Proper Joe Coffeehouse

We have made our own espresso at home for decades using a manual machine & grinder and buying our beans from one source to keep consistency thus finding any shop that can make a basic cappuccino that resembles Italy has been impossible until recently. This establishment should be tried if your looking for an excellent cappuccino, there pastries are ok but not the reason we went there thus the 4 star

Popped in for a handcrafted latte prior to strolling the charming shops of First Street. I was greeted warmly and my hazelnut irish cream latte was just the perfect cup of joe I was looking for, complete with beautiful froth design on the top. Price was similar to any other coffee shop or chain but here, you get the satisfaction of knowing you're supporting a local small business. I will most definitely be back!

Love this coffeehouse. They make true espresso drinks! I had an espresso macchiato and a blueberry scone. Both were perfect. There were so many dogs that came through the shop too I was in heaven haha! You can tell they are very involved in the community; many regulars came by to say hi and the barista (I'm guessing owner as well) sent someone off to donate muffins to a nearby shop. Would definitely return when I'm back in the area.

My husband and I would meet for coffee here. Im not sure if this is still an option but they used to let us sit in the basement. A nice room with comfy couches/chairs. We would be the only ones down there. I would always get the White Mocha latte. It was delicious. Nice cozy place.

Really enjoy this place. Service is always friendly and staff isn't afraid to chat it up a bit. Not your typical coffee snob vibe! Latte and mochas were very well balanced and bold. Love that you can taste the coffee over the cream and chocolate. Can't wait to come back and try more. The sitting area is comfortable, just wish it was a bit bigger.

A cute little gem of a place with a slower place. Comfortable seating with a few baked good options. My latte was delicious.

This cute little unassuming store is quite small on the outside but definitely worth a stop over. There's only one barista to take all orders and make the drinks so be patient. The person that helped was super friendly and didn't crack under pressure even though a line was building and drink orders were piling up. During our wait there's a lot of cool little things to look at and you have a feeling of complete..it will get done when it gets done attitude. They have a glass case of baked goods but the real star of this place are the drinks! The iced coffee and the iced teas are absolutely flavorful and delicious. They are not watered down and put big box coffee shops to shame. There's no comparison between the care and uniqueness of a small local business to a huge conglomerate. Spend the time and give this little coffee house a try!

The coffee was great. Made pretty quickly. And they have many cow milk alternatives! They had some pastries in a case that looked good but I didn't try any.The person working was so friendly! We felt welcomed the whole time. I also appreciate the pride flag on the counter.There is a little bit of seating but it was full when we were there. It seems like a pleasant place to sit in for a while though.

The apple fritter was good, but the macchiato was terrible. Though the milk was foamed well and the amount was pretty spot on, the taste was burnt to the point of undrinkable and I tossed most of mine in the blackberry bushes on the river walk.

Aaron and Angela are so friendly and hospitable. Proper Joe's is definitely the place you want to go to relax and enjoy a real hometown coffee shop experience. Aaron's expertise and passion for coffee is unrivaled and they have perfected some wonderful accoutrements to your coffee palate, including a "to die for" a home-made pumpkin bread! Don't even hesitate to come here, and bring your friends!
