Rips Bar

Went to Rips tonight for the first time. They had a comedy set hosted by Sean Smith from 7:00-9:00. Had a blast! It is a gritty place with a cool edge. Unique place for Phoenix and perfect for groups or just looking to have a drink and hang out. The DJ started after the comedy show and was impressive. Highly recommend this place.

Came to Rips as part of a birthday celebration. Rip's was chosen by the person who's birthday it was because it is one of their favorite bars, and it was karaoke night. Aside from the people there for the birthday, not many additional people were in the bar. The guy running karaoke said that while he doesn't have a book, he has hundreds of thousands of songs. He has yet to have someone request a song he doesn't have. He wiped down the microphone in-between each singer. Drinks were very reasonably priced. Full bar along with beer and cider on tap. Only one bartender was working the night I was there. She was busy. She remained calm, cool, collected, and still managed to be engaging.

Put me in a new city on a weekend night and I will find dive bar karaoke.I made it a point to stop by Rips on my last night in Phoenix after a long work week, and lucked into it being karaoke night. The punk rock vibe, super friendly staff, and cheap drinks keep the place packed with regulars and newcomers alike; a full calendar of events throughout the week draw a diverse crowd.

Great bar and drink prices are low. Lots of variety from punk bands to karaoke and all vinyl DJ's. Wonderful staff, and even better owner. A really inviting environment, especially for those who go alone. Once you're there, you have friends.

Such a great dive bar! This place is a absolute stopif you are in the area. Cheap drinks.

Mello neighborhood bar under a uniquely styled roof next to the O'Reilly's on 16th St north of Thomas. Enter via the door on 16th St to a small foyer through which is the wrap around bar in the main room. The ATM is on the right just as you enter. There is one pool table tucked in on the right where a friendly game can be found. On the left are some tables, a couple of couches and local art for sale displayed on the walls. The artists are sometimes at large in the evenings.Further in ahead is an elevated stage perfect for small live performances and the regular karaoke crooners. Come a little early and you can get a few songs in, but after 10pm, the cue gets a little long. The rest rooms are down a short hall next to the stage and they are no more funky than those in most bars I've been in.There is little table service, so line up at the corner of the bar or sit on a stool to get the attention of the two bartenders usually on duty. Cash and cards accepted. You may have to give the recipe for any cocktails you prefer as the bartenders are not mixologists.The delight of this establishment is the outside area on the south side of the building. This is also the smoking area. It is open with a low wall separating it from the O'Reilly's parking lot where many patrons park after the parts store closes. There are a couple of picnic tables and some chairs and tables but most people stand. The crowd is young to middle age and friendly. Singles do patronize the place and anything is possible.

Love this local dove bar! Beer always cold and there is always cool local bands playing here.

This has to be one of the coolest little bars I've been to. The female bartender was super great, the male bartender was definitely grumpy/slightly rude. Luckily both of them made great drinks so who cares?? Will definitely be returning.

Fun atmosphere, reasonable prices, nice back patio. Has Goth nights and art shows. Bartenders are friendly and cool.

Service was awful bartender was cross eyed drunk looked like she was under the influence of something other than alcohol.Drinks watered down and not prepared well glassware dirty.No food available probably a good thing considering the cleanliness of staff and the bar. I'm not under the impression the patrons of the bar consume food I believe they are more interested in consuming chemical substances like crystal meth.Rampant drug abuse patrons of bar openly using drugs on patio and bathroom. I was solicited by patrons of bar for drugs and patrons and staff talking about illegal drug use at the bar.Price was cheap and you get what you pay for. Karaoke and bands/ DJ sound and video quality awful. Jukebox sound either to loud or not able to hear it at all.Pool table not level takes money and staff doesn't reimburse lost funds. Video games not maintained takes money as well.Patio not well lit had homeless people begging for drinks.Management non existent.Bar had raw sewage smell. Tables and chairs old worn dirty not maintained.Being at Rips bar was comparable to having watered down poorly prepared drinks in a dark alley homeless camp.
