Very underwhelming Mexican food. WAY too overpriced for the lack of flavor. The Al pastor in my enchiladas was so flavorless I didn't even notice it with each bite. The decor and layout is aesthetically pleasing and that's about it. I wish I could get a refund because the treatment at this place made me want to cry.My concerns about this establishment:I went for a friend's bday with about 8 people and we were not met with great service. Everyone in my party ordered an entree, beverages, and desserts but we were treated as if we were an inconvenience. We were a generous group of paying customers, and not just there for a place to talk. I noticed two of the white Blonde servers kept giving my party dirty looks. We dined for about 2.5 hours and a random server came to our table and told us that we needed to leave. This wouldn't have been an issue if we were told prior to dining that there was a cap. It was awkward because half of the party had just ordered drinks. If they wanted us to leave for the next reservation they should have politely requested that we wrap up our dinner so they could accommodate the next party. On top of that we had to wait about 30 minutes for the check AFTER they asked us to leave. Everyone in my party was a person of color and it just felt very discriminatory and uncomfortable. No one was disrespectful, no one was obnoxious, or gave any reason for the poor treatment. I have never felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant before. I'm very disappointed with this experience and I would not recommend this restaurant.

Had heard great things about the restaurant from coworkers recently, so went with some friends Saturday evening for dinner. The night was busy, so we expected a wait time. After our wait, got seated and tried several of their drinks (aqua frescas and a paloma). We enjoyed their drinks! Food wise - we ordered their salsa tray along with an order of the guacamole. It was good, but would definitely just stick with the guacamole. Also ordered their tortilla soup, chile relleno, and their mole enchiladas. The chile relleno was different since it wasn't breaded with the egg and fried and then simmer in a tomatoes sauce. It's something different, and the mole enchiladas were good. The service was appreciated as our server made sure things were to our liking and accommodate our request for a table last minute. Ambiance was nice with the music and the crowd. Definitely a nice treat for a Saturday night outing w friends!

Well, this was my second and last time eating here. I always like to give restaurants a second chance. The wait staff are very friendly, but not attentive. It took a wait staff 15 minutes to acknowledge us and bring water and the restaurant had about a 5% occupancy.I can live with this if the food was tasty, it's not. The salsa sampler had two very bad tasting salsas, one with soy sauce and had no business on a Mexican menu, even a fusion one and our meals were just ok and we left over half our food.I had such high hopes for this place because I want Claremont to thrive. It's a swanky beautiful place but you need to have an honest taste testing of your food and if you want to survive, change, and call your Tia for some recipes.

My 8 year old son and I were looking for a new restaurant to try when we stumbled upon this beautiful establishment. My son told me the restaurant passed the rizz check. The customer service was excellent our waitress was very pleasant. I ordered a flight of margaritas the bartender made it with love, I rate the drinks a 10/10. We shared some carnitas nacho the flavor will tap across your tastebuds! I rate this a 12/10!!

Great place for tacos and margs! I tried the steak and carnitas tacos, both were great, but I preferred the carnitas. The margarita was delicious (and strong). The vibe was great, and with a football game playing on the TVs, it made for a lively atmosphere. I like the way the place is decorated as well! Almost feels like you're really transported to Mexico City.

Me and my wife's experience at La Popular overall was pretty enjoyable. To start, the service. The service overall was amazing and we were helped pretty quickly after we entered the building. Our waitress let us take any open seat we wanted and was very attentive. The ambiance and the environment of the restaurant is very approachable and it is also very aesthetically pleasing visually. Based on the mixed reviews we weren't 100% sure what to expect with the quality of the food for the price. Me and my wife both thought the meat was a little dry and slightly overcooked, however, the flavor of the tacos overall was pretty good. Despite all of this we would not return due to it being too expensive for the quality of the food. It was not worth it.

This place was extremely busy when I showed up. Great thing we had a reservation. And even then we had to wait a little. But it's ok, we relaxed at the bar before we were taken to our table outside at the patio. We were a table of 9, and our waiter who was covering the waitress seemed slightly overwhelmed with all the drink orders. Seemed frazzled. But I started off with the oxacan jellyfish. Presentation was pretty with the smoke bubble on top. The drink itself tasted good. Reminded me of a tropical drink i would get on an island relaxing on the beach. Anything rum based is usually pretty good for me. They said the tacos came 4 to an order. When it eventually arrived there was only 3. So that wasent cool, because they said there would be 4 tacos on that plate. Kind of a bummer. I ordered their ahi tuna tostada. Comes on 2 really small tostadas. But the tuna was fresh. And the flavors were amazing. Colors were vibrant and it was really good. We also ordered their chip and salsa. Comes with 4 different salsas. Even for me, the really spicy one wasent too spicy at all. Had a nice kick to it but for those who like it hot, you'll be solely disappointed. Each salsa had a unique taste to it so that was really nice. Next drink was the matcha one. Loved the matcha cream on top. Presentation was very nice. And again a rum based drink, it was an interesting drink (in a good way). Finished our meal with their mini churros. Warm, crunchy, yet soft on the inside. The warm chocolate dip was really good too. The atmosphere here is nice. Inside it's dark and loud. Sitting outside was beautiful with the fire and a little less noisy. Minis 1 star for giving us only 3 tacos when they said it would be 4. But besides that everything tasted good. The drinks were excellent. Its a very nice place for a date night or just hanging out with some friends.

The short of the matter is that La Popular is my idea of a cocktails and nosh jumping off point... Good music, good drinks, good vibes, upbeat staff, open and inviting centric bar. Stop there and go have dinner somewhere else. The entrées left much to be desired. At a "Mexican" concept like this, you expect (hope at least) the food to be good - epecially when it's on the pricier end of the spectrum. I guess they left the flavors and classic Mexican techniques behind when they moved north of the border.Case in point, my NY Steak was served with a chile relleno. The steak was very tender, perfect temperature and delicious, but don't expect the entire strip. You're only gonna get a few slices. Then there's the chile relleno. Relleno means stuffed, as you probably know, with cheese and sometimes meat. Here someone decided it would be a good idea to stuff diced carrots in there!? Wtf? Would you put diced carrots in oysters Rockefeller or lasagna? Maybe for some weird vegan culinary experiment. They have no place in a chile relleno. Can I get an Amen?!
