It's winter here which means everyone will forget how to drive in the rain and the gas bill will inevitably go up. In weather that most Californians can't stand but the rest of the world would envy, this tofu house is a cozy and hearty retreat from the biting cold. For those looking for solace from the outside and for a hot meal, you'll easily find it here. Most food is inherently communal. Good evidence of this is in the plenty of sharable sides and groups of people taking shelter from torrential downpour. However, what I think I value at Chodang the most is a curated atmosphere of oneness. During a lunch break or a supper hour, I come back here endlessly in solo ventures, to enjoy the stew as rain patters on the roof and the nearby tables rumble with hushed conversations. It does sound lonely at first. You'll feel eyes trained on you and without company to break the tension, anxiety can latch on from nowhere. But sit down for a little longer and the food tastes different. The soup is warmer and the mackerel is crispier. The rain gets louder and your senses are heightened by the lack of distraction. You're there solely to serve yourself, to satisfy your own needs without help from anyone else. Most people interpret the drifters in Edward Hopper's Nighthawks to be alone but really, it's about taking care of you first and doing it around people who want to care of themselves too.So you, dear reader(yes YOU, who didn't go on Yelp to get a lecture), I'm inviting you to enjoy a meal by yourself more often. Eat and think about your life, your loved ones, the bygone past, the near future. Enjoy being lonesome and enjoy it alongside people who feel the same joy, the same agony, the same peace and chaos as you do. Love food, not as fuel but as grounding for the present. And if you don't know where to begin, start here.

One of comfort food to have in cold winter season because tofu casserole comes out bubbling in a hot pot, but it's still nice all year round too.Nice cozy restaurant in a huge shopping center in chino hills. The service was excellent and food was delicious. Will be coming more often now !!!

I was craving some tofu soup and Korean BBQ and wanted to try this place nearby. It is located in a plaza with other stores and plenty of parking. It was not too packed or busy and had plenty of seating inside. It was also not too loud, which was great for families and kids. For food, I got the beef tofu soup and some bulgogi. There were side dishes served first which were fish and the small side dishes that was nice. The tofu soup was so warm and filling and was paired nicely with the bulgogi. Bulgogi was sweet and savory which was delicious! I would come here again!

Went here today to pick up a Togo order for my dad and got the intestine soon tofu. The taste of the intestine was soft and well cleaned which a lot of other places don't do right and they did wonderfully. The service was quick and the staff were super nice even through the phone.

FIRST visit:Decent dinner to-go included great banchans* FARES feasted on: === Galbi === Soondubu mild === Dolsot bibimbap* FRIENDLY service: N/A* FRESH air seating outside? N/A* FAIR pricing: Decent* FEE processing: None. Accepts credit cards* FREE parking: Yes, large plaza lot* FYI: We ordered for in-home meal: the food was authentic and tasty, the pickup of multiple dishes was made easier pre-packed in cardboard box, and parking was a breeze. The only downside were the kalbi portion was quite small (for $32) and I couldn't tell it was dolsot (vs. regular) b/c it barely had any of that crispy-slight-char to the rice base. But food was very tasty, hence still 4 stars! plus I love supporting small, local businesses.FOUR stars ****

The kalbi was cold, the fish could be better if extra crispy, appetizers were ok and sondooboo was lacking flavor. The rib soup was flavorful but not enough noodles or veggies. The service was ok considering she was the only one working in the front. The ambiance was clean. I was hoping we would be convinced to come back.

We're so glad we decided to try this place--everything was outstanding! Came with the family and ordered four Soondubu (tofu soups), bulgogi, and a pork cutlet. The generous portions of banchan caught us by surprise, and we quickly realized we might have ordered more than we could handle. The banchan arrived promptly, followed by the bulgogi on a sizzling hot plate and the crispy pork cutlet. The soups came out last, still bubbling in their stone pots. Every dish was absolutely delicious, service was great, and Chodang has earned a spot on my list of favorite local restaurants. My family and I look forward to coming back.
