Went here last night for dinner with the family!! All I can say is DELICIOUS....Everything was so dang good that I forgot to take photos of everything we got. We ordered the enchiladas which were so yummy. We ordered the taco trio, everyone enjoyed these. But...the best would be the beef and cheese tacos they were out of this world good! Also the oysters were some of the best oysters I've ever had. The octopus was our least favorite thing we had. All of our drinks were very tasty. We loved our server/bartender Eileen!

Horrible service/ nonexistent service. Not sure if it was because we were a party of 6+ so tips were guaranteed, or they're super short staffed, but our waiter NEVER checked up on us the whole 1.5 hours that we were there. After getting seated by the host, we were ignored for 10-15 minutes. Then a guy came by with some free chips. Great! Kindly asked him to get our waitress because we were ready to order. Another 10 minutes go by with no one paying any attention to us. Raised my hand and locked eyes with her, she notioned 1 minute. Cool! Another 5 minutes go by, and the guy comes back with water glasses. Finally!!!!! Water!!! Told him we still haven't met our waiter yet and the kids are super hungry. He said sorry, and after about 5+ minutes, our waiter, with the medium length black hair, finally comes to get our order. She didn't introduce herself, was super casual about the whole thing. Didn't even apologize that she did not come back to us after using the "1 minute" hand gesture with us. Whatever, at least we got our orders in. Then, the waiting game started. Food came out extremely slow. Guess downtown is so busy + tips is guaranteed for big parties, so who cares about retaining customers.

Newly opened restaurant in Encinitas. Tried this spot over labor day weekend. I found it on Instagram and was excited to try a few items I saw on their Instagram page. It was not super busy for a Saturday night. I still made reservations just in case. We were sat inside in the dining room. Served some tostada chips and 3 salsas. The salsas were ok. I ordered the michelada barracuda, a michelada with light beer chamoy and sesame seed rim, garnished with an octopus and shrimp skewer. It was missing the shrimp on the skewer. The waitress didn't realize the drink I ordered and thought it was a different one without shrimp. She brought the shrimp skewer after. My hubs ordered a tequila cocktail and he enjoyed it.We ordered:- Verde aguachile- branzino zarendeado- grilled octopus- churrosThe aguachile came out, but was the wrong one (they brought the black pearl instead of the verde). Once we tried the verde one, it was good. The shrimp was very fresh. The Verde salsa wasn't spicy as traditional Verde salsa would be for aguachile.Branzino was two small fillets. Skin was left on and skin was soggy. Hubs had a bone in his fillet. We saw a whole fried branzino on the restaurants' Instagram, but they said that was a special and they don't have it anymore. Zarendeado sauce was good. Rice was bland and salad looked sad. Overall fish was cooked well. Grilled octopus was tender and flavorful. It was well made and probably best item on the menu.Churros were warm and came with 2 dipping sauces. They were very good. We had higher expectationsfor this spot.

I hate writing bad reviews, but I also hate bad service. I was so excited to eat at Punta Mar because it looked super cute and the food looked good! Unfortunately, the service was not on par with the restaurant. It started when we first got seated around 7:05pm. A server didn't come help us until what felt like 10 minutes. Someone finally came over and took our order. We were sitting in front of the DJ and speaker area and they had turned up the music. My husband and I were dining with our 1.5 year old son so I had asked to move because it was loud for him. Thankfully they were able to move us to the patio area. Because I moved, I told our server to let the other sever know, but I don't think it was communicated because we didn't get our food until around 8:05pm. We waited and waited and saw other people around us get their order. I had asked our server multiple times and had I not said anything..we prob would have waited even longer. Our server did apologize and told us what happened, but nothing was offered for making us wait an hour for the food. I also saw the two guys who I think are the owners walking by checking on the girls tables next to us, but didn't check on us or apologize for what happened. For the food, we ordered the tuna tataki tostadas, black rose aguachile (recommended by our original server), quesabirria tacos, and cheese quesadilla & guac for our son. The tuna tataki was really good. The quesabirria tacos were good, but kinda chewy. My least favorite was the black rose aguachile. The server recommended the black rose over the verde, but I was not a fan. The sauce kinda reminded me of soy sauce. I think I would have liked it if it was the verde. When we finished eating, I had to ask a lady who was dropping off the drinks for another table for the check because our server was no where to be found. She wasn't very friendly and just seemed really busy. It seemed like they understaffed because everyone was doing everything and our server was all over the place. Service was definitely a 1/5.Hope they fix their service because I would go back for the food and drinks if it was better!

Pretty good! Plenty of open spacious seating, friendly service. The least-wacky Michelada (and there are many) is the Clamachela, and it was tasty.. with a saucy sesame rim. I liked it! Solid at $9The Beef and Cheese crust sonora taco street food plate was 4 tasty tacos, very reasonably priced for a sit-down place. If you're not too hungry, it's a full meal.. if you're big-hungry, you'll want more. Fresh, meaty -- loved it.But the salsa game, not so strong, not for San Diego. The servings were really tiny, fresh but unremarkable. Nothing on the table had any heat even on the weakest jalapeño scale. The bottled sauce was extremely salty. I did like the whole corn tortilla chips.I feel like I have to go back and try something seafood at some point, but it should be a day when micheladas will be the theme song. I'll smuggle in some hot salsa.

Mexican cuisine, seafood, and San Diego - you can't beat it! Puntamar is a great new Encinitas spot complete with an inviting atmosphere that transports you beachside in Mexico, and I was excited to try it out. They have a lot of fun cocktail options, including a variety of different takes on micheladas. My group ordered cocktails that were delicious while I opted for a mango michelada, also delicious. I ordered a 1/2 version and they came out with a glass the size of my head (which was obviously the full size), and said it was a mistake on their part and only charged for the 1/2 size. I definitely welcomed this as we all ended up sharing sips of my drink during our meal. We ordered aguachile, a whole branzino, and the birria pizza. Everything was quite tasty, except we were a bit disappointed about the low spice level on the aguachile - definitely missing the chile component. I wonder if you can request it to be on the spicier side...As for the service, I will say it was sub-par. I totally understand that this is a new restaurant trying to find its footing, so I'm definitely taking that into consideration knowing I'll be back in the future. Everyone was very friendly, but it was clear that there was a lack of communication going on. Our server who introduced himself as so seemed to forget about us throughout the night even though we saw him frequently passing us, and we had various different staff members coming to take orders before our server remembered us and came to take our order after it was already put in. Despite this, it took a while for both our food and drinks to come out, and we were also a bit disappointed that all of our courses came out together. We were expecting the aguachile before our mains as this was clearly an appetizer and listed as so on the menu. Given the friendliness of the staff, this didn't take away too much from our experience here, and the food of course was worth it as well. As I said before, I'll be back and am looking forward to trying more items on the menu.

We had a wonderful time at this restaurant! The moment we stepped inside their indoor outdoor space we felt like we had been transported to a little Mexico paradise! The servers were all so friendly and attentive too! We had seen previous review of service issues but we felt welcomed and accommodated! We ordered a round of drinks and of them all, the Michelada Kraken definitely was the stand out drink. As for the entrees, we got the quesabirria, the taco trio, and the Machu Picchu ceviche. The fish taco was light and tasty, and the ceviche had a generous serving of fish. For desert, we got churros, which came out with a sparkler and decorative plate! They were delicious. Overall we had a great time and would come back!

This place is fantastic. I thought I arrived at a restaurant in Acapulco. What a great vibe. The service was top-notch. I loved the homemade picante sauce, and the waitress brought us a to-go tub. But I must come back again. Finally, the food was out of this world.

Arrived at around 4:45/5pm and was seated quickly. Granted, we were the first ones there on a Wednesday! My friends and I were looking for a new spot & I found this one on instagram! I ordered the fish tacos & two margaritas ($5 happy hour? Yes please!). Our waiter was attentive & we all shared several laughs! My friends & I were impressed with the aesthetic and appreciated the playlist! A great place to visit during the week after a long day or for a fun lunch/dinner with friends! Only recommendation I have is better signage for bar vs restaurant.
