Great spread of food! The flavors were nice and pronounced. Very different than what you would consider as traditional Japanese cuisine, but still tasty nonetheless. My personal favorite were the ribs, they were flavorful and extremely tender.Service was fairly attentive and the food came out fairly quickly. Don't worry, they won't leave you hungry for too long . As for the location itself, it felt a little tight and loud which actually kind of took away from the dining experience a bit, but not by too much.Fun fact: this has the same owners as Temari Bar, Suika, and a new Gyo Gyo En. Check them out!

Uni Creamy Croquette: The croquettes came out hot and crispy. The filling was creamy, and the corn + uni tasted lovely. The sauces were just the right amount of tart to round out the flavors. Bara-Chirashi Donburi: Lots of fish and a good amount of rice. The restaurant is quite small and comprises of seating at tables or the counter. It was mostly empty when I came in a few minutes after opening on a weekend, but it was almost full by around 12:15pm. While I don't mind sitting at the counter, I feel like the last seat of the counter was closer to the kitchen serving area than I'd like, as there always seemed to be an employee standing right next to me.

Started off with the corn karage which was super yummy! My daughter loved it too! The rainbow shooter was yummy and full of flavor as well. :) the bara-chirashi was okay. My friend told me it's what the restaurant is known for. But I think the flavor was a bit lacking, whereas my friend thought it was too salty. Then we were still hungry so we ordered wasabi takoyaki which was good and fried chicken which was okay. The service and ambiance was great! Helpful and attentive staff!

What an amazing meal. I came in with my team from work and had such a great experience. All of the dishes were well portioned, brimming with flavor and beautifully presented. Some highlights were the BBQ Ribs, the curry donut and the uni croquettes. The restaurant has a fun vibe with some Akira Toriyama art in the front. I can't wait to go back.

Came here on a Sunday night and there was no wait time. Usually it gets filled up and busy quickly. I got the Rondo Bento, which was okay. I expected the portion sizes to be slightly bigger. The fish (catch of the day) was slightly burned on the bottom. I would come back to try some of their other menu items! The price point was good however, which is why I give this visit a 4 stars :)

This is a very small restaurant so it gets busy quickly! I went to Rondo with a friend in August 2022 - this was my first time back in Seattle since 2016 and she recommended this when our original restaurant of choice turned out to be closed for the day. It does get a bit cramped - we were seated at the long table. It was so hard to order because their menu had so many great options and so creative. For starters, we ordered the crispy tuna bites. I liked this, but the spicy sauce was a bit overpowering so all I could taste was just... spicy. We also ordered the salmon battera sushi - the seared fish and torched rice was such a good match! For our main, we ordered the Poke Ben Go - portions were huge to split between two girls. The tuna poke was super fresh, and the karaage was perfectly crispy, juicy, and tender. I can't wait to come back to try Rondo again!

TLDR: Okay Oxtail Ramen, minus the oxtail. Try the non-noodles.Sunday 3/10/24 ~1:57pm, 5 minutes 34 seconds order-to-bowl~~~~~~~~~ Tokyo Shoyu Ramen (Oxtail) ~~~~~~~~~Final Score: 6.1/10(7.8/10) Noodles: Impressive, upper tier, thick, egg noodles.Very good quality vendor. I doubt they are making the dough in house, but they are definitely sourcing from a specialty noodle maker. Very chewy, great mouth feel, and cooked perfectly. The noodles held up to the oily oxtail broth and were the best part of the bowl. Glad they didn't skimp on the quality, paying for a good product. (5.8/10) Broth: A very standard shoyu broth base. Honestly, it could have been (and probably was) made from a pre-made bulk package. Like a really high quality instant shoyu ramen mix (not powder but definitely pre-made). Nothing wrong with it. Overall, pretty light and standard shoyu forward flavor. Not surprises. The huge and fatty oxtail did make the broth a little more oily than it normally would have been. It might have been better without the oxtail. Good. Nothing special.(5.2/10) Egg: +$2.00 A very "average" egg. A noticeable overcook on the edges, but the center yolk was still jammy. The marinade profile was standard sweet shoyu / mirin flavoring, just could have been stronger (like all ramen eggs in Seattle). If they tripled the soak time, we could have something. A dinner egg might be stronger. Average.(6.8/10) Meat: Chashu: (6.8/10) Three relatively thin pieces of traditional pork belly chashu. It was cut in the "mushroom" shape with a good distribution of fat and meat layers. The overall fat / meat ratio was solid, and the meaty parts fell apart tender. The texture was perfect for this type of chashu. Well executed. There wasn't any visible char, but there was a deep marinade color (and pretty strong flavor too). Hard to complain about any particular component. Much better than the ox tail.Oxtail: (2.5/10) A huge disappointment. The oxtail was 100% for show in the bowl. The actual oxtail piece was 90% fat that they just left on the tail. Getting to the small amounts of meat was difficult - I had to perform surgery on a side plate. The actual tail meat was pretty bland. They probably used it in the broth as a boil-component, but didn't prepare the actual oxtail with any extra flavor or grilling. All the extra fat made the otherwise light shoyu broth extra oily. Honestly, the bowl would have been better without it.(2.5/0) Misc Toppings: A huge clump of arugula and some saffron. Would have been better without both. The arugula added color, but the "spiciness" of the veggie didn't mix well with the actual bowl. A standard green onion & wakame topping, or a tempura / garlic chip combo would have been great.(6.5/10) Other: The bowl fundamentals were solid. I really liked the noodles and chashu. The restaurant seems to at least "care" about everything on the menu. Worth revisiting for non-ramen. It doesn't compete with the top Ramen Shops in the area though.Note: Everything else on the menu; bentos, izakaya food, and other Japanese food looked very good. I would definitely try out other things on the menu. The Tan Tan Ramen looked smaller / pretty good, just heavy. ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~*Weighted Scoring Formula: Noodles (25%), Broth (25%), Egg (15%), Meat (15%), Misc Top. (10%), Other (10%)Parking: Tough street parking in Capitol Hill on a Sunday. Just be ready to walk a few blocks and park near the apartments.Service: Seated at the bar immediately. Fast, efficient. No complaints

We tried Rondo Japanese Kitchen for their daily happy hour (2:00-5:30pm). They have three sister restaurants (Tamari Bar, Bai-Ten, Gyo-Gyo-En).Made reservations for a Saturday afternoon (3:30pm). You have put a deposit down ($10.00 USD/person) but it's refunded when you show up. Service was friendly and prompt. - Ten-bero set ($10.00 USD) - Sapporo beer (16 oz), Hakushika junmai sake (5oz) and 3 kind appetizer. Great deal, can't beat it.- Hakushika junmai sake ($4.00 USD)- Taro mule ($9.00 USD) - light, easy drinking. Good ginger flavour.- Rondo 224 curry ($10.00 USD) - chili onion pickles were tasty. Curry was excellent.- Rondo premium bento box ($16.00 USD)- Yuzu sauce soft serve ($5.00 USD) - added shiratama ($1.50 USD), plain jane. Soft serve itself was fantastic and the yuzu sauce was legit.- Black sesame burnt Basque cheesecake ($7.00 USD) - not too sweet but I wanted more black sesame flavour. - Hoji-cha tiramisu ($7.00 USD) - the roasted tea flavour really shined through. Delicious.Debit/credit/Apple pay only. Decent izakaya fare.

Great place to eat for happy hour! Staff are friendly and there's free parking underground (make sure you park in the spot that specifies Rondo). Groups larger than 6 might have trouble finding a table quickly, but reservations are suggested. Reservations require a deposit, but they refund it.The Ten-Bero set is a great deal! I would definitely take advantage of it. Food is great and easy to share with a group.I would come again!

Rondo is a gem nestled in Cap Hill, offering an izakaya experience very reminiscent of bars I visited in Japan years ago. I love the ambiance and variety of food and drink options... Slightly biased here because I'm a huge fan of their sister restaurant Tamari Bar, which has a very similar atmosphere and menu offerings. The Rainbow Uni Shooters are a must-try burst of umami, creamy butteriness in a single bite. I usually feel indifferent towards the taste of uni, but I would definitely get these shooters again. Also decided to try the Uni Seafood Creamy Udon. It's exactly what it sounds like: a comforting bowl of udon noodles bathed in a creamy white sauce and topped with uni. Adding this to my list of uni dishes I would order again. The Aburi Salmon Battera Sushi was another flavorful bite. The seared salmon melts in your mouth and the smoky flavor compliments well with the rice. For drinks (forgot to take a picture), my friend and I ordered a matcha gin & tonic and a fruity cocktail I'm forgetting the name of. I thought both were pretty good.Overall, solid food and drink flavors and presentation, inviting ambiance, and attentive service!
