I was STARVING after the gym and this was the closest place still open. And thankfully it was a good choice. I'm a sucker for good customer service and this place absolutely delivered with that. Thank you Vanessa! I got the carne asada quesadilla. Flavor.... DELICIOUS! Not that I was expecting anything less but I was surprised with how flavorful this quesadilla was!!! The only reason I did not give it five stars is because half of the quesadilla didn't have meat lol. But the half that did, was pretty packed. However, I ended up just discarding the extra tortilla with cheese. Price is reasonable. $11 which is pretty comparable to others in the area.

What more do you need to say about Alberto's? It has sired countless offspring: all those Berto's, Jilberto's, etc. And along with Castaneda's, it's the last of the title bearers for a certain type of Mexican food. According to the great brown nebbish, Gustavo Arellano, whom you may recognize from his book Taco U.S.A. or his column Ask A Mexican, the origin of Alberto's happened in San Diego. Down in the dago, during the great epoch of the CalMex dive, Alberto's was born. According to Arellano, staff members branched out and created a family tree of greasy hard shells, orange cheese and carne asada. A great legacy of California Mexican fast food to rival that of the Michelin starred restaurants born out of Lyon, France. But with all the more "authentic" TQs, this disgustingly satisfying genre of Mexican food is on life support. Pretty soon, the carne asada fry will only be found at Gastropubs and we'll be expected to cough up $40 for the insult. Much like the Jewish deli, we need a call to arms (or bellies) to prop up the hard-shell taco with shredded iceberg lettuce. I must disclose that I have been a dilettante in this battle to save such places. It's been more than a decade since I've visited an Alberto's. Cognitive dissonance crept up as I beheld the salsa bar. They actually have a proper salsa bar. There's one with fire roasted tomatoes, another chile de arbol, still another tomatillo verde, and even still another pepino-aguacate-crema. They have two impressive escabeches. One is with jalapenos, arboles, and carrots; the other, red onions and habaneros. So what's the problem? The problem is that this one is beginning to resemble the Michoacan taqueria, all the while losing its SoCal identity. But they still have carne asada fries. And those carne asada fries are served sour cream. The beef is tender, but has zero trace of sear on it. You dig into the heap, reassured that this vestige of an older California will live on.

The best carne asada burritos and carne asada fries around. The rest of the food is great too but those stand out. Service is always friendly from either the drive through or eating in. The young who runs the cash register is always kind and welcoming.

We picked up food to go everything was delicious and huge portions! I got a chicken quesadilla it was really good. It's large it makes 2 meals for me. my daughter and her boyfriend got a burrito and chile relleno- they love this place! It's a bit more salt than I'd prefer but not a problem. I can't eat here every day for that reason. We also got flan. Old fashion style is how I'd describe it and delicious-a real treat! So, definitely recommended! Thumbs up!

LUCKY ME!! The food was good. The lady at the register was super nice. The restaurant was clean. A week ago passing by during work came in for a late lunch. While waiting for our food being made. I was reading the Yelp reviews showing 2 stars on this place. Our food took a little while and came out hot and fresh never got sick over night. The drive-thru was busy. You guys did good job. I will be back. Keep it up!!

I knew something was wrong when my carne asada plate came out within 5 minutes from when I ordered. It's almost like my plate was pre- packaged. The carne asada was awful. Meat was dry and flavorless. It was cold. Guacamole was tasteless and watery. Beans were okay. So-so. Paid $13 for a plate that I didn't finish. Tossed it out. Terrible meal. I'll stick with Miguel's Jr. 110% times better.
