More intimate times to be had at the Mission Inn and Spa... In 2017, the Mission Inn Wine Tasting Room was added to several quaint restaurants and shops that one may indulge in at the Mission Inn and Spa. It began when owners Duane and Kelly of the Mission Inn, purchased a vineyard in Ashland, Oregon (home of the Oregon Shakespheare Festival and a small college town that boasts a fine foodie scene in the Pacific Northwest). Why buy land in Oregon and not California? Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris is why! Of course, California has it's share of Pinot's, but they have a different terrior! I personally, would choose an Oregon Pinot over a California Pinot on most days! Sorry, California, I still love you for the things you can do that Oregon cannot! When we arrived for our one-stop, play-cation, stay-cation, we were pleased the new tasting room was open! We were warmly greeted by John our psuedo sommlier for the day! We received an intimate tasting for two and shared our love of work, travel and most of all things food and wine!An $11 per person tasting of the private estate, educated staff and intimate atmosphere, it's the perfect add on to a Mission Inn and Spa trip. #MissionInnWineTastingRoom#PinotPlaycation#OregoninCalifornia

When I was in college, my friends and I liked to go wine tasting. Not so much for the appreciation of the craft -- but in those "more-time-than-money" days, wine tasting was free... and the checking of ID's non-existent.One summer, we overheard some blowhard describe his cuvée as smooth, with a "kryptonic" finish. For the next few months, we started using "kryptonic" to portray whatever it was we were drinking. Everyone who heard this would nod their heads in agreement. No one ever asked for an explanation. As far as anybody could tell, we really knew our stuff... perhaps even "expertly".Variations of this BS art form will continue for as long as there is wine. So I'm on to you. Please don't randomly characterize any wine in terms of your dog's breath, or prison shower mold, or unicorn urine. And if you compare it to ANY of the 7 Dwarfs, it's going to take everything I've got to not lose my sh*t and flip the table, Real Housewives of New Jersey style. This isn't to say you shouldn't appreciate all of the nuances, but the experience is your own. Drink it as part of a life well lived. What you perceive may not be the same as others. As long as you make your comments more precise than "tastes like grapes," you're a virtuoso. What's objectionable is not only the jargon and made-up fruit aromas, but the teenage laziness and blatant BS.The owners of the Mission Inn, Duane and Kelly Roberts know that the Pacific Northwest is where world class wines are crafted. So they bought a vineyard with Kelly's brother, Doug Irvine -- at the edge of the Rogue Valley in Ashland, OR. They are producing estate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Rosé. The wine is custom made for guests of the amazing, century-old Mission Inn Hotel & Spa in Riverside, CA. You can order it in the restaurants, bars, and also at this private tasting room onsite. Our gentleman host, John proudly served the award-winning Irvine & Roberts Vineyard bottles without a hint of snobbery. The wines? Kryptonic, for sure... "clean and floral on the nose, the palate remaining shady and cool... with a finish that crescendos into a ripe and creamy tide that clings, but doesn't quit". Pro tip: Use this new phrase anywhere, to be considered a bona fide expert...

While it's a bit weird to have a wine tasting room in a hotel, it turns out the owner has a joint venture with some other folks to actually make wine which, as it turns out, isn't at all bad. This room off of the outside cantina restaurant used to be the living quarters of the hotel owner, and before being turned into a tasting room served as the hotel's gym. This curiosity of a place inside the hotel adds just another dimension to the coolness of the Mission Inn. As a bonus, if you buy a bottle there you can enjoy it in one of their restaurants free of corkage. On a final note, the best part of this tasting room wasn't the wine or the ambience, it was John the sommelier, happily pouring and informing with a relish all things trivial about the Inn. He was apparently filling in at the time, so consider yourself lucky if he is there when you drop in, which I do recommend.

Such a fun time!! Nancy was a wealth of knowledge not only about wine but about all sorts of things "Riverside". The architecture and history is fascinating and beautiful. We want to come back to the Mission Inn for a tour. Try a wine tasting of Roberts Irvine wines! Well worth the money and they have a group of other bottled wines at various price points that are worth looking at. We bought the Chardonnay, because it's so delicious, and a.bottle of Zinfandel.

What a hidden surprise! We noticed the sign for wine tasting and decided to stop in. We sampled four vintages of wine from the Irvine & Roberts Vineyard owned by The Mission Inn. The wines were excellent and the experience was very pleasant and enjoyable. The only thing that would have made the experience sublime would have been the addition of a cheese, salami and cracker plate. John the wine sommelier was the highlight of the evening. Knowledgeable, personable and a great conversationalist. A wonderful experience and treasure to discover.

This is a gem in the Mission Inn's hit-or-miss selection of food and drink offerings! We did the tasting flight of three wines-a steal for $12/person! A chardonnay and two very different Pinot Noirs. All were very good and the woman explained them all perfectly and was very knowledgeable about the wines, the vineyard and the tasting notes. We really enjoyed chatting to her and all of the wines were delicious!

This place is finally open again my wife and i have been checking every once in a while and we're so happy they're up and running again. Great selection of unique tequilas the bartender is very knowledgeable so definitely ask for recommendations. The vibe is cozy great for date night or small group of friends and they do offer other cocktails of tequilas not your thing. We tried the naked & famous and the clarified margarita both were excellent!
