I used to frequent this place during my grocery run to the nearby Stop&Shop every single weekend. At the time, I'd walk past it, place an order, and pick it up on my way home from the grocery store. I'd always order the lunch combo 3 maki rolls with soup and salad, and it was something around $15 for some pretty tasty sushi.In recent years, I believe ownership has changed and the prices have increased, but the quality of the sushi has gone up a good deal to compensate. The 3 maki roll lunch combo is now $18.95 with miso soup, but the cost is well worth it. And while I don't go here as frequently as I used to, I still make it a point to have at least every month or so. On the outside, Rainbow Sushi looks like an average normal sushi shop. There are a few tables inside and I never see the place too busy. However, I'd say that this is one of the best sushi options in Brookline and even all of Boston. It may not look like much, but the quality of the fish is really good and fresh. I've never had a bad piece of sushi from this place, and everything tastes incredibly flavorful and high quality. On this particular instance, I ordered 4 rolls:Spicy tuna roll: This roll (and all of the spicy rolls) is a bit different from other places - in a very good way. Instead of heavily minced tuna with tempura flakes, Rainbow Sushi uses chunks of red plump tuna with their tempura mix. The result is a nice flavorful, fresh, and tasty roll with really great texture. It isn't a paste like a lot of the other places - instead, you can actually feel and taste the individual gems of fish, and it's my favorite place for the spicy tuna.Salmon avocado roll: The salmon avocado roll is a basic salmon avocado roll, but the salmon is very fresh as well. The rice is also the perfect texture, and the ratio of filling to rice is perfect. No complaints on this one!Spicy salmon roll: Just like the spicy tuna, the spicy salmon roll has large chunks of diced salmon mixed in with their spicy mayo and tempura flakes. It really makes a huge difference in taste and texture, and I love it!Spicy yellowtail roll: I'd say the same thing here as the spicy tuna and spicy salmon, but even more so. The yellowtail chunks in this roll are large and plump. Taking a bite out of one of these is just an incredible feeling, and the flavor really explodes. I'd HIGHLY recommend giving this place a try if you are in the area, and I'd even suggest taking a trip out to Brookline specifically to try this restaurant. This is a mid-priced option with an extremely high quality of sushi. I've reviewed a good number of other sushi restaurants before, and Rainbow Sushi is really outstanding. I love that the quality matches that of the upper-priced restaurants in the area, but the price point and the atmosphere is much more affordable and approachable. We're truly lucky to have this gem in our neighborhood - 5/5!

Updating my review since my last post to reflect my new reality of eating out with dietary restrictions...My partner was diagnosed with Celiac disease (meaning no gluten whatsoever) earlier this year, and since contamination is a huge problem when eating out, we haven't been able to go to restaurants safely anymore. We have a Nima Sensor that he tests his food up to 10 ppm for any traces of gluten and I'm happy to say that Rainbow Sushi has been safe for him the last two times we ordered takeout. They knew the menu well and were able to adjust some of the rolls to make sure they were safe. They also had gluten free soy sauce packets (since regular soy sauce uses wheat as a thickener). Haven't been back to Rainbow recently but looking forward to next time :)

I always go to the barbershop next to this place. On this particular day it was me, my wife and my son. I was in the mood for sushi and we walked by and said, let's stop and chow. We had several types of sushi (maki and tempura) along with ramen noodles. It was delicious! The service was also very good. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. It's a small spot but worth the stop! We will start coming here on haircut days.

The food was incredible and we get sushi from lots of different places often. The rainbow sushi was out of this world and beautiful to look at. The eel avocado melts in your mouth--highly recommend--but my favorite was the spicy tuna, which truly had the freshest taste. The green tea was perfect and the server made sure to refill it before we even asked. The restaurant is cozy with great light and a relaxing ambiance, great for a first date or a relaxing time with friends. This restaurant is outstanding!

Fantastic meal with great service! My wife and I stopped by prior to catching a film at Coolidge and had a great meal. Atmosphere was calm, clean, and comfortable. We started our meal with the shumai, which were delectable, before ordering a selection of sushi rolls. Sushi were well prepared and tasted absolutely fresh and delicious. Service was outstanding, with just the right amount of attention (like refilling our tea without us asking). Definitely would recommend this place and we will 100% come back again.
