Not much to say beyond great food with big flavors. You can get something really spicy and numbing, or something mild like the chicken noodle soup, or anything in between. The fries are underrated and delicious. The sweet water noodles are SOOOOO good!!! Only weird thing is that several dishes are marked vegan on their menu when they clearly aren't, like the chicken noodle soup.

The GoodSignature Spicy Beef Noodles was good as everyone says, Wonton in Volcano Broth was great, the wontons had plenty of filling so they must have listened to the criticism, and the Hot & Sour Fern Root Noodles were very refreshing to eat between the other spicy and savory dishes. The restaurant itself is nice and clean, service was friendly and accomodating. I like the options for ordering. The Not-so-GoodFiery Spicy Fries were undercooked so we took almost all of them home and put them in the air fryer to crisp them up but it was only a marginal improvement. Fiery and Flavorful BBQ Pork Ribs had too much season rub which was aggressive on cumin and throws the flavor off balance. I scraped off the excess seasoning from the leftovers and it was an improvement but definitely not worth $18 imho. We began ordering at 3:30 pm on a Friday and was told they were sold out of Bon Bon Chicken even though it was shown as available. I was really disappointed but also confused by how it could be sold out 90 minutes into being open and seems to be popular so why not enough on hand? There was another dish that sounded like a good alternative but it was sold out as well. There were no other chicken dishes besides soups but since we already ordered 2 we went with the fries, unfortunately.Lastly, I signed up for their loyalty program 3 days before dining in but they couldn't apply points because my phone number wasn't found. I just checked and my number wasn't saved for some reason. Be sure to verify to be safe. We were in a rush to get on the road otherwise I would have checked at the time. It happens.Overall I'd say 4 stars. The negatives of my review feel like maybe it should be 3.5 but I want to give the benefit of the doubt as it could be my luck. Had the Bon Bon Chicken been available and I not had to order the fries this would have been a much better experience.

I recently dined at Royal Highness Zhu, a fantastic Szechuan restaurant, and I had a wonderful experience. Here's a breakdown of my meal:Food:- Tempting Bon Bon Chicken: This dish was my favorite. The flavor was amazing and the chicken was extremely tender. I do wish the chicken was boneless and cut into smaller pieces, but aside from that, it was delicious.- Spicy Beef Noodle Soup: This soup was packed with flavor. The noodles were perfectly al dente, the beef was tender, and the broth had deep, rich flavors.- Beef and Veggies Hotpot: Another great choice. There was plenty of beef, and the bean curd soaked up all the delicious broth flavors.- Wonton in Volcano Broth: The broth tasted great, but the wontons needed more filling. I probably wouldn't order this dish again.Ambiance:The restaurant was very clean and spacious, with a fun atmosphere that made dining there a pleasure.Service:The service was excellent. The food came out very quickly, and we were able to finish our meal in less than an hour.Ordering and Pricing:One unique feature is that you place your order on your phone. The prices are very reasonable, with most items ranging from $10-$15. This makes it easy to order several dishes to share with the table.Overall, Royal Highness Zhu offers a great dining experience with flavorful dishes, efficient service, and a pleasant atmosphere. I look forward to returning and trying more items on their menu!

Authentic. Chinese. Street. Food!!! Here you can indulge in the flavors of food from ChenDu, which is the capital of Sichuan, in China! The spices and flavors in the dishes are so tasty. Here's what I tried:Tempting Bon Bon ChickenFiery Spicy Fries DelightsHot & Sour Fern Root NoodlesWholesome Wonton Chicken SoupSingle Choice Hot Pot w/imitation crab meatThree CannonsChengDu Osmanthus CakeMango Soda Drink 芒果少女心The Bon Bon Chicken was my favorite! It was so many flavors at once with the chili oil, soy sauce, slight sweetness and sesame oil. The Wonton chicken soup is so warm and comforting and the dumplings are made in house. I love how airy and modern the space is; there is room for big groups - which I really like. Put them on your list to visit and tell em that Bri from Planes and Plates sent you!

Overall Thoughts: The food here tasted good with traditional Chengdu spices and flavors, but the total was quite pricey considering the smaller portion sizes. Also, as someone with only a so-so spice tolerance, I found the flavors overall quite mild (maybe that was just for the specific dishes we ordered, though). The interior is decorated nicely-- very minimalist, sleek, and modern. The online ordering system they have is a little confusing and sometimes glitches out if you're ordering with a group, but everything went smoothly in the end. Overall, despite the higher prices, I'd be happy to come to RHZ again with a large group of people to try out more dishes on their menu, or even stop by their other take-out only location in Bridgeport (called 大毛家).Food I tried:- Fiery Spicy Fries (4.2/5): These were quite flavorful with a decent kick to them, but weren't as crispy as I would've hoped. - Signature Spicy Beef Noodles (4.2/5): This was solid, and has all the traditional hearty, umami flavors of Chinese beef noodle soup.- Glass Noodle Hot Pot (4.1/5): Not as spicy as I would've hoped but still a solid dish, especially for vegetarians. It was pretty monotone / undiversified though, as it's mainly just glass noodles.- Vegetable Symphony Hot Pot (4.2/5): I liked this hot pot option better than the glass noodles, as it was more varied in textures and ingredients.- Firecracker Pig Trotters (4.7/5): Probably my favorite dish out of everything we ordered. The feet were remarkably tender and flavorful, filled with delicious collagen.- Wonton in Volcano Broth (4.3/5): I liked this dish too; the wontons tasted fresh and the soup was flavorful and slightly sweet. However, I wished the wontons were bigger-- the skin-to-filling ratio was off.- Glutinous rice cake with brown sugar (4.2/5): Pricey for the fact that it only came with 3 and were pretty small, but they tasted good-- sweet and crispy.--Price (relative to peers): 4/5Food: 4.2/5Ambience: 4.8/5Service: 4.4/5Overall Value: 4.2/5

Super cute interior. Kind of a random mish mosh of things but entertaining to look at nonetheless. Music was too quiet, but that's my only "criticism".Food was SOOO good. Saw this restaurant from an Instagram influencer raving about the chewy noodles, which did NOT disappoint. Everything we ordered was delicious. Spicy beef noodle soup though was definitely the star, from the perfectly bouncy noodles to the savory broth with a nice amount of spice.Ordering was really easy through the QR code provided and service was fast and top tier. They also had the cutest to go bags and boxes.Would definitely come here again, just for the noodles!

FINALLY found my fave chewy wide potato noodle share this w a noodle lover Lincoln Park or Depaul area, Chicago(Multiple locations, also called 大毛家I've been looking for this for a while now. Especially because I had it so much growing up in Hong Kong. When I used to go to the mall, & am ready for a snack at 4pm but didn't want to ruin my dinner appetite, this is what I would get (or skewers )It's a Sichuan spicy noodle made from potato starch , which makes it extra chewy. it soaks up the spicy beef broth, making it extra deliciousI remember going to the mall underground in Chicago's Chinatown a few times and being so disappointed. So it took me so long to find this place perfect if you love spicy food & Cheng Du street food but they also have lots of non-spicy options! If you're going to try 3 things, get the: Handmade dumplings (pork + nicely seasoned , sweeter side which I like) Wide glass noodle (my favorite) Signature spicy beef noodle (best seller, hand pulled noodles)All noodles (official names on the menu since I got confused too):Handmade Sweet Water Noodle $8 纯手擀手压甜水面 Glass Noodle Hot Pot $10 幺妹儿冒宽粉Signature Spicy Beef Noodles $13 老成都原汤滚烫牛肉面 (tomato beef non-spicy version available)Traditional Chicken Noodle Soup $11 一挂银丝鸡汤面Vermicelli & Pork Intestine Noodle $14 手都搓烂了的肥肠粉Hot & Sour Fern Root Noodles $8 拐枣巷酸酸辣辣蕨根粉Other things I ordered:Savory bean curd $8 Sweet bean curd / tofu pudding $6 (tastes like 酒揚圓子) Rabbit $21 Pork ribs $12Highlights the take out boxes are also SOOOOO CUTE with cute Amazing serviceReally spaciousFood comes out SUPER quickOrder with a QR code on the table Huge menu with my favorite sesame ball, duck tongue , pig ears, etc.@royalhighnesszhu Royal Highness Zhu 朱椿 1217-1219 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60614Open 2-9pmClosed Tuesdays Order online, pick up in store, or reserve a table @opentable

Amazing spot for Chinese food near DuPaul. My friend and I stopped by and we ordered a bunch of various items off the menu. The portion sizes particularly for the Tomato Noodles with Fried Egg and the Wontons were huge! The highlight of the meal for me would be either the hand pulled noodles with peanut sauce or the Bon Bon Chicken. The chicken is served cold with lots of chili seasoning and paired perfectly with a side of white rice. The hand pulled noodles were perfectly soft, and the sauce was incredible as well. The root noodles were also great, and had the taste of cucumber salad. The Duck Wing was also fantastic and served cold. The meat is tougher than I expected, but a great side dish. You scan a QR code at the table to order and the service was extremely fast. We got way too much food and ended up paying around $70 total. There is also a kiosk where you can order to go making for a quick and easy dining experience!

This restaurant levels up the spice and cuteness for taste and ambiance. Service was amazingly quick and ordering was so cool with the beautifully designed digital photo menu worth taking your time to look through every picture as an AI work of art. Also everyone who scans the same barcode is able to see what others at the table are ordering in real-time making it easy to decide for a family-style meal.Considering all the different ethnic Asian restaurants, this place stands out as a must visit for anyone looking to expand their taste buds and a top destination I'll be recommending to friends. The dishes look like authentic Sichuan and we were afraid the spice level was going to overpower the flavor of the food but quite the opposite. Everyone at the table drank up the sauce and not have to guzzle down a bottle of water or tea after.GOOD- Every dish was a five: bon bon chicken, sizzling fried rice, crispy pork strips, spicy beef noodle, dumplingsBAD- Only one check per tableSPICE- Spice level was perfect for the following palates at our table: Vietnamese, Korean, Filipino

I've been a frequent takeout customer of both Royal Highness Zhu and the downtown A Place by Damao. Royal Highness Zhu is by the Depaul campus. The interior is clean and modern, with a very casual vibe. I dropped by on a Sunday during the day. It was busy but no wait. I can imagine it gets quite busy during the weekend rushes. They take reservations. The dine in experience is efficient but isn't really "full service". The QR codes on the table pulls up the menu on Chowbus, and you order on your phone completely. The QR code menu however isn't quite a full menu and there aren't any descriptors for the menu items, you have to go to their website menu separately to read item descriptions. There is staff that will bring out the food for you and refill waters. We received paper cups for water when some other tables got real glasses, which was strange but not a huge deal. The menu is pretty traditional and has a lot of Chengdu dishes that you can't get at other restaurants, like maocai (premade mixed hot pot) which are my favorite. The volcano wontons are also a favorite. The spicy dishes here are very spicy and oily so be warned. In general, I think Royal Highness Zhu and A Place by Damao have really directed the majority of their energy to their delivery and takeout business. The dine in experience is pleasant but doesn't feel as premium as their delivery option.
