Everything here was delicious! My husband and I came here during restaurant week and we loved every single thing we had. Our waitress mentioned that the portions were small and recommended for us to get an appetizer/maki. We did as she recommended and we got the seared salmon roll. It was delicious but we didn't think we needed it, the amount of food that came with the restaurant week menu was sufficient. We had the following:Serrano chili maki - delicious and just the right amount of spicy.Wagyu beef dumplings - melt in your mouth delicious. We had 2 other appetizers but I can't remember their names. One of them was a white fish that was so good, perfectly seasoned and melted right in your mouth. For our entrees, he had the wagyu steak and I had the black cod. In my eyes, the cod was the clear winner. Probably the best cod I've ever had in my life. For dessert we had a lava cake with ice cream and chocolate pearls, also delicious. For drinks I had the Roka Fashioned, so so so so good! My husband had a mezcal drink that was delicious. Overall, highly recommend this restaurant. The food, drinks and service were top notch!

Celebration dinner, had the Omaske menu. Overall great tastes, flavors across the items. We had a couple of McCallan drinks which were nice (though the first one we ordered tasted terrible, and they were nice enough to replace).Service was attentive, the Ambiance is nice. Overall a good experience for Japanese food in Chicago.

Had such a lovely birthday here! The staff wrote a sweet card and a complimentary dessert. The genmaicha tea with toasted rice is my new favorite, I will be purchasing some to drink at home! Very light and flavorful with the toasted rice. The tuna flight and prime skirt steak were the best! We tried to save a little money by choosing our options vs omakase but the regular maki sushi rolls are just ok, I'd recommend biting the bullet if you can and just going for more nigiri flights, omakase, or steaks. The prime skirt steak melted in our mouthed and it was so flavorful and juicy. Easily top 2 steak I've ever had.Fatty tuna nigiri is always so good and can't go wrong.Have to come back and try the omakase!

went here with a group of friends, and we ordered the sushi and sashimi special, which was brought out beautifully presented in a family style format. I felt comfortable with consuming raw fish because the fish was fresh as could be and presented on ice. The conversation among our group was easy, and the server was very friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this place for an adventurous group dinner with friends!

Omakase is the way to go. Husband and I did the Decadent Omakase, and we both loved it! Some items were on the menu, and some were just created by the chef. This was such a fun experience! The service was great, both the waitress and the man that changed out the plates were excellent! The decor is a modern vibe, and there's an open kitchen with a charcoal fire.First course was Prime Beef Tataki, Toro Tartare, and Tempura Oysters. The first two are on the menu, and the third is a new creation. My favorite was definitely the toro, but the other two were great too. Everything was devoured happily.Second course was nigiri and sashimi. It was a mix of tuna, toro, and king salmon. Everything was fresh and delicious. Third course was sea bass with cherries, charcoal grilled broccoli rabe, and tempura lobster. This surprised us, but the broccoli rabe was spectacular. If you did this to every vegetable, no child would ever say they hated vegetables. I love lobster, especially tempura is my weakness, but that broccoli rabe was the star of this course. It's not on the menu, and it definitely should be. Tempura lobster was delicious, and the sea bass was good too.Fourth course was Mishima American Wagyu Sirloin (6oz), Bone Marrow, Truffle Aioli, Japanese Mushroom Rice Hot Pot with Black Truffle. The sirloin had the wonderful charcoal flavor, and that was scrumptious. The bone marrow toppings made it so good, but I have no idea what crack they put on it. The truffle aioli was a nice complement to it. The rice pot looks small, but it's all a trick. It's like the Harry Potter trick where you reach into a bag and can pull out a house. There's an abundance of mushroom rice, and this put us over the top. The rice was nice and very filling. Fifth and final course was a dessert platter. Molten Chocolate Cake with Nuts, Creme Puff with Matcha Cream, Sorbets, and Assorted Fruit. I absolutely loved the chocolate cake, because it was perfectly balanced. It's not too sweet, but wonderful chocolate flavor, and the nuts hidden on the bottom added the perfect texture. (I'm definitely stealing that idea when I make molten cake at home.) Cream puff was interesting, and I liked the matcha filling. The pastry could have been a tad bit softer, but I'm just being picky. The sorbets were both fantastic, especially as a palate cleanser. My favorite fruit was the dragon fruit. Very wonderful way to end the meal. This place is amazing. You should definitely do the omakase. Highly, highly recommend.

What a wonderful place to celebrate a birthday! The food was amazing and the presentation was fantastic. We had lovely service, and the bus boys were quick. The restaurant itself is nice, big and clean. Highly recommend their crispy rice, sushi, toro Sashimi and beef and kimchi dumplings.

I had a mixed experience with restaurant week. The meal started with three appetizers: dumplings, Hamachi Serrano roll, and Poached Garlic Ponzu. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the Hamachi Serrano roll as it tasted like a basic roll from the grocery store. I was also disappointed by the lack of spice that I was expecting. Moving on to the main dish, I ordered the wagyu sirloin with bone marrow. I must say, I was delighted with the tender sirloin and the incredible flavor of the bone marrow. It was unlike any other bone marrow dish I have tried before. However, it was slightly on the salty side. Nevertheless, when I combined it with the sirloin, the flavors melded together perfectly and balanced out the saltiness. My friend opted for the cod and found it to be just okay. There was nothing particularly different from homemade cod, except for the presentation. I did enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant and the exceptional service provided by our waitress. She was incredibly helpful and even prepared a bite of steak with bone marrow on top for me. I would rate both the ambiance and the waitress as 5/5.In conclusion, while I may not return for the sushi, I would definitely consider ordering the wagyu sirloin with bone marrow again.

My companion and I were in Chicago for a work trip and one of my colleagues suggested Roka Akor. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable, and we were seated right away.We ordered the crispy rice and spicy tuna, steamed edamame, sea scallops to start. The crispy rice and spicy tuna was very delicious. The sea scallops were sweet and fresh and edamame was well steamed and salted. Moving onto the Maki rolls we trusted our waiter and ordered the Hamachi Serrano chili, dynamite scallop and crispy prawn and chirashi rolls. All three were very good and I'm not sure if you could go wrong with any of the roles. My personal favorite was the dynamite scallop roll, followed by the Hamachi Serrano. The spice was well balanced with the sweetness of the seafood and all of the food had wonderful flavors.

We came here for the restaurant week menu and were so impressed. It was the perfect amount of food for the price and there weren't any misses. The cod was the best fish dish we've had-maybe ever. The waygu filet was so juicy and perfectly flavored and balanced. The sashimi add on was incredible as well!! Everything tasted so fresh and not fishy. The matcha cream puff was done perfectly. I would definitely come here and bring friends. Service was quick and everyone was super attentive. Waters were filled, orders were placed and plates replaced often. I really like the ambiance here too, it's bustling but still isn't overwhelming and doesn't lose its cozy vibe. We'd go back!! We sent our compliments to the chef.

We decided to try their restaurant week. Dessert was probably the best part. The appetizers are okay. Maki rolls felt like it was just wasabi. Dumplings tasted fine but maybe I was expecting more than what tasted like regular pork dumplings. The wagyu sirloin came really rare and chewy. It needed a little more salt.Service was fine but it took a good 10-15 minutes before someone helped us and one guy kept haphazardly chucking plates and utensils on every table. It was a little distracting. The interior is pretty, but I just don't think it's all that great.
