Fishbone Seafood - Menifee

We had our first visit to Fishbone seafood restaurant on Valentine's Day, and I could not have been more delighted. The food was delicious. I had a combo plate with oysters, tilapia, and shrimp with yams and greens and cornbread .My husband enjoyed grilled salmon with bell peppers, cornbread, mac & cheese, and greens. Every thing was delicious and we had so much food we had to take leftovers home. Our server told us that the place had been open for the past two years and I was shocked because I don't know how this gem missed me, but I can tell you I will be a regular patron from here on out..

I've seen this place for a few years but didn't know what it actually was, and when I learned it was a fish fry place I was eager to give them a try because I love this kind of food, and usually only get it when I happen to be in Hemet and passing by The Fish Hut. Sadly, my first time dining here couldn't have gone much worse. If it had been good, I'd be eating here regularly. It was about two or three months ago, and apologies that I'm just getting around to review it. The one good thing (at least for me) is that I ended up discovering Luna Grill next door, and now I eat there a couple of times a month. In a nutshell, the problem was the food, and I realize that one visit may not be truly representative of their product. But let's get into the details:It was a lot of money. I spent almost $80 on that visit for my family and I didn't get a whole lot of value for it. I got some combos and tried a lot of different things: fish, shrimp, fries, hush puppies, macaroni, and rolls. It's bad when the rolls are the highlight. It was a long wait, but I sort of expected that. I did make sure to emphasize that I wanted the fries to be made fresh to go and made last because I had to drive it home and wanted them to still be hot. I do this all the time at Dave's Hot Chicken, whose fries are very similar but is actually even farther from my home, and they're always good as long as I hurry. The problems: --This fish (iirc the sole) was paper thin and badly overcooked. I also got some snapper and it was a little better. Fish is supposed to be flaky and moist, but this fish was crunchy and dry. I've never had it like that before- it was almost inedible but for how much money I paid for it. I don't recall the shrimp being too bad. --The mac was just okay but nothing special and a little dried out. I might have been willing to get that again. The fries (I got two orders as sides, making it a large part of my combos) were not freshly made per my request. Or if they were, they made them fresh but then they sat for a long time while the fish was still cooking. Thus, by the time I got home they were cold, limp, and no kidding went straight into the garbage. --Finally, the hush puppies were so burnt to a crisp that you could literally break a tooth trying to bite into one. I would literally be up on battery charges if I threw one at somebody- like a literal rock. That to me just said it all, because no responsible person could look at that and serve it to someone. This isn't Taco Bell where it's expected they don't give a shit.Overall, it wasn't good and mos def not worth half of the $80 paid. Alas, I didn't want to give up on them entirely based on one failure. Perhaps it was just a bad day or a new cook- who knows? Rather than leaving them a bad review straight away, I decided to call them near the end of the business day and let them know how we felt about the food. Give them a chance, and if they believe in their product and that this is an isolated incident, then they may want to work something out and get me back into their restaurant as a new customer who may become a regular patron. At the minimum give me some future credit for some of the items that we were unhappy with. To my lights, that would be smart. Gets me back inside, and I'd be obliged to order more food along with whatever they comped. The call unfortunately didn't go that way. I asked for the manager and explained to her that it was my first visit, that I placed a large order, and I wanted to give her some direct feedback. I told her what I just told you, but in a nice and non-confrontational way. Her reply to what I said was to thank me for letting her know, and sorry that my first experience wasn't what I expected. Well okay, then I guess it's also going to be my last experience there as well and I now know not to waste any more money here. I'll have to keep going to Hemet for my soul food fix. My recommendation to any reader who gets this far is buyer beware because they probably won't make things right if you are dissatisfied. They must be doing pretty good if they can afford to do business that way.

Mac and cheese was missing cheese and the mac was soggy. Rice and beans had no flavor and the rice was hardThe oysters and the shrimp were missing batter and soggy and the filet of sole was soggy. The catfish filet was fried good and seasoned right but it tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. the fries were soggy and cold the okra was salty. The customer service was awesome but the food was a big no. Waited over 30 minutes which is no big deal but the food should of at least came out hot and fresh. Won't ever come back, gotta be honest.

Delicious food. Excellent quick service. Nice Clean restaurant. Plenty of self service sauce options on site. My only regret is that I was too full for dessert! Well worth your coins. I'll be back!

This place is a big disappointment when comes to southern style food. I don't know who thought they could cook in a restaurant, but this is not it. It's sad because when I heard it was opening here in our area, I was excited, expecting good quality tasting dishes. But that wasn't the case . I was even giving them the chance to improve and stopped by with hopes of having a good dish. But I'm still hoping on going there with hopes not to be disappointed.

I ordered Fishbone a few more times and felt compared to share another update. Initially, I wasn't a big fan of the mac n cheese. It wasn't much on my first handful of orders. One day while in the area, I managed to get there and order right as the doors opened. I ordered the Mac to see how the first batch of the day was=and it didn't disappoint. However, that was still the first out of many experiences there so I didn't wanna share was a rare situation for me.Well, today which is a Sunday, near closing, I decided to order it as a side again to go with my fish and I'm hoping this is their new standard because it was absolutely amazing. Very reminiscent of the Mac from Annie's Soul Delicious in LA. I ate it right up, wasn't no time for a pic. This was very exciting to share.

NYE I ordered catering from Fishbone and I was very pleased with everything. When I came to pick it up at the time I gave them everything was ready. They far exceeded my expectations and they are now for sure my go to place for catering. Everything was delicious, the portions were perfect and the leftovers were even better the next day.

I'm not a seafood person but this fish was the best fish I've ever had in my life. The sides were also really good as well.

Good food and a fair price I've been there several times now and it's consistently good

Got the cajun catfish, it was delicious.Very very disappointed in the redbeans & rice and collard greens. No flavor at all.....Aj's fish market or sharons creole restaurant collard greens puts this place to shame.
