to give it a try.Even without taking reservations, Sab Lai managed their seating impressively. Despite the Saturday night rush during a massive pop culture convention, our wait for dinner was less than 30 minutes. We chose to sit outside to enjoy some people-watching of the Comic-Con attendees, which added to the fun.The appetizer sampler was a perfect portion for our group, and the Thai tea was a refreshing treat on a hot and humid summer night. When trying a new Thai place, I always go for the Massaman Curry. Sab Lai uses a 10-spice scale, and I opted for an 8. While it tasted more like a 5 to me, it was still delicious.Being my birthday, I couldn't resist the mango and sticky rice for dessert. It was a delightful ending to the meal--not overly sweet, just perfect. The service was excellent, the vibes were immaculate, and the food was delicious. Highly recommend!

The spot was really cute & nicely decorated, there's also a 2nd side setup as a bar so that's cool. We came in the afternoon during comic con & fortunately we got there right in time because they filled up shortly after. The staff was very nice but seemed a bit overwhelmed with the crowd as we had multiple servers that would check on our table & not realize someone else already came to take our order, etc.The Thai tea was pretty good & their lychee lemonade was super refreshing but really sweet, so I'd water it down if you didn't like sweet stuff. Overall their food was good, but could use more flavor on their drunken noodles.

Oh my goodness, what an incredible experience! The staff was absolutely delightful and attentive, making us feel so welcome. The restaurant itself is stunning, with beautiful decor that creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The music added a lovely touch, enhancing the overall ambiance. Now, onto the food - simply the best Thai cuisine I've had in ages! Every dish was a masterpiece. The wings were perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The red shrimp curry was an absolute revelation, with rich, complex flavors that transported me straight to Thailand. And the drunken noodles with beef? Exquisite! Each bite was a harmonious blend of taste and texture. This place is an absolute gem!

First off, customer service is always over the top. Beyond the pleasantries, they typically have a full house. The seating is appropriately spaced so that our costumes, bags, props, and equipment don't get in other patron's way "too much". The Pad See Iw with beef is always delicious. Whether we are in or out of costume, they deliver. The Thai Fried Rice with chicken hits the spot every time. This is our go to spot for Thai when visiting the Gas Lamp District. This is our fourth time visiting this joint since 2015 and they always deliver on flavor and service!

Great food and great atmosphere! The Sab Lai Sampler plate was a great option to start off with. Get a taste of everything! The Massama Curry was delicious and has a bit of crunch with the peanuts. My partner wasn't a fan of the Yellow Curry so not sure what's up with that exactly.

Had a nice lunch here, it was mostly empty on a weekday. It was relatively quiet. We were surprised that everything came on the same plate including the spring roll, sauces, and the fruits. It seemed a bit crowded on our plates and we would have preferred separate plates for these sides (specifically the fruit since the rest of the dish was quite oily)Both dishes were delicious but not outstanding. The crispy spring roll was absolutely delicious and came out nice and hot.

This place is fantastic! The service was great and so was the food. I got the mock chicken satay and vegan tofu pad Thai- my partner got the seafood pad Thai and cheese wontons. The pad Thai had the best noodles- the kind that's more skinny- and a great amount of sauce. I had a ton of tofu in the dish as well that was perfectly cooked and soft on the inside. Not too fried! The mock chicken satay was very delicious! I didn't take a picture until I already ate 3.I think we may go back there today!

noooo i had such high hopes--alas! :,(arriving into San Diego, some Thai sounded like the *perfect* way to relax and recharge after an unexpectedly long travel day peppered with airplane snacks.i'm sorry to say that service was spotty and we were on a downhill, turbulent landing from the moment we sat down:for starters, we had Tom Yum, which astonishingly, we were given small desert (ice cream!) bowls and spoons to dine with. needless to say, by the time we finished a serving with super small desert spoons, the soup was going cold and eating tofu (and drinking some soup that was rather watery at the same time!) with a small teaspoon wasn't the most fun experience.to add insult to the injury, it was disappointing to see the server look at us several times struggling to have soup. while it seemed as though you weren't the happiest to be on the clock, i really hope everything is okay, dear server, but it's just a little disappointing when you hop into a restaurant after a long day. hoping better for the main, we got the pad thai which was overbearingly sweet. the red curry was OK, but to be completely honest, not memorable. all in all, it's a bummer that our experience was as so -- we actually came here because some of our family dined here some 5+ years back when visiting san diego for the first time -- unfortunate that we didn't get the same experience. (now, i will note that on the bright side, this spot is misleadingly more spacious interior than it seems on the outside.)hoping you please take this feedback into account, sab lai!

Came here for early dinner with a colleague and really liked the food. I ordered the Thai basil chicken and it was flavourful. The egg rolls were nice and so were the drunken noodles. Portions are big. Service was quick and our server was very sweet. Great location, located in heart of Gaslamp!
