I came here with my mom for my birthday dinner and we chose to have the omakase dinner that was offered. It was honestly a fun experience especially for the price! The chef was very kind to us and kept a fun conversation with my mom about sushi and his experience as a sushi chef. He also just so happen to know a sushi chef in our area which was cool! The sushi was honestly amazing! The variety of the 13 courses were unique and so so fresh! Every single sushi piece just melted in my mouth and I just wanted to have more! For it being in the Haven City Market, it still felt very intimate and it was very enjoyable. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Located inside Haven City Market in Rancho Cucamonga is my favorite sushi restaurant - Shokunin. I routinely order their amazing take-out offerings, but I have not dined in and enjoyed their Omokase since BC (Before COVID). For those unsure - Omakase - "Oh-Mah-Kah-Say" | A form of traditional Japanese dining in which the guests entrust the choice of ingredients and presentations of their meal in the hands of the sushi chef.Their intimate dining area offers a respite from the enjoyable bustle of Haven City Market and its many dining experiences. The meal was amazing. Each piece provided a unique taste that enhanced the flavor of the sushi. I will not wait so long to get back again.

Place with small took a little while for me to find because it was my first time at Haven city market. I came for the five year where it was 13 courses for $55 Omakase. I'm coming from Orange County so I didn't realize how far this was and how much traffic there would be. I was about 10 to 15 minutes late, but I called and they said that was fine. The chef prepared all the pieces that I was behind when I got there so I could have them at once as he continued to prep prepare throughout. The quality and flavors were good. The portions were small. I don't know if it was because of the anniversary special and pricing or if that's what their regular portions are like. The size of the fish felt like you were going to all you can eat place where they give you smaller portions. I understand why they do that at all you can eat I can expect it but here I was surprised that it was so small. I've never been to a restaurant. The portion is the small again maybe due to the reduced cost for the anniversary. The service was good. I did not like that. There were fly traps in front of my face at high-level to where I was sitting. I understand the purpose. I understand why they have it as empty as it was I shouldn't have been sat in front of very appetizing. I might go again if I'm ever in the area to see if that really is the portion size but this is way too far of a drive for me to drive close to 50 miles. I'm glad I experienced it though. I try a bunch of other places inside the market and this was the best.

Such a unexperienced! The food was delicious, the service was wonderful, and they were so helpful with all of our questions. It's a really cool private restaurant with Omakasa style eating you get to order from a couple menus and they give you your own sushi chef who prepares for you either a tasting or 13 course tasting. Definitely a fun experience will be back!

I got the premium omakase course and I would say that if it was based on taste alone, the meal would easily get 5 stars. Each piece was given its full attention and I appreciated all the various flavors that were imparted in unique ways from aging to smoking. However, unfortunately due to the restaurant being confined in a food court, the atmosphere takes a serious hit. While the little cubby itself is cozy and intimate, it's hard not to notice the blaring music and foot traffic happening outside. I wish there was a little more separation from Haven City Market. Also the service I hoped would be more interactive. The sushi chef only really meekly announced the ingredients and rarely interacted with us hungry eaters. Maybe it's just me, but I think half the fun of good omakase is the performance, interaction, and connection you make with who's making the food in front of you.

This hidden gem inside a bustling food mall took me by surprise. It offers an authentic, traditional dining method with limited seating (maybe 15 chairs? - reservations recommended). While the front window serves hand rolls and more "American-style" sushi rolls to-go ONLY, the inside seating is dedicated to the personalized omakase experience (chef's choice tasting menu). Having enjoyed several omakase style meals, even in Japan, this spot stands out as one of my favorites.Food (5/5): I chose the Premium 13-course Omakase, which delivered exceptional presentation, complex flavors, and skillful service for just $80 per person. Highlights included bluefin otoro with fresh wasabi, salmon belly with lemon pepper/miso, smoked albacore topped with chili, Japanese scallop, and seared escolar with truffle and garlic chip. Service (5/5): Our omakase dinner was carefully created by John, with a great personality and even greater deliverance with his flavorful craft, we were left extremely satisfied and impressed with this celebratory meal. (Anniversary date night!)Ambiance (5/5): Some people may be confused or frustrated with their restaurant setup/location, but my takeaway was that it really built positively on the experience. A (mostly) private, delicious dinner in this traditionally themed tiny restaurant tucked away in the middle of a bustling food mall keeps the energy high but the atmosphere personable. You just need to understand this style of restaurant and let them handle the rest.

Great sushi spot located inside Haven City Market. I know Haven City Market has a lot of great food options, but I didn't know what to expect from a sushi place inside. They have dine-in and take-out options. The dine-in option includes a la carte nigiri and sashimi options plus their omakase. The rolls are take out only. They do have other sets like the nigiri set I ordered and omakase bento boxes. I'm not sure what the difference is between everything. The inside looks like a cute little bar area, but I opted for the take-out option since rolls were take-out only. The server was good about explaining everything. You can obviously eat the take-out around Haven City Market. Like I mentioned earlier, I ordered a nigiri set and also a roll. The roll was pretty good, but I was really surprised by how good the nigiri set was for take-out sushi. Now I'm intrigued by their omakase, would definitely want to try. It's pretty pricy so I maybe wouldn't come too often, but it's definitely worth it for how good it is.

I doordashed the Choice Omakase Bento and was so surprised with the quality! Every piece was so fresh and delicious, I loved the extra toppings/sauce on each nigiri and complemented the fish well. Definitely will be ordering again or even stopping by in person.
