I've come here so often and never done a review. I was put off at first with the pricing (because $6 a taco sounds insane), but the tacos are larger than normal tacos and the shells are homemade. My go-to order is the carne and pollo tacos, the elote, a strawberry lemonade, and a lot of habanero salsa on my tacos. Staff is friendly and professional. I've never dined in, but there are definitely nice vibes. Love this place!

We recently tried out the tacos at Rubi's, which has its roots as a Maxwell Street vendor but is now a storefront on 18th Street in Pilsen. It has a colorful interior with communal seating for diners.Order your food at the counter, and you are handed a buzzer that will go off once your order is ready. The food comes out fairly quickly, and the service seemed fine overall. There was always someone coming down the aisles to pick up garbage and so forth. At first we were taken aback by the prices of the tacos (6 bucks for one taco - yikes!). But we were just getting a snack, and of course we heard good things about the tacos. I really liked the pork taco with red mole sauce, it was a bit zingy but very flavorful. The "beef stew" taco was just OK, with enormous chunks of beef though I do not recall if it had much potato if any. My lovely wife liked her asada taco. I must say that the tacos are generously filled with ingredients, and the tortillas are homemade and seemed thicker than average to hold all the toppings together.

Rubi's may be a new hidden gem for all taco lovers across the Chicagoland area. My gf ran across a video on Tik Tok that featured this restaurant and after a few minutes of consideration we decided to give it a try. The part that sold us was hearing that they have home made tortillas only, and yes they were so good! One tip I recommend is to not order too much since the servings are pretty big. 2 chicken tacos and an horchata were more than enough for me. Also their service was great, so shout to the whole staff! Can't wait to come again soon!

YES YES YES!! This place feels like coming home to me. The decor and lively ambience feels like you're walking into abuelitas backyard for a carne asada. All the menu is a great value and the food does not disappoint! The owners are walking around talking to everyone and couldn't be more hospitable.

Another little gem in the Pilsen area! I can never seem to get my booty over there during the right times but yesterday was a SUCCESS!! It was a gorgeous day so sitting outside was the best choice. When you walk in you notice all the decor. It's a very fun rustic vibe. It feels somewhat beachy. You're greeted by someone and you place your order, they hand you a buzzer and you sit and wait. I don't think it was a full 15 mins before everything arrived to the table . It was incredibly busy, so I appreciate the efficiency. The order was a limonade with guava . It was so refreshing and delicious. Along with that , I ordered 3 tacos . Two carne and one chorizo with an order of chips and guac. Now, yes we know I'm super particular about many things lol! However, this guac was actually so fire! The ONLY thing I did was squeeze a little lime juice on top because that's my preference but it's so so so good! The tacos were definitely the star though! I really enjoyed the ration of meat to tortilla. Sometimes it feels like you have 3-4 tortillas and very little filling. That was not the case today! I'm so happy I was finally able to stop in and see what the hype is all about . I wasn't disappointed and I don't think you'd be either ! Oh, the total was 38.16 I believe .. in today's economy that's a steal lol! I can't wait to visit again! Thanks for a great meal!

I've been wanting to come to Rubis for a very long time. If it wasn't for covid they'd probably still be at the Maxwell Street Market. But they were forced to shut down and had to sell their tacos from their backyard for awhile. They were finally blessed with this current location and it appears they have had some great success. The staff he is gray. Very friendly and welcoming. They treat you like if you were visiting inside their home. The prices for their tacos on definitely a little on the high side but we'll worth it. They use quality ingredients and the tacos themselves are very filling. My wife ordered their Campechano taco with carne Asada and chicharron. I thought the meats would be mixed but it was basically half carne Asada and half chicharron. It was a very delicious taco. I've always wanted to try Huitlacoche and decided to order a taco here with their homemade blue corn tortilla. It was definitely different, something I've never tried before but loved every bite. A really beautiful looking taco. I also ordered an Al Pastor taco which came with pineapple and it was also delicious. The al pastor meat had a lot of flavor and was very tender. What really made these tacos stand out thought was their handmade tortillas. It really adds depth when made right. Can't wait to come back!

First time having homemade tortillas at a restaurant & was thoroughly impressed! The tortilla was thick, good quality, & tasty. The taco itself was a good portion but my boyfriend & I ended up getting 2 more tacos because we had room left. I like the taste of everything but their pork grinds taco was soft big piece of pork & not what I expected. I was assuming crunchy with salsa & when I got soft, I was sad. Their quesadillas are definitely to die for. I am a cheese feen & loved the cheese pull. The atmosphere was order in then sit down yourself & getting your own utensils, napkins, & sauces. Loved the sauce selection! The small one was a tasty but numbing lingering spice. Price was the most expensive I've done for casual latin food dining. This is why not a full 5 stars but thats because I haven't paid $6 for a taco until now. I understand inflation but definitely would not frequent casually, more so go to show a friend visiting the area.

If you're looking for a treat yourself moment in the form of tacos, definitely check out Rubi's! The size of their tortillas and the fillings are super generous and priced right for what you get. Order 1-2 tacos and you'll be perfectly full and satisfied-- trust me! The meat was extremely flavorful, and I really appreciated the variety of tortilla options which you don't find at many taco spots. In terms of flavor, you're definitely going to get it here! The meat was super juicy and the perfect amount of savory. It can get a bit oily, so do yourself a favor and cut it with some horchata. I tried both the regular and strawberry version, and both were equally as good. Service was great also. The husband and wife who own this establishment were super friendly, and took their time to greet and make conversation with our party and guests throughout the restaurant even though it was busy. Would come back!

Ok so I was actually looking for a different taco spot, but stumbled upon Rubi's as it was too cold to keep walking and I had remember seeing mentions of it on several different Reddit posts. Walking in, I liked how accessible the menus were. I know it doesn't mean a lot for some people, but for a old head like me, I still enjoy holding a full menu vs having to pull it up on my phone. The ambiance was nice, kind of like a bar, very casual and great for groups. I ordered a asada and a chorizo taco. For me, the sign of a great taco is there steak taco. So the positives...there was alot of steak. Not enough for two tacos, but definitely filled up the whole taco. The homemade tortilla was very nice and very authentic. I loved the different choices of sauce. The not so positive...I wasn't impressed. The meat itself was tender but not bursting with flavor. I really needed their sauce to really spice up the taco. I felt the same about the Chorizo taco. Was really expecting a huge explosion of flavor, but what I received was a bountiful filled taco on homemade tortilla. I also ordered guac and chips. For $11 I thought it was a bit overpriced. The guac was a 7.5 out of 10. It was good but needed more kick and more salt and lime. But I did add a little salt to it and the lime that came with my tacos were way too small for me to squeeze into anything more than my taco...so no lime juice to enhance my guac. Overall, I would say I enjoyed my visit but its not a spot I would rave about.

The salsas! Good and spicy! Go for the carne asada - the steak is juicy and seasoned perfectly. Top it with one of their salsas - it's perfection.
