El Fogon is a Mexican restaurant in Riverside opened by Enrique Nava and inspired by grandmother who created homemade meals with a fogon (fire pit). It's located in a plaza with both indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered the super fries ($14.50) with al pastor and the supreme burrito ($12.50) with carne asada. The fries tasted a little stale to us like it had been sitting there for a while. It was corroborated by the slightly hardened cheese. The al pastor meat was also just okay and a little bland. For the burrito, there was some meat but a lot more rice and some bites were only rice which wasn't pleasant. For both of the dishes we got without beans which was a good idea because it would've been more filler. They have a lot of options on their menu and we didn't know what the differences were. It would've been very helpful if they listed the ingredients in each so we knew what was in each (for example: house burrito vs supreme burrito vs fogon burrito vs brc burrito vs emily burrito vs loco burrito vs monster burrito). The portions are big but the flavors were unfortunately lacking. The tables were also unclean and took a while to be cleaned.

I see ads for this place all the time on Instagram. They advertise the huge burritos. I've come here several times now and haven't found a single thing that really has me wanting to go back. It's just not my spot, ya know. The line is always long, and it's probably because of the huge burrito ads because that's all anyone tells me about while I wait in line lol. There is seating, but they're slow to clean the tables so every clean table is often always taken. Not something I look forward to.

The slogan of serving massive burritos is not just messaging. The Fogon Burrito was not only the length of my plate, but is the best lunch burrito that I have ever tried. Come hungry or ready to share. The salsa bar had a fantastic habanero salsa if you like a spicy sauce to add to your burrito. El Fogon will be my go to stop for quality Mexican food. The restaurant was packed inside, and many customers were eating outside on the sidewalk- patio. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were served very quickly. Definitely coming back!

looove this place!! everything is really flavorful and affordable especially considering the portion sizes. the tacos were a bit more pricy than other items on their menu, but it was pretty good. the fries were nice and crispy, with a lot of toppings on it. i thoroughly enjoyed the burritos as well and the condiments that come with everything pairs nicely! the tortilla on the burrito was nicely made.i'm exicted to come back and try other things on their menu. it does get busy on weekends around peak lunch time but it's not horrible. would recommend!

I have returned to this resturant on two more occasions to be able and see if I gave them a just review and I have mixed feedback. One, I was charged for the wrong burrito twice. The first time I didn't realize that I was charged for the wrong burrito, but the second time I made sure to tell the cashier which burrito I wanted but still I was charged for the house burrito although I did not get guacamole or want the burrito that included avocado. The second time I decided to sit in and eat and got a Carne asada burrito. Food came out hot and fresh and brought directly to my table. The rice and beans where considerably better this time. Night and day better. It was a bit heavy on the sour creme and lettus and a bit skimpy on the beef. Also the beef was very overdone, it was mostly dry and like beef Jerry. The flavor was still good. The third time I ordered food I got my burrito to go and got carnitas. That was a great meat choice. It was plentiful and juicy and delicious. The burrito was really good and it had little lettus or sour cream, it consisted of more rice beans and meat. Again their sauces here are amazing and the sauce bar is great and fresh. This time around however my food seemed to be skipped all together. A friend and I ordered food and waited for maybe 20 minuets and noticed orders that came in after us were beginning to be called and ours was skipped. We went up and found that his dish was made and had been sitting there but was not called. My burrito, however, was not made and the kitchen had to make it then. I think that added to the size and quality of my dish as a make up for the wait.

People are coming in and out of this place. That's how you know it's delicious! The burritos really do look like what you see on Instagram. My husband had a whole half of his burrito left for the next day lol!At night, be alert because it is in a sketchy part of riverside so just be aware of your surroundings, nothing crazy.

A friend recommended this place for some good burritos. It lived up to the hype. Located in a shopping plaza off Watkins and W Blaine. Unassuming strip of eateries but walking through the door it seemed to magically transform and modernize. All the tables were full and a line at the register.. good sign! Our burritos were huge! Oh yes salsa.. there's a salsa bar with mild pico blend, med tomatillo and toasty red hot with a sort of spicy mustard finish. Try them all to see what combination you like. The Chile relleno and chilaquiles burritos were flavor packed and super satisfying that did not disappointment. Service was friendly and inviting. Keeping up with the line that kept consistently forming during our visit. Really great place we'd come back in a heartbeat.
